Holy shit! This release is powerful fucking chaos! So many complex riffs, so many voices, vocals, samples, so many layers of music and noise! Argghhh! This is so good! This is by far my favourite De Magia Veterum release to date. The Blood of Prophets and Saints is a huge step up from its predecessor ‘Spikes Through Eyes’. It’s virtually a whole new world of chaos in comparison.
The guitar jumped right out of this album, it was the first thing to capture my attention. The tone is much thicker than both previous releases, though it still maintains the ‘De Magia Tone’, it really makes the album that much more enjoyable. Not only the tone but the actual playing is incredible; there are so many riffs! One riff is lucky to be featured for more than 10 seconds. The guitars are the highlight of this release.
The guitars are placed right up in the mix, which I noticed is quite odd in comparison to the previous releases (Spikes Through Eyes placed the guitars at close to the bottom of the mix), in my opinion, the music sounds fuller and more chaotic with the guitars so high in the mix. Also, I noticed that the synths are buried far beneath everything else and in (most) parts it’s actually hard to find the melodies under all the blast beats, insane riffs, samples, vocals, etc. etc. etc. I find this weird, I would’ve expected synths up high in the mix since the previous effort, Spikes Through Eyes, was more synth based than anything else. I guess you never know what to expect from De Magia Veterum except pure fucking chaos.
