| The Polish death metal scene continues to proliferate with many new bands arising in the shadows of the greats. Crawling Death is not exactly a new band, they've been around for some time, but New Murder Art is their first full-length release. The band plays a brutal and dynamic style of death, not always technical, but judging from some of the crazier riffs on the later half of the album, they could probably adapt that strategy if they desired. What manifests here is a lot of chugging, some groove, interspersed with some old school grinding, evil death metal riffs. The vocals are meaty enough to appeal to fans of Vader, Trauma and other great Polish death metal acts. The mix of the album compliments the lower end guitar chords yet allows for the leads to come through clearly. On to the songs, there are a few I liked and a few I could live without. I thought "I Carry the Dead" was the best of the lot with its barbaric groove trade-off with some pure death metal riffing. Some of the more technical tunes like "Salvation Through Rope" and "Vox in Rama" were decent. As for the rest, the songs sound good but just don't have enough aggression or memorable riffing. I doubt Crawling Death is going to break into the top tiers of Polish death metal with this debut, but it's a solid foundation from which to build. This isn't at all 'bad'. The album sounds good and they're talented enough musically, I think they will write better songs than these. -autothrall http://www.fromthedustreturned.com |

| Previous to receiving an e-mail from Let Them Come Productions I had never heard of this band (nor label for that matter), so I didn’t really know what to expect other than death metal. So I was glad to hear the quality of what they present right from the get go. Well ok, after a minute long intro, so not exactly ‘get go’. But yeah, there’s no question about the quality here, as it is top-notch in both writing and execution, and the production is decent enough. The fast and brutal blasting of the drums is accompanied by heavy-as-shit guitars, keeping an entirely different and chugging pace. This reminds me a lot of their fellow countrymen Hate on their Anaclasis album. And to tell you the truth, the overall material of Crawling Death sounds a lot like mixing Hate with Vader, so it has an undeniably Polish flavour. But they don’t fall flat in the land of boring clones, as they present their tunes with sheer brutality and energy. The riffing is slick, and the song structures are easy on the ears (much like previously mentioned Vader does). However, this is not easy listening, so don’t get me wrong. The music is brutal, the blasting is killer and the deep growling of Maryj is really wicked. It’s catchy death metal with some semi-technical guitar leads and lots of melody laced into the brutality. But, ‘cause there is a big but here (no pun intended), something ceases me from fully enjoying the album. It starts of intense and great, but my interest fades after a while. And a track like "The hands resist him" feels very run-in-the-mill and uninspired. So it has both its ups and downs, although mostly ups! Originally written for http://www.mylastchapter.net |
