I don't understand how people take this seriously - 1%

I do not consider myself to be an expert on metal. But I do consider myself as good a judge as any when deciding what music is listenable and what isn’t. This would fall under the “isn’t” category. Now I do not say this because I am a stranger to brutal music. I am an avid death metal fan and have written a handful of reviews for death metal albums on this site. I know what brutal music is supposed to sound like and this isn’t it. Playing seemingly random notes to pass as “riffs” is not brutal. Chug-a-lug breakdowns are not brutal. Drumming that sounds like a tennis ball inside of a paint can being shaken up and down rapidly is not brutal. And vocals that sound like someone drinking a slurpee are most certainly not brutal.

I really have no idea how anyone can take this band seriously. They have absolutely no structure in any of their “songs”. The first song on this demo is just a big breakdown. The riff is the same throughout the entire song. Did I mention that guitarists suck? The bass is also entirely inaudible as well. This band could not plug the bassist into an amp and you would not be able to tell the difference.

Don Campan is an atrocious vocalist. He is so bad he deserves one paragraph all to himself because this man can do it all. He can do his annoying inhaled (?) slurpee vocals, his pig squealing vocals and his... wait? What’s this? Growled vocals? That’s right, he does try an attempt at growling during the first song. Of course, he fails miserably. Maybe if he had been doing it not in a breakdown it would have been less laughable.

Now to the drumming, most people have compared the drumming on this album to the drumming on St. Anger. This isn’t really a fair comparison because there is one significant difference between the drumming on that album and on this one. The drumming on that album is just plain annoying, it sounds like he’s banging on trash cans. The drumming on this album (as I’ve mentioned before) sounds like they have a tennis ball inside of a paint can and they’re shaking it up and down really fast, and to tell the truth it sounds hilarious! It really detracts from the music as well. If there was anything interesting about this music then I definitely missed it because the drums were just so distracting.

In conclusion this is really not worth buying and it’s hardly worth downloading or searching on youtube to listen to. If you want “brutal” music then listen to some brutal death metal bands like Devourment, Suffocation, Deeds of Flesh etc.

Gut bustingly awful - 4%

I’ve just had my first experience with “Waking the Cadaver”, listening to the two songs on this demo and well, I’m glad I heard it for free.

Before I break into a spiel about the phenomenally awful waste of studio and listener time that is the self titled Waking the Cadaver demo, I must point out that I’m no elitist and I’ll give pretty much anything a try. Neither do I hate core because it’s core – I greatly enjoy Killswitch Engage and Despised Icon, among others, and have even found positives about Trivium. This out of the way, there really is very little to be enjoyed in this five minutes, though.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is a recording where all the worst parts of death metal come together and spawn a vile bastard child with all the worst parts of –core music. There is staggeringly little redeeming about this, and it should be heard just once for novelty value, and/or as a benchmark to what making music should NOT sound like.

Both the songs sound exactly like each other. Abysmal guitar riffs that do nothing other than immensely frustrate the listener – the same old garbage, slam riffs, series of pinch harmonics, obvious Dying Fetus influence, you know what to expect. Expect that, then subtract it even more to an utterly contemptible level. There is no bass to speak of, (or is that a good thing?) so it’s not really worth dwelling on that too much. The drumming is the usual crap also, inconsistent jumpdafuckup style slam rubbish, all over the place with a terrible tone that serves to only irritate the listener.

The vocals are the low point of the demo surely. It’s tough for me to tolerate pig grunts at the best of times, but when that’s all the vocals consist of, this brings the demo from around 27% to 4%. It’s precisely nothing other than mindless, uninspiring drivel, and you start to wonder, why did they even bother writing lyrics? Not only are they impossible to make out, but I genuinely am lost for words to begin describing the infantile puke that constitutes these lyrics.

Album highlight: “Blood Splattered Satisfaction” is slightly less abhorrent than “Chased Through the Woods by A Rapist.” It’s not much of a highlight, hence this shitheap gets 4%. This wretched, pathetic, pitiful band Waking the Cadaver can fuck off and die, and so can all their despicable scenekid fans.

Waking the Cadaver created quite a stir around 2006-2007. They were kind of called the next big thing in modern metal. I met the vocalist of this band a year ago and he's actually a pretty cool guy. However, this demo is not pretty cool at all. I am with the majority of the people who dislike this demo.

