Written based on this version: 2012, CD, Infernö Records (Limited edition, Digipak)

Is good to know about bands that were formed in the 80’s decade are active again, Prime Evil is one of them; I remember this band was reviewed and interviewed by underground media somewhere in the 90’s, so they are back with two former members: Mike Usifer (guitar) and Andy Eichhorn (vocals), both of them joined talents and recorded this EP to show that Prime Evil is back and stronger than ever! With no more preambles and because this band makes me feel anxious let’s try to express what this release is about; Evilution is a three track EP full of fast music where a total intense feeling predominates, such format allows me to know in a practical way how the band prepared their return in almost nine minutes of pain and musical devastation.

There are just three tracks of thrash/death metal executed with a high conviction in all the departments and this is definitely one of those bands that are good when combining two genres. The new Prime Evil plays more like old Death and Malevolent Creation but more oriented to the fast style with very technical parts. Guitars are just intense with a dose of variable movements which is something this CD is surrounded by, I mean the riffing is totally destructive and direct in the same tone but at times the sharp tones grind the songs with sick sounds like death metal bands from the early 90’s used to do. Guitars are just the most variable axes I’ve heard lately, a kind of lethal weapon. The vocal department is full of aggression and hate, this guy really sings in a strong way and with conviction. I can’t say much about drums since they are programmed but the percussion really helped to make stronger this band’s return release.

The three songs are intense and full of heaviness with great guitar solos and unexpected rhythms, I can’t say which one is the best song but believe me they are not the same and there’s a kind of never ending pleasure while listening. Prime Evil is a band with a technical style and at the same time is aggressive and ultra-fast but in my opinion there’s not much brutality. I wonder if that was because there are not real drums. This release is amazing since the first song which starts with an intense feeling and since the vocals start to sing, then that feeling of intensity is activated for almost nine minutes. The song writing is diverse on every track although I can’t deny that at first listening I felt I was listening to the same song three times but a couple of times later I noticed the nice characteristics on each one of them, and I was not disappointed. The only thing I didn’t like is the guitar sound, sometimes I feel it sounds a little low.

Prime Evil is back although this is not a full length they just impacted me with this three song E. It is true that sometimes we demand more from experienced bands but here is the proof that they get better and this release is to announce that Prime Evil is back and a heavier full length is coming with a complete line up. The three songs deserve to be mentioned: Crucifixion Aftermath, Barbarick Rites and Evilution Decree.
