~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
all these splits need to be fixed. Someone in the mood to help me? I am not willing to do it alone... way too much work.
I talked with Nightgaunt on the matter and the I will quote his remark to my question on the issue on how to fix the releases:
| Nightgaunt wrote: | | [...]I would think that the best thing to do would be to re-add all splits with tracklists like this using the proper procedure, taking one's best guess as to the order that the participating bands perform in where necessary. My reasoning here is twofold. For one, the number of cases where no information of any kind is available as to the order the bands perform in is apt to be comparatively very small. Also, even if the new order should turn out to be incorrect, the future version of the site will make handling/modifying of splits easier/simpler. Bearing this in mind, splits with bands in the wrong order but that have been otherwise correctly added will be easier to fix in the future than those that have been left in the fractured/incomplete state, [...] |
-> [emphasis supplied]
It is of course best to do some investigation on each split album, especially as a lot of them are lacking of information like line-up, amount of copies etc. Good results have been achieved by contacting bands, labels or whatever migth be seen as a source of information.
There are also split albums that have reviews and need to be fixed.
- Split album = not all bands are in the MA
To be added this way:
Add new single release -> Split album -> List all tracks (by all participating bands) -> Specify which tracks are performed by which band in additional notes, like "Tracks 1-4 by band X, tracks 4-8 by band Y"
In case the split has more than one MA band, please use HTML code to add links to the entries. Please this example as a guideline:
http://www.metal-archives.com/release.php?id=205437
(from the additional notes)
Tracks 1-8: <a href='band.php?id=3540257258'>Long Suffering</a>
Tracks 9-28: <a href='band.php?id=3540257246'>Rehumanize</a>
Tracks 29-42: <b>Corpse Under Construction</b>
Tracks 43-53: <a href='band.php?id=49085'>Eternal Mystery</a>
(<b></b>; <u></u>; can also be used to emphasize the non-MA bands)
I really recommend to do it this way, because:
- easier access to other participating bands on the split
- bands that are not on this site could be easily identified.
- SPLIT = all bands are in the MA and added as every SPLIT would be added. IMPORTANT: Make sure the tracks are in the right order and do NOT under any circumstances add a tracklist in the additional notes in order to reflect the 'correct' listing; use a SPLIT ALBUM instead and use the HTML-code in order to add links to the band-sites.
- This split release is an exception. Do not attempt to add it in a similar way! It is impossible to do this.
- Cooperation albums are NO split albums.
- DVD / video might be difficult to add.. there have been errors recently. Please report them in this thread before adding them.
Again... help on fixing this mess would be really great. Questions should be asked in this thread and we can solve them then.
Please 'report' in this thread also the releases which have been fixed. I will remove them from the list then. _________________ If you find any typing errors or ironical comments, then you can keep them.
Seems like it's splits with incorrect track listing- tracks by one of the bands listed in the additional notes instead of the track listing, etc. _________________ trade list is here. |
What to do:
1. if not all tracks are available at the entry, then try to find them (google, label, contact etc.)
2. If the tracks are added to the profile, but are added wrongly, then make sure that the new entry will contain the right information; just because the counting of the tracks starts witn a 1 does not necessarily mean that their order is also this way; again... some research is necessary.
3. In case of a wrongly added split, it needs to be changed to a split album.
If more than one MA band appears on the release, then you can use this kind of coding in the additional notes to make it look good:
Tracks 1-8: <a href='band.php?id=3540257258'>Long Suffering</a>
Tracks 9-28: <a href='band.php?id=3540257246'>Rehumanize</a>
Tracks 29-42: Corpse Under Construction
Tracks 43-53: <a href='band.php?id=49085'>Eternal Mystery</a>
I will update the list this evening... please let me know if there are fixed ones so that the list will get shorter. Thanks again for any help. _________________ If you find any typing errors or ironical comments, then you can keep them.
From the search on the 'grind' band's sites I can say that some profiles are quite messed up and have a good deal of wrongly added releases. There was also one that had no tracklist left at all ... and also the cover was gone.
Has some started to fix some of the releases, yet? _________________ If you find any typing errors or ironical comments, then you can keep them.