This demo almost clocks in at 5 minutes if one of the songs was three seconds longer. This is not really a great demo whatsoever. At one point though, I was really digging this demo a lot to be brutally honest. This demo gets old really fast. Maybe if had more songs and more substance, it would be pretty interesting. For the most part, it's really uninteresting and just simply awful.

Chased Through the Woods by a Rapist (stupid long title) has a really stupid sample about murderers, it sounds like it was taken from some kind of old film you would watch in high school. Well this is just 10 seconds and it's really a waste. The music starts and the first thing you hear are one of the guitars, drums and the vocals. It starts off a bit slow at first. It gains momentum later. The vocals are pretty damn deep and you can almost understand what he's vocalizing, but it's really hard to tell to tell what he's saying. Yes, there were quite a few different interpretations that are scattered about on the Internet. That's what made this dumb band famous, because of those interpretations. I read the real lyrics and I do not believe he is vocalizing that. Then the other guitar comes in and this song speeds up. The snare drum sounds like crap. I believe the drums sound like the drums found on Metallica's St. Anger! However, not as bad the drums on St. Anger.

The guitar riffs are not really memorable at all in this song. The guitars sound like shit and that's pretty much it. At about the :59 mark, there's the sample of a shotgun going off. Who cares, it doesn't make the song better at all. Then the guitarists perform pinch harmonics around the 1:30 mark. This caught my attention the first listens around, but they attempt to sound "br00tal" by doing this. The double bass blasts are not really good as well and they don't improve the song. The drums are all over the place and there is no consistency at all. Basically, everything is all over the place. All of the instrumentation sounds bad and the vocal patterns are weak. I cannot stand this song at all. The next song is no prize either.

Bloodsplattered Satisfaction is the 2nd and final song on here. When you hear the vocalist in this song in the beginning it sounds like he's saying "twee twee" rather than "bree bree." I don't know, it sounds like he's saying "twee twee" to me. It's really fucking pathetic and sad. These vocals are made fun of over and over again. It is not hard to figure out why. It sounds really juvenile! The only time you can understand him on this one when he says the title of this song. This song is weak as all hell even at the part where the bass goes boom at the :30 mark. This begins the first breakdown of the song. It has weak written all over it. The breakdowns in this song are crap. The drums are inconsistent, extremely inconsistent. I find this track really boring.

I must say that this is one of the worst releases next to Satanic Army's Fuck Christ single and Metallica's poor excuse for an album St. Anger. I don't know of any other release I have listened to that is worse than this. Well there is Cryptopsy's 2008 album, but I have not listened to it. I presume that is just as bad or even worse than this worthless demo. This is a really accessible demo, it can be downloaded with ease. If you like this, that is just fine. I happen to dislike this demo. I give these guys 5%, because they gave it the good old college try. Don't quit your day jobs!

If I may divert your attention for just a moment, you might learn an interesting insight into Waking The Cadaver’s music. Sometime ago, your humble reviewer got into a disagreement with a WTC fan, which escalated into threats from my easily-riled opponent.
After working himself into something of a rage, he proceeded to push his face up against mine, his two-tone fringe flapping in my eyes in an annoying fashion, threatening all the physical violence his emaciated limbs could muster. Then, with absolutely no counter-argument, he walked off, abandoning his ‘beef’ with me out of boredom.

This, lads and ladettes, is a perfect allegorical example for the band we speak of now. Waking The Cadaver, through such song titles as ‘Chased Through The Woods By A Rapist’ and use of the term ‘slamming gore groove’, would have you believe they’re the most mercilessly brutal death metal band around. But when push comes to shove, they do not deliver the goods they promise. Whatever aural violence WTC insist is coming, it ultimately shows itself as transparently thin, lifeless and dull beyond measure.

This eponymous debut demo is one of the most disgustingly unlistenable recordings it will ever be your displeasure to hear. Perhaps unfairly, many have arrived at that conclusion already after noting the band’s association with the deathcore genre, but ultimately this demo pulls of the remarkable feat of lowering the dire standards of deathcore even further.

What we have here is music that is based solely and completely upon breakdowns and beatdown guitar work. Guitar work, however, isn’t really an appropriate phrase to be using – throughout the demo’s mercifully short run time, the guitarists crank out chugging, basic-to-a-fault power chords that rely 100% on guitar tone to achieve some modicum of heaviness, a playing style that is stuck to irrespective of such concerns as tempo – the band favour an ultra slow pace about four fifths of the time, and the chugging that emerges is imaginative to the point of being absurd. Things aren’t much different when they speed up either, still listless, still unmemorable, still utterly, hopelessly dull.

