Lately I've been digging Manilla Road. I'm looking for some heavy metal that is in a similar vein. Epic themes, longer songs, and a handful of BADASSness. Something that makes me want to pick up a sword.

other bands like this:
virgin steele (90's and even then its a little softer than manilla)

to a lesser extent:
some maiden
manowar

complete manilla road worship is completely acceptable

You might want to check out Legend from USA. I'm not familiar with Manilla Road so I don't know how similar they are, but they certainly have all the qualities you mentioned. I first heard about them in some thread that said they were the first Epic Heavy Metal band.

Ironsword's Overlordes of Chaos is literally Manilla Road worship. Its also really, really good. I don't have any of their older stuff, but I've heard the second one is pretty MR-ish but the first is like Omen.

Now, as for bands with a similar vibe (imo of course):

Look into Winter Kill by Slauter Xstroyes. Weird, off-kilter riffing, over the top vocals, and exceptional bass work.

Someone else mentioned Brocas Helm I think. Seriously, go to Shadow Kingdom records and buy all three albums. They are each incredible in their own way.

Oh and uh, Cirith Ungol.

Excellent suggestions by a ton of board members! I'm a huge self-professed Manilla Road fan, so love that people appreciate their style of epic heavy metal!

Atlantean Kodex, Ironsword, Isen Torr, Solstice are all great suggestions.

I will add Sanctuary from the USA. It's most of the early Nevermore line-up playing STUNNING USPM. Really surprized I hadn't checked these guys out earlier.

You also need to listen to Crescent Shield. Really great Melodic USPM

You'll also likely get some mileage out of the same topic I started in 2009: http://metal-archives.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=54611

Battleroar are Manilla Road worship to the extent that they got Shelton to write and perform on the first track on the Age of Chaos album.

Yes, Enchanter fucking SLAYS. It's like a mix of Fates Warning's progressive weirdness and Manowar's epic chest-thumping.
