Fantom - Lucifer jelenj meg!

A Hungarian Black Metal Classic - 100%

anti_goth_666, September 18th, 2004

Although Tormentor is said to be the classic Hungarian black metal band, Fantom was even better in my opinion. I can say that Fantom was "The Hungarian Bathory" and they could represent the ancient feeling of black metal in music just as in lyrics: only gruesome melodies and satanic words can be found here. The only thing why Tormentor is better known abroad is that Fantom lyrics are Hungarian. Their influences came from such bands like Bathory, Possessed, Hellhammer, Venom and Slayer.

There are 9 songs on this demo masterpiece which was made in 1987 so the sound is not crystal clear. Demo has been given the title of the 6th song which is well-known about its refrain:

"Black magic, black magic, black magic -
there is no daylight anymore but eternal night".

This starts with a dreadful intro which recalls the vision of the endless night.

Some words about the others:

The 1st song is a short, fast black metal attack and its tune is a little bit similar to The Third of the Storms of Hellhammer but more aggressive and comes with a hysterical, morbid singing voice. It's about a vampire who has risen from his grave.

Believe or not, the 2nd song is very close to INRI of Sarcófago, especially to "Nightmare". It's really strange because both songs were recorded in the same year and the titles also accord with each other (Lidérces álom means Nightmare in English). But I don't think they know about each other...

The 3rd song is quite fast, the 4th is a little bit slower and we can hear lots of hateful words against Jehovah... All of the following songs are fast. The most satanic part of the demo is the 9th song which shows the total destruction of Heaven and Christendom after Armageddon.