As for WTC’s rhythm section, they are capable of inspiring some real irritation. The drumming here jumps from uninspired to flat-out unsettling, managing to superbly wrong-foot the listener with short bursts of blastbeats that are, on both tracks, out of time. That’s right. The dumb bastard isn’t quite capable of performing in time with some distressingly uncomplicated work. Couple this with the production, which lends the snare drum a ‘bung-bung’ sound not dissimilar to that found on Metallica’s ‘St. Anger’... not exactly appealing eh? As for the bass...well, it’s hard to comment on anything on a record you can’t discern isn’t it?

But all these relentlessly bad elements take a backseat to the vocals and the lyrical content of WTC’s debut demo, because here the band hit an absolute nadir.
The vocalisations employed are beyond unlistenable. Devoid of variety in any shape or form, and delivered with a clearly definable lack of passion, what we hear is a death grunt that (to call up a well-worn cliché) one might imagine an irritable pig might make when it’s swill is brought to it too late. One can only assume that Don Campan has got it into his head that some form of articulation is unimportant in death metal so long as you can pitch your growl low enough – each and every childishly misogynistic phrase he belches out is reduced to a trite assortment of gurgles.

The lyrics ultimately serve simply to annoy the listener, each line apparently designed solely to offend with their laughably over-the-top violent sexism. This is tired trick that Cannibal Corpse flogged to death and wisely abandoned long ago, and the relish which with this uber-ironic, gender-specific lyrical form is adopted is vaguely enraging – as though WTC have taken all the ‘shocking’ face value elements of death metal and attempted to replicate them without truly engaging with the genre and understanding what makes good DM. Though of course, as many reviewers have wisely pointed out, the lyrics do serve to provide some form of entertainment – it’s fantastic to think just how bad the band’s sexual frustration must be to write such childish odes to rape and mutilation.

Bereft of any single element that either elevates it from inciting abject boredom or presents a new idea to the listener, Waking The Cadaver’s demo is an exemplary example of just how insipid music can become. Now that’s done with, your reviewer is off out to carve the WTC boys to pieces with a rusty chainsaw - fair compensation for the violations this trash has inflicted upon ears all around.

Shorter Songs!! - 35%
Written by TheMorticiansFlame on March 17th, 2008

The thing about Waking the Cadaver is they are a band whose only purpose is to shock you and make you feel sick. With song names like these, it is the only reasonable explanation. If you do not like these songs after the first thirty seconds, stop listening, it does not get much better.

I think it needs no saying that the technical aspect of this album is pretty pathetic. The guitars are playing mindlessly, and the drumming is almost offensively off-time. Song progression does not exist to these guys. The songs go on too long and stop getting interesting very fast.

I am not usually one to criticize the "bree bree" vocals too badly, but this shit is ridiculous, it’s like they did not even want to have a decent vocal track. I don't even feel like taking the time to look up the lyrics because it will either be unimaginative gore, or a huge joke, the latter being in their favor much more.

Though mildly entertaining, and a good joke among friends, Waking the Cadaver lacks obvious substance and integrity, but if you want to get about halfway through a song and get sick of it and turn it off, then you should probably download these songs, because that’s the only acceptable way to listen to them.

After hearing all the myspace buzz about Waking the Cadaver and their demo, I had to go check out what everyone was talking about. After giving it a good listen, I couldn't help but wonder how so many people latched on to this band. Sure, there are kids who think this band is the most brutal thing they have ever heard (especially the scene kids). But for listeners of REAL death metal, this band is something to laugh at and joke about.

The singer does nothing but pig squeal and grunt throughout the entire demo!
He attemps to sound brutal, but it ends up sounding ridiculus. The drummer is off at times, and his drum fills are very sloppy and unorganized. Plus his snare drum sounds like popcorn cooking in the microwave! The guitarist's riffs are mostly chuga-chuga during the breakdowns, and fast, tremolo picking riffs during the blasting, put together very unthoughtful. The whole piece put together sounds not only hilarious, but horrible. I went on the bands website and saw "Gore not Core", when the band has more core influence breakdowns than most bands. If Waking the Cadaver got a new drummer, cut down on the breakdowns and pig squealing, then they would be semi- decent.

