Closer of the "Marriage" Trilogy... - 90%

Three years later now since the two "Marriage" records - and Defeis releases an album which establishes everything he has build up with his previous two works and again, even manages to top those.

What it boils down to is that "Invictus" is basically the closing chapter of the "Marriage..." trilogy - something which is obvious, partly thanx to the excellent and informative booklet, as well as the various musical references (the "Marriage" theme gets repeated through all three chapters).

Musically this is one of Vs's finest works to date - everything seemingly fits here perfectly - the story, the production as well as the excellent songwriting, resulting in more than a handfull of classics and one of the best "true" and "epic" Metal albums of that decade.

Highlights are the titeltrack, "Sword Of The Gods", the amazing "Defiance" and without a doubt the 10 minute closing song "Veni, Vidi, Vici" which once and for all establishes Defeis talent as a songwriter.

If you do not yet own this - then go out and buy it - you will not regret it in the slightest...
