Formed as a sub-label of Zomba Records by Clive Calder in 1981. Saw a string of success in the 1980s with early hip hop releases, and continued that success in the 1990s with releases by teen pop artists and boy bands like the Backstreet Boys, 'N Sync, and Britney Spears.
In 2002, BMG purchased the entire Zomba group, and the label became Zomba Label Group. With the merging of BMG and Sony Music in 2004, Jive was part of the Zomba Label Group. After the breakup of Sony BMG Music Entertainment in 2008, Zomba Music Group was changed to RCA/JIVE Label Group.