Bottom line is, if you like mediocre, wannabe brutal death metal, with popcorn drums and pig squeals, then get this. But if you want some REAL death metal, check out some Disgorge or Incantation. Anyone who is looking for some true death metal should steer clear away from this. Lets leave Waking the Cadaver to the scene and "br00tal" kids.

...this is really, really awful.

So I'd heard scene kiddies talk about how br00tal this band was, and my first thought was 'bound to be some sort of deathcore.' A quick trip to MA confirmed this hunch and also provided me with the opinion of many great and experienced metalheads. There was a general concensus; SUCK. Being as it's deathcore, I didn't expect anything else. I dismissed it.

So why am I writing this review so long after I actually first heard of the band? Boredom and curiosity. I recently gave this demo a listen to see if it was really so bad.

It was.

Now, enough about why I'm typing this and more about the actual music. Put simply, it's utterly obnoxious. Imagine a 2 minute long, boring -core breakdown. Throw in a short section of furious but poorly executed and utterly tedious guitar work in the middle. That's the basis of Waking the Cadaver's music.

The drums. Oh fuck, what can I say about the drums? Terrible. It sounds like he's playing kitchenware. You know the infamously bad drum work from St. Anger? Yeah, worse than that by far. BUT, it's not actually the worst part of the music. That award goes to none other than the vocals.

Allow me to demonstrate;

"Tonight this cunt will pay.
My dick will beat her face.
Her life and her cunt are mine.
This slut shall now see."

These charming lyrics are rendered something like this;

"REEEE BREEEE REEEE
REEEE REEEE BREEEE
BREEEEEEEEE!"

Imagine the sound of a pig being kicked in the nuts. That's what it sounds like.

I don't think I have anything more to say about this. It's just truly terrible. In conclusion; if you thought Job For a Cowboy was shit, you should try this.

Well here we have another over-br00talized boring as fuck deathcore band. There is absolutely no redeeming quality of this album. At all.

First we have 'Chased Through the Woods by a Rapist.' First thing that catches your ear is the extremely generic slam riff + the most annoying tone on a drum ever (think St. Anger.) Then the vocals kick in. If you like vocalists to just repeat 'bree bree bree' with the occasional 'ree' then you might enjoy this. The rest of the song is basically a tempo increase for about 5 seconds with off time blast-beats, and then a breakdown. And then another breakdown. End of song.

Next up is 'Bloodspattered Satisfaction.' I don't really need to write a description of this song, as it's pretty much the same song as the first. I had hopes that the first track was just a joke track, and they were crushed as soon as the song started. Same pig squeals, same drums, same slamming riffs, same breakdowns.

If you're a fan of trendy deathcore, it's likely you'll enjoy this. Everyone else, don't bother with this album. It's not worth the 5 minutes of your life.

Quality Slam - 75%
Written by sinsovtheson on November 28th, 2007

I realize that most purist metal heads despise this band due to the fact that their music is very simplistic and has some core influences, but times are changing and everything is not about fast and intricate song structure. This is straight up slam, not death metal or any type of grind. Slam is all rhythm, implicating grooving riffs, slamming beatdowns, and guttural vocals. WTC stay true to this, as they are one of the pioneering bands of the genre.

On Chased Through The Forest... the song structure is very simple, comprised mainly of beatdowns with two tremelo riffs. Guttural vocals and pig squeels to top it off. Not much to say about this song.

Bloodsplattered Satisfaction offers much more as far as structure and overall quality. More death metal riffing with a couple barbaric beatdowns in the middle to go along with the sing-alongish line. This is definately the highlight of the song. Vocals also show a little more range and variation.

This demo is just a small treat of what's yet to come from Waking The Cadaver. They probably should have added a few more songs, but all in all it was alright for a demo. I am very much looking forward to their full length.

With deathcore being the new trendy bullshit scene in metal, metalcore band Death To Honor changed their name to Waking The Cadaver and jumped right on the bandwagon. Unfortunately these guys became popular, for some unkown reason, and I know them. I went to high school with the bassist and when I was in an active band played with them, as Death To Honor.

To the music, it's just really terrible. Nothing but sloppy boring blast beats, breakdowns that will make you feel stupid because of how simple they are, oh and worst of all the ridiculously annoying BREEEE BREEE BREEE vocals. Fuck! How can that be considered good by anyone? Basically this is really really dumbed down death metal combined with really really dumbed down metalcore. What does that get you? A completely worthless band that gives me, New Jersey, and metal a bad name. They even have the balls to say "Gore not core" on their website. Are they that trendy and just wanna be accepted, or do they really think that this is REAL death metal? If you see this demo, or anything Waking The Cadaver related for tha matter, run away as fast as you can. This is garbage.

