So I decided to check this band out after seeing that they are touring with Amon Amarth and Decapitated. Seeing as it was an opener band, I was expecting it to just be another screamo/metalcore band. Well after listening to this, I would say I was half right.
Aftermath is the opener, and I was surprised by the smoothness of the beginning opening melodic riff. Pretty catchy. But then you lose that awesomeness fast and begin to wish you are listening to something else. The fill riffs are definitely metalcore that are just bland and the chorus riffs just are generic and uninspiring. A whole lot of alt rock 'driving' strumming of the easy simple chords are very prevalent in the songs. In the end I only really liked the song Aftermath, because after that, they just reuse and alternate the melody again for the next song. I literally though I was listening to the same song again because the structure never changes, and the melodies never differentiate.
Bass is not even audible, but I guess the bassist is just following the riffs which is alright, just keeping it heavy. The drums are just standard punk beats that vaguely combine with double bass to do random fills.
The vocals are hoarse and somewhat harsh but feels like he just doesn't have the power to deliver really good extreme vocals. This band also likes to use a annoyingly large amount of clean vocals. They are not terrible, but the band used them practically as much as the harsh vocals, if not more. It sounds good at first in terms of getting a real effect, but after hearing the same vocal melody recycled and replayed with the same clean vocals in the next song and then again in the song after that, it gets old.
Overall, this can be described as -core influenced new In Flames. The amount of easy listening riffs and semi extreme vocals combined with the clean make this sound very In Flames like. The actual delivery of said vocals, the fill riffs, and pop melodies make this much like metalcore. I am neutral on this because even though this reeks of radio friendly pop stuff, the writing is ok and some of the songs have some good melodies. So in the end, you wont find much death in this but if you want to listen to a more catchy band or if you love In Flames, then you might see something in this.