I'm under 300 points away from Veteran status, I'm sure there might be a couple of these awry splits laying around for me to fix up by the time I get to 500.
Although missing covers don't need Veteran status to fix... I'll see what I can do. _________________
As the splits are fixed, if posters would kindly give the name of the band/release that they have properly re-added, this would allow mods to come along and delete the bad entries. _________________ The bizarre lattices were all around. You don't need to be a veteran to help. You can just re-add the split and then, as Nightgaunt wrote, let us know that the old entry can be deleted. |
Some splits need some delicate handling: split albums with more than two bands.
I like to draw everyones attention towards this way of fixing them:
http://www.metal-archives.com/release.php?id=205437
As the split album cannot provide the links a split generally does, with the use of HTML code it is possible to do it in a neat way:
(from the additional notes)
Tracks 1-8: <a href='band.php?id=3540257258'>Long Suffering</a>
Tracks 9-28: <a href='band.php?id=3540257246'>Rehumanize</a>
I have a question: let's take, for example, this release - http://www.metal-archives.com/release.php?id=132674
If I got it right, in order to fix it I should: Add new release -> Split album -> List all tracks (by all participating bands) -> Specify which tracks are performed by which band in additional notes, like "Tracks 1-4 by band X, tracks 4-8 by band Y". Right? |
All bands in the MA-> SPLIT
NOT all bands in the MA -> SPLIT ALBUM
Please, before you start fixing the release, try to find the correct order of the tracks. _________________ If you find any typing errors or ironical comments, then you can keep them.
Thank you for the help on this issue.
There a good deal of releases which have the complete tracklist in the additional notes. These are the easy one. Harder to fix are those that have such an entry in the additional notes: only the tracks of X have been added. Such have I seen a lot of time.
This one would be an example on how to add HTML code to the additional notes:
Also an advice. If a split album does not have an explicit title, please name it this way: 'Band X / Band Y / Band Z'. If 4 or 5 bands participate a split, thus making the format too long, then simply put it '4-way split'. Don't use this format: 'Split with band X' or 'Split w/ band X'. The later case often happans when one of the participating bands is not in MA. A bad example is found here:
http://www.metal-archives.com/release.php?id=69820
Making the title 'Agathocles / Krush' looks better.
Please consider integrating it into common rules for editing split albums. |
please write reports on the releases that have been re-added and fixed.
Please make clear on the band's site which albums have been fixed; terms fixed/correct. Makes ti easier to differentiate them from the wrongly added ones.
When the old ones have been deleted by the mods, then I will take them from the list.
Two releases added to the list. They need to be re-added. _________________ If you find any typing errors or ironical comments, then you can keep them.
Hi, I can't help fixing because i don't have enough score, I just can send report. Anyway, the guidelines are good, but I continue to think that it would be a very useful information to add which music genre play the band that it's not in the archive. This may be useful, exspecially for the Grindcore splits, in two ways:
1. you can figure out which genre play the other band and why they aren't in the archive;
2. secondly, if the band that isn't in the archive is labeled as Grindcore, you can check if they are Metal enough to be added.
Take for example the Agathocles page. They have an inredible amount of splits, here you guess why the other band isn't in the archive http://www.metal-archives.com/release.php?id=206204 , here you don't any idea about what the other band play: http://www.metal-archives.com/release.php?id=67447
Maybe this can be implemented in Version 2.0 |
Did you also check the report-queue? I wrote all the requests for deletion there. _________________ If you find any typing errors or ironical comments, then you can keep them.
Huh? There are fifteen... the first five tracks are from the other band.
Thanks for cleaning the reports. Future ones will be posted here.
and as we are currently fixing so many releases, I would like to ask if this one should be revamped, too:
http://www.metal-archives.com/release.php?id=75464
see here:
http://eyeless666.interfree.it/disco.htm
it is a four track 7". The "Disc 1" in the submitted releases suggests that it had been been added as a multiple CD release. Can this be fixed somehow? _________________ If you find any typing errors or ironical comments, then you can keep them.
I had to delete all tracks and then re-add them. |