If you thought Annotations of an Autopsy was the worse band to emerge from the scene of slamming death. You're in for a treat when you listen to Waking the Cadaver's effortless demo. The name of the band alone, is a sure fire disgrace to the great state of New Jersey. It is difficult to focus on just the album when the band is terrible enough.

This album is a goldmine to the minds of many who know the difference between what is real, and what is a hoax. To my dismay, I came upon a struggle: Where I should start off?

A problem no longer.

This demo is now the epitome of musical failures in extreme arts. Or lack of extremity, when giving this soundtrack of excrement a listen. A combination of pig squeals, seemingly endless breakdowns and terrible blast/gravity beats never work out, no matter how hard a band may try. This is simply one band that isn't trying at all. Worse, there is a fanbase that follows before the trail of dingleberries that WtC leave behind. Dubbing their music as grindcore, death metal, or a combo of the two is a tantamount to even considering them music at all.

We now delve further into the talent that they cannot present. You'd think that a band with such provacative song titles could, and inevitably will, come off as a brutal band of most gruesome proportions. However, you are now obligated to perishing such thoughts when you finally give the band a listen. The band is neither brutal, nor gruesome. Wether they do this for comedic value or not, is trully beyond me.

They are not putting any effort into their. As breakdowns are undoubtably the easiest thing to come up with, and you are no talent for making a song out of an entire breakdown. You are certainly not smart for even thinking so.

With all of this said. Avoid this band as you would the plague.

How the hell did this get popular??? - 1%

Waking the Cadaver is a band that, since their 2006 demo, has gotten something of a cult following. Before I move onto the review, I would simply like to state that I am CONFOUNDED as to what this band did to get so much attention.

The two tracks in this demo are:
Chased Through the Woods by a Rapist
Bloodsplattered Satisfaction

Chased Through the Woods by a Rapist is a track that begins with a fake police report of a girl who was kidnapped. After this into is over, the audio assault commences!! Your ears are instantly hit with THE most obnoxious drums in the world, even worse than St. Anger. Of course, the drums aren't the number 1 problem in this insipid demo. No, it's hands down, the vocals. I suppose the easiest way to describe the vocals in this band would be the sound of an animal (a pig comes to mind) being mutilated. It's not brutal, it's just fucking annoying.

Bloodsplattered Satisfaction does not have an intro, meaning it cuts right to the bullshit from second 1. What you'll discover first is that it's equally as obnoxious as the first ear rape track. This is mostly due to the fact that it sounds almost exactly the same. So, there's not much to say here. If you hated the first track, you're going to hate this one too.

I just realized something. I'd like to take this moment to answer the question of my review title. I think it became popular, for comedy value. It was probably so bad, that people listened to it just to laugh at it. I apologize in advance for stereotyping people, but i get the feeling that the only people who actually LIKE this, are pathetic kids who try to look br00tal by listening to this trash.

Oh, and by the way. I gave this album a 1%, because these guys at least tried to do SOMETHING. Problem is, they failed...miserably.

5 minutes of breakdowns... - 20%

I'm going to keep this review short. Waking the Cadaver's first demo is a decent attempt at the deathcore genre. Though this demo is a suckfest, there are some good qualities to it. For instance, both songs are fairly well done, the production is basically album quality, the drums sound good as does the guitar. That's it. On to the bad things! For starters, the vocals are so fucking lame. The vocalists just try too fucking hard to sound brutal, but fail miserably. And another thing, both songs are mainly just one long breakdown! The main structures of the songs are "5 seconds of blasting, breakdowns, breakdowns, breakdowns -insert totally br00tal riff here- breakdowns, breakdowns, MAYBE a little bit of blasting, end of song". That is basically both of the songs. Nothing more, nothing less.

To make a long story short, it sounds like these guys are emos who heard a Job for a Cowboy song and predicted the trend coming and fucking ran with it. I give these guys props for releasing a 2 SONG DEMO and now have one of the biggest fanbases ever in, what, 1 year? In all, this band is br00tal fisherxXxprice-core. I recommend this pile of shit to any one who loves deathcore or is mentally retarded. Everyone else keep the fuck away.

What a waste of 5 minutes. I could have listened to much better music during that time.

