"Buckfast Powersmash" features the melody of the theme song from the children's television series ChuckleVision.

The lyrics to the song "Swashbuckled" make reference to the members of Swashbuckle, another pirate-themed metal band.

The lyric to "Rumpelkombo" is credited to Chris Boltendahl of Grave Digger. Boltendahl used the term to insultingly refer to Alestorm in an interview relating to a fractious joint tour between the two bands. The song was recorded so that Boltendahl would occasionally receive very small royalty payments for the song as a constant reminder of his time with Alestorm.

"The Sunk'n Norwegian" is about a privately owned bar of the same name in River Falls, Wisconsin (so-called because its owners are of Norwegian descent, and the bar itself is literally sunken into the side of a hill). Christopher Bowes was invited to drink there after a show during one of Alestorm's U.S. tours; he liked the bar's atmosphere so much that he wrote a song about it, and even references the bar's motto "IYDKYDG" ("If you don't know, you don't go") in the lyrics.
