Wow! Anthriel’s debut is an excellent example of the power/prog genre. I discovered these guys only a few months back and was taken in after the first listen.
The album is inspired by fantasy author R.A. Salvatore's Forgotten Realms: The Dark Elf Trilogy. It is very well crafted and structured in a way that the album just flows from start to finish. There is excellent musicianship form all, catchy riffs and melodies that stay in your head and are not easily forgotten. Simo Silvan’s voice is mostly mid range and higher and he uses it very well throughout the whole album. I would have to say that the songs are progressive with a power metal style and a little neo classical thrown in as well. There is nothing really groundbreaking here but great a deliverance of masterful songs played superbly!
Personal favorites songs are Haven of Grace, Devil’s lullaby, Light Divine and Promise Land. The Pathway is an outstanding album and is highly recommended if you’re into this genre.
