Generic? Yes. - 44%

Bile Nephrosis is just an example of the generic style of death metal nowadays. This release offers nothing special at all, and will actually bore you to death while listening to it. There are so many bad things going on in this album, and not enough good to give this release some justice.

This full-length release offers a listener 15 tracks of generic music. Musically, this release is typical and offers nothing special or breath taking. Vocally, there is a little skill shown, but not enough to give it any justice. I'll go more in-depth on these aspects.

First off, I'd like to point out that the guitar tone is actually great. The guitar tone helps make this music sound a lot heavier than it is. The guitar riffs are a little weak, but they try to hide it by being a little 'technical'. Bile Nephrosis is in no way technical, but hell, at least they try sometimes. The meat of the guitar riffs is mainly fast picked power chords, and some minor melodic breakdowns, such as in 'Repeatophile' and 'Hook Abortion'. There is also a lot of triplet style picking, usually as fills. The bass work is pretty much non-existent. There is really no place where it is heard, so I assume he is either bad, or they suck at mixing their music.

I'd also like to point out that the drum machine used in this release is horrible. The drum machine sounds real, but the way they use it makes it sound horrible. Half of the songs, it plays at an unreal speed. I really don't get why bands do this when using a drum machine. It really makes the music sound bad, and a real drummer can't recreate the speed. The drum machine on the rest of the album usually plays at a normal speed.

The vocals in the release are the basic death grind style. They are low and screamy, but not gurgle styled. I think that the vocals are probably the part with the most effort used. The vocalist really sounds like he tries in the songs. There is also some clean singing in 'Repeatophile' which sounds pretty cool.

The last aspect I'd like to point out is the use of intro clips. Bile Nephrosis really uses these too much, and in an annoying way. All of the clips they use are dumb, and make you want to skip the song. There is even a clip that is 1:46 long, and leaves less than 5 seconds for music.

Bile Nephrosis has a lot of things to work on. I think once they harness a new style, or totally fix the one they are trying to do they will be a good band. I'll probably be checking into their newer work in hopes of more talent.