First of all, this is brutal, yes. It is loud, fast, and violent. But that's all it is. There is no music here, just a soundtrack for people to hardcore dance and beat the shit out of each other. And I also use the term "brutal" loosely. This is an illusion of brutality, but these guys still couldn't stand up against Suffocation, Aborted and their like. Which brings me to my next argument. Why listen to this shit when there are real brutal death metal bands that do this so much better? Better vocals, better DRUMMING (off-beat, their drummer is. Displeased I am), better guitar, everything. I can't even go into the bass, cuz....you can't hear it. The vocals sound like a pig being slaughtered. And did I mention the drummer's off-beat? I think you should know that. My recommendation, listen to some real brutal death metal before you listen to this shit. You'll also find breakdowns galore, just better-executed and not as overused.

If these guys want my respect, they're gonna have to have a massive overhaul. Line-up changes (lose the vocalist and the drummer) and the other ones are gonna have to work on their shit....A LOT.

As the new trend of death metal mixed with metalcore starts to rise and flourish, we shall expect many new bands to appear, riding along the style of deathcore. Some will be able to making redeeming music that focuses on the strong points of the genre, some will just base their music on the crappy qualities of the genre. Waking the Cadaver is of the latter type. I decided to check out this band from all the buzz going about on them, I was intrigued by how they are so popular with only a two track demo out. Then I go and listen to the two tracks and I am completely lost on how this band is so praised.

The demo starts with the song Chased Through the Forest by a Rapist which begins with a sample of someone describing killers' actions, I guess its to connect the song with the name, then the music comes in. The music in general is a Wormed brutality with the worst aspects of metalcore.

You are instantly assaulted with the most stupid vocals and lamest breakdown-ish riff ever. The irritating drummer casually popping a hit on the tom is what this joke can do on drums. The vocals are general brutal type vocals; burping, squealing, and even chirping. Basically anything that isn't normally sung by a human being. We hear a upturn in speed as the band tries to but some more death metal in the song which sounds pretty good. The drummer still sucks but oh well. This doesn't last long as the band quickly drops the ball and conclude the song with an exceptionally long string of breakdowns. Near the end, the singer doesn't even try to 'bree' along with the band and just keeps on going at it, out of rhythm of the rest of the band.

The second song isn't as bad. Blood Splattered opens with a vicious brutal death riff session. Doesn't last long as well as the going into another stupid breakdown that is fluffed up with a few groove riffs in between. Another death type riff comes in, probably the best one on the demo. A lot of fast picking here with a flurry of notes. Then another breakdown occurs, as if we don't have enough of them, along with a few different variations of the breakdown and it concludes the demo.

This band shows some potential with their passion for brutality but unfortunately squander it with their metalcore mixture. I have no doubt they will keep on going at this music direction so the scene kids can get their own "brutal death" music to listen to.

First off, I'm going to respect the fact that this is a demo, and more than likely, a demo is going to sound like shit. During a band's demo days, the band is usually just finding their place and what is appropriate for them, and this is no exception for Waking The Cadaver.

I seriously think that this band needs work. Quite a bit of work. The drums are off-key and sound sloppy, and it tends to remind us of "St. Anger". There's more to good drumming (and blastbeats) than just speed. Also, the vocals suck. It's mostly "BREE BREE" inhaling throughout the songs. Otherwise, it sounds like a constipated ogre. The instrument work is nothing much special. It's tolerable, but it's mostly rehashed-death-metal riff, and a shitty breakdown following. But then again, it's a demo CD, and it's not like you're expecting anything remarkable.

My overall opinion is that this is good for maybe a few listens, but then it gets boring and derivative after hearing "BREE BREE" all the time. Maybe they'll improve on their full-length CD.

Here is a brand new "slam death metal" band from USA. Slam Death is the latest rising trend in US Death Metal scene. But this band sounds slightly different to me. The song structures emphasize on "Slamming" much more than "Death Metal". The music is full of breakdowns, syncopated riffs and trioles. So, this is rather a "-core" band than metal.

This 5 minute debut release is very short and seems to be made in a hurry (as we could understand from the cover art). Well, it gives the idea about the band's music; the vocals are well made, instruments sound good and quality of mixing is fine. But a longer and well-made debut demo is important for introducing a band. And that's why I've given an average rating.

There's not much to write about this demo, but i'd say it's interesting and surely promising. If they work harder in their future releases, WtC will probably be another succesful performer of the genre which Devourment created.
