Description

Originated from the Minoruphone record company founded by the Taihei Group in 1965. Minoruphone was acquired by Tokuma Shoten in 1972 and subsequently changed its name to Tokuma Musical Industries Co. Ltd. In 1983, the company was divided into two divisions: a production department named Tokuma Japan Corporation formed following the purchase of Japan Record and a sales department named Tokuma Communications Co., Ltd. In 1992, the two were merged together and the company was given the name Tokuma Japan Communications.

After the founder of Tokuma Shoten, Yasuyoshi Tokuma died on September 20, 2000, an asset management occurred. Since 2001 Tokuma Japan Communications is owned by Daiichi Kosho Co., Ltd., who bought the company along with Nippon Crown Co., Ltd.. As a result, Tokuma and Nippon Crown have a close relationship, having formed a distribution company named First Distribution (now known as Crown Tokuma Music Distribution) in 2002.
