Record label founded by Bad Religion guitarist Brett Gurewitz in 1980. Primarily known as a punk rock label, some of its best known artists include Bad Religion, NOFX, Pennywise, Down By Law, The Offspring, Rancid, R.K.L. (Rich Kids on LSD), Descendents, ALL, Death By Stereo, The Bouncing Souls, and more recently, Social Distortion. Through its imprint labels Anti-, Burning Heart, and Hellcat, Epitaph has produced records by a more eclectic range of artists, including Merle Haggard, Refused, and Tom Waits. The label operates out of offices in California, Canada, and the Netherlands. Recently the label has collaborated with Rhymesayers Entertainment too bring you hip-hop style releases from Atmosphere and Eyedea & Abilites among others, with more to come.
Epitaph was originally located on 22458 Ventura Blvd in Woodland Hills, CA 91367. From the late '80s to about 1995, the company was located on 6201 Sunset Boulevard, Suite 111 in Hollywood. Since 1995, Epitaph has been located at its current address.
