I like traditional Norwegian Black Metal up to about '95, plus some of the stuff those folk are doing now, its antecedents (Bathory, Venom, Celtic Frost, etc.), "Viking," and folk metal.
Favorites include Satyricon (especially the demo and 1st two albums) and Ulver (the first three, though all their stuff is great), by far my favorite NBM artists, as well as Darkthrone, early Burzum up to Filosofem, Emperor, Enslaved, all the usual suspects.... Also recently have discovered how much I love Xasthur and Wolves in the Throne Room, and any of a number of the more prominent members of the French scene, and various E. European bands.
For Viking-y/folky stuff I like Ensiferum and Wintersun, Finntroll, early Vintersorg and later Borknagar. I am most fond of stuff sung in the band's mother tongue, whatever that might be, because I think that the sincerity and ear for the language that that produces easily trumps me having any idea what the particular song is saying (it's usually about trolls or Odin in most cases anyway).
Also love the more experimental/abstract end of Doom--Boris, Sunn O))), Pelican, Red Sparowes, Nadja...
