The realm of "brutal death metal" can be a tough conundrum to crack. If you're not "brutal" enough, you're deathcore. If you're "too technically sound", you're death metal. Waking The Cadaver are a genuine brutal death metal band. This is WTC's peak of musical sickness. This album takes a fuckton of hate, but hey, take a look at the grand spectrum of brutal death metal. Perverse Recollections is a fine addition to the archive of phenomenal brutal death metal albums.
Waking The Cadaver have the image of dirty baseball snapbacks, oversized Kraanium and Vulvectomy t-shirts, and basketball shorts you get at Wal-Mart for 5 hard earned American dollars. They are the men with the "dankest of kush" and the "greasiest of foreskins." Take all this imagery and plug it into the grimy sewer known as brutal death metal. It fits! It really fucking fits. Take some of the most elite brutal death metal outfits. Disgorge, Gorgasm, Kraanium, Vulvectomy, Cephalotripsy, etc. I don't see how this band is any different. Especially this album. It's crushing brutality, and they're honest to their little moniker. "Slamming Gore Groove."
Deathcore bands are prolific with the lyrical stylings of "Bitch, I'm mad, and Imma stomp on shit." WTC raise the bar a tad bit. They're upgrading deathcore lyrics. It's real brutal death metal lyrics. It's taking "I'm mad, so I'm gonna yell." To "Imma spark up a blunt, and shoot your fucking head off." Brutal death metal is most noted for it's slamming guitars, blast beats, and guttural vocals. This album offers up all of this. People can shit on the guitar sound as much as they want, but close your eyes and listen to Kraanium riffs, then WTC riffs. Extremely similar. Kraanium has even covered WTC shit! But the guitars on this album are a blueprint for brutal death metal. You can't dissect the drums as much, but it's obvious that they're raw, grimy, and as filthy as cum shot on your bed that you're too tired to clean up. Last thing, the vocals. They're guttural, and they vary. He has a growl, "wa-wa-waaaaa-wirrr" shit going on, and a straightforward yell. It's unique to Don Campan. Once you hear it, you won't forget it. I think this is a very memorable, welcome quality.
If you're a fan of brutal death metal, listen to these guys. Of course you're entitled to your own opinion, but try to pick this apart, and notice that this and your average "elitist shit" isn't all too different. This may be called "Wigger Slam", but that's no reason to automatically downgrade this. If you don't look at them, it's just hard, dirty, slam! If you do like image though, this is even more wood for the fire. Embrace the Slamming Gore Groove!
