My first, 12/87.
Image

Aggressive Metal #3, 2/88, three issues before I changed the name to Screams from the Gutter.
Image

Then #41, my third from last issue in Feb/Mar '96. Denis Gulby of Sentinel Steel Records provided the artwork.

And one in my pictures folder at the moment:

Kick Ass Monthly. R.I.P. Bob Muldowney 11/5/07 - 44 years old.

Shit, that's pretty professional. I'm still glad he ended up with his present career, though. :)

Denis was actually doing some work for DC comics at the time, though I don't really remember what it was.

I love stuff like this. It just brings another era back with one picture. If anybody has anymore, I'd love to see them. An early-mid '90s one would be cool, covering black metal. Slayer mag is probably the only one I know. :(

Damn... Doro was really frickin HOT back in the day. She's still very good looking today too.

I also keep all of my magazines as well. I don't throw any of them out. Someday my kids will read them, and I will be able to reminese about the bands of my day.

Awesome stuff. It's funny looking at the bands, many of them have not stood the test of time. keep it coming if you've got anymore.

Finally! I was just about to make a thread to ask for classic underground metal mags!

http://www.operationphoenixrecords.com/

This is the best I could find, all you hardcore punk fans MUST check it out. There are Maximum Rock'n'roll issues from 1982-1988 the true hardcore bible for the golden years of the era. True, many writers on that magazine sound like snobby liberal fascists and the way they whine about metal is pathetic (from 82-84 they think Metal is about greedy people wanting to make sexist music, and when Metallica got big they whine that Metal is just mindless noise), but the whole magazine still gives an incredible insight on the superb era with millions of record reviews, interviews (Discharge, Kaaos, SS Decontrol, Negazione, Anti Cimex, Amebix, D.Y.S. etc) After 1985 more metal insight is put in the magazine, check out Pusheads Speedcore article in the Issue 22.

Also check out Suburban Voice few selections. The writers are less controlling than the ones on MRR AND have a good knowledge on true Metal. Check out the Blugeoned Ear section in each issue for pretty good short reviews on some (now) classics and more obscure records.

In the meantime I will check out what is here.

More coming. Had to a) dig out the zines from the attic and b) the scanner is at work.

Image

Moribund #2 (US-IA), winter/fall '92
Image

Inner Source #1 (US-IL) - no date, but sometime in early/mid '90s.
Image

Petrified zine #3 (US-FL) - same guy with Fullmoon Productions - '94
Image

DBN zine #3 (US-FL) - '90

And not to change the subject, but I was thrilled to pull out the Creem magazine that changed my perception of metal (and thought I had lost), the April '84 issue, with a whole section on underground/independent metal. It was my aunt's and she had just gotten the thing like a week or two beforehand. It included the first ever and greatest Slayer picture I ever dropped a jaw to, quite impressionable for someone who just turned 14 at that time.

And in case you were reading the Slayer blurb in the corner...

If anyone has any scans of any older issues of Slayer mag, that would be great. I don't have a whole lot of zines but I do have a few really good ones like Petrified and a few others, mostly from the mid 90's.

Propaganda #14 (US-NY) - '90.
Image

Profusion #1 (Canada) - late '80s.

Ripping Headaches #8 (US-FL), but they did have an editor/reviewer in France. March 1989
Image

How about some that aren't in North America?

Dementia zine #1 (France) - March 1995
Image

Mortal Noise #1 (Poland) - 1993. Too bad I can't read a word of it.
Image

MorticiaNumskull #6 (Netherlands) - 1994. Mortician zine and Numskull zine joined forces to create one mag.
Image

Master of Brutality #7 (Holland) - 1996
Image

Desaster #1 (Germany) - summer 1990. One of the more pro-looking indie zines out at the time. Can't read this one either.

A few more before the weekend. Since the scanner's at my job, this'll be it 'til Tuesday.

The lovingly titled Headfucker #3 (Italy) - a yearly zine, 1995

The award for most breathtaking cover goes to Baphomet #12 (originally of Italy, then moved to Argentina) - 1995. One of the more interestingly written zines at the time.
Image

ZeitGeist #2 (Germany) - 1996
Image

Brutallica #1 (Bulgaria) - 10/96
Image

Decibels Storm #4 (France) - 1993. One of the more well-known and well-regarded of the time.
Image

Hammer of Damnation #4 (Finland) - winter 1993/94.

I LOVE that Slayer review! The focus is on everything (well almost) but the music - the 80'ties were an amazing and naive decade!
