Lykathea Aflame - Elvenefris
http://www.metal-archives.com/review.php?id=7208

This is the highest rated album i have found. It also happens to have been my favorite death metal album for the past 4 years.

does anything have a higher rating?

Evoken's Antithesis of Light has a 97% (10). Not exactly higher, but it's still pretty damn good for an album to have a 97 with 10 reviewers.

Also, Ahab's TCotWS has a 93% (13).

Another equally highly-rated album is W.A.S.P.'s The Crimson Idol, but it has less reviews (only 9).

With 12 reviews and a score of 96, Judas Priest's Sad Wings of Destiny also comes close.

But no OP, I can't think of any score that tops what you linked to.

that actually had 100% until the last review.. the first nine gave it 100%, then the last one gave it 70%

I don't think anything under a 95 is worth mentioning for this thread.

In that case, Blood Fire Death deserves an honourable mention

94% from 19 reviews

Also, Arsis' A Celebration of Guilt

Looks like I'm the only person in the universe that doesn't like that album. I dunno if there's even been an album that had such a pos review from so many people, all the "masterpiece" albums always have at least one person saying the contrary.

Except gorguts, but their albums don't have nearly that many reviews.

Yeah, you can bet if Elvenefris got a Nuclear Blast release tomorrow, there'd be a 10% review on MA by Monday.

Used to be a time when Evoken's Anithesis had a 100% average. I'm glad to see that's gone down a smidge.

Don't worry too much Harbringer, I was never a huge fan of it either. Its certainly not a bad album, but I can't appreciate it like everyone else.

I try not to review things that are total garbage. I'm usually suckered into it. Ahab won't catch me off-guard!

A lot of big-name funeral doom could probably be in there. I echo the sentiment that Ahab deserves nowhere near that sort of score, nor does Evoken.

Reverend Bizarre's debut has 7 reviews and a 99% overall score. Pissy did have a very negative review for it, I believe... but that's gone. I can't remember what I'd score it at, myself, probably somewhere in the middle. First two tracks are great, at least.

It really doesn't deserve that, but Goat Horns is definitely around there.

Primordial's To The Nameless Dead: 14 reviews puts it at 95%.

There's also King Diamond's Abigail, 13 reviews at 97%, nearly identical to Elvenefris.

Interestingly (or maybe not) none of the reviews for Lykathea Aflame comes from a regular reviewer. It's as if the userbase from the band's message board ran amok on the Archives, or something to that effect.

that doesn't mean the reviews suck or anything, a good number of those reviews are quite good.

Happens surprsingly often, I think when Ahab and Primordial were at their highest they had very few reviews from the regulars. I think it also happens on literally every single Agalloch release. As the poster above me said, it doesn't mean that they're bad reviews, but it's an interesting point.

There are a couple more with very high scores, although most of them don't have nearly the same number of reviews. Examples:

Negură Bunget - Om, 6 reviews at 99%.
Cult of Luna - Somewhere Along the Highway, 6 reviews at 98%.
Death - Human, 16 reviews at 96%.
Demilich - Nespithe, 9 reviews at 97%.
Soundgarden - Superunknown, 8 reviews at 97%.
Neurosis - Through Silver In Blood, 6 reviews at 97%.

I hope I didn't steal anybody's thunder.

I always put that Superunknown album with Alice In Chains - Black Gives Way To Blue - [8 reviews, average 96%]

Don't complain, just be glad. Although I too am surprised that isn't at least ONE dumb person in there.

Frankly, I'm shocked that Elvenfris doesn't have any negative reviews, considering I see people badmouthing it all the time.

I found another just now:

Kyuss - Kyuss, 8 reviews at 98%.

This to me is the most shocking yet. To me this album is good, but no where near 98%, I probably wouldn't give it even a 90%.

Yeah, that is strange. It's a decent album and all but doesn't even touch Blues for the Red Sun.

"Blood Fire Death" is probably the winner, overall. 19 reviews and a 94% average? Even after that (pussy) 55%! And for a fucking good reason too! And "World Downfall" is impressive, too. If I remember right, eight of those reviews are either 99%'s or 100%'s.

Also, "The Spectre Within" has a 98% average with 6 reviews. Not many reviews, but hell yeah!

Sabbath Bloody Sabbath - [11 reviews, average 94%]
Sabotage - [11 reviews, average 95%]

Mmmm.

I'll do negatives for the crappy albums Black Sabbath did before Dio when I find the time. Been meaning to do so for years, but I can rarely bring myself to listening to that trash. Shameful waste of semi-decent Iommi-riffs they are.

Are you actually serious? :o Then I'll counter you with making the Black Sabbath streak of reviews I've been considering for a while, all the six first albums are 95%+ in my book.
