No, not BDM, slam, monotonous breakdowns, deathcore, sludge, or mindless chugging of one note, but chugging main riffs that have a catchy pattern to them. And I want a thick meaty guitar tone. Palm-muted intervals are generally involved, but not absolutely required. Here are some examples in different genres.

Death metal:
Cannibal Corpse - Evisceration Plague

Bloodbath - Eaten

Insepulto - Religious Pedophile

Aeon - Aeons Black

Misery Index - Carrion Call

Thrash:
Slayer - Seven Faces

Carnal Forge - Inhuman

Overkill - Horrorscope

Overkill - Crystal Clear

Metallica - Sad But True

Groove:
Exhorder - Desecrator

Testament - Eyes of Wrath

Doom(?):
Celtic Frost - Procreation of the Wicked

Exhorder - Into The Void

Metalcore:
Heretic - Possession of the Soul

Thanks for your input.

Hmmm, well I'm not really astute on what makes a guitar riff sound a certain way from a technical standpoint, even though I did play for a little while, but that sound seems like something a lot of the stockholm bands achieved at times.

Would these count?

I love this track, how the riffs speed up and slow down:

Regurgitate--Hungry Are the Damned

https://youtu.be/DMSMM69tPPA

Grave--Hating Life

Entombed--Wolverine Blues

https://youtu.be/uNi0tsCU-6g

Unleashed--To Asgaard We Fly

Dismember--Sickening Art

Oh here we go, maybe a few of these as well:

Decapitated-Sphere's of Madness:

Broken Hope--I Am God

https://youtu.be/6CokfbhCXQ8

Autopsy--Gasping For Air

https://youtu.be/5JDrgvLtEbI

And though not quite the same, I even get a similar heavy groove feeling from Fudge Tunnel at times although they are far from death metal:

Grey:

And this great thick cover of Sunshine of your Love:

https://youtu.be/SssjYujaPCg

Eyehategod:

https://youtu.be/BWkJtCgMbTQ

Or Winter:

https://youtu.be/kRAkLqE_kVQ

https://youtu.be/dwUuVjJX1-0

I might have started to stray towards the end (especially the Fudge Tunnel and EHG), but Winter wear their Celtic Frost influence on their sleeves in those last 2 tracks, and back many years ago I got into Celtic Frost, Hellhammer, Entombed, Fudge Tunnel and Winter (EyehateGod also) all at the same time, and despite them all being different sorts of bands, felt a similar "chuggy" vibe at times.

They all have that super "thick" sound, though it's not quite the same as on some of the more complex shit like Decapitated.

Still wondering if I got the idea you were after as I love all this shit.

Cerebral Fix's "Middle Third (Monoculture)" from the "Bastards" album might fit the bill here.

Regurgitate--Hungry Are the Damned ...Only the intro

Grave--Hating Life ...Yes. But I already have most Grave

Entombed--Wolverine Blues ...Yes. Funny. I had this album years ago and don't remember this song.

Unleashed--To Asgaard We Fly ...No. The guitars are too thin.

Dismember--Sickening Art ...Yes. Not bad, but the rhythm pattern doesn't really hook me.

Decapitated-Sphere's of Madness: ...Yes. Already have this one. Guitars are a little thin though.

Broken Hope--I Am God ...Maybe. I'm not a Broken Hope fan, but this song does have a couple of riffs that fit the bill. The monotonous vocals are irritating though.

Autopsy--Gasping For Air ...No. I have that album ... or should say, just sold it to Decluttr. Guitars too thin.

Fudge Tunnel - Grey: ...Maybe. Not as heavy as I'm looking for, but I kind of like it anyway.

Fudge Tunnel - Sunshine of Your Love ...Yes. I've always considered that to be the first real metal song. FT heavied it up. Unforgettable riff. I like it ... even though they screwed up the end.

Eyehategod: ...No. Too sludge. Don't care for raspy or fuzzy guitar.

Winter: ...Can't tell. Maybe. Has a good Celtic Frost vibe. Horrible recording. Guitar buried, snare drum in your face. I'll have to see if there are better samples of these songs, especially the second one.

Thanks for the recs.

Hmmm, this might be more difficult than I thought. I get why you see this as a chugger, but for me there's something lacking. It doesn't have that Tom Warrior "Ugh" kick you in the balls death grunt feel to it. BTW, I have their first album. Thanks for the rec.

Here's another example of what I'm talking about.

Nails - Suum Cuique
Nails - Wide Open Wound

Sepsism - Internal Fermentation (track 6 starts at 15:30)

Magrudergrind - Lyrical Ammuntion for Scene Warfare

Cursed - Head of The Baptist

Sepsism - Internal Fermentation (track 6 starts at 15:30)
Intro fits the bill, but production is pretty shoddy.

Magrudergrind - Lyrical Ammuntion for Scene Warfare
Not bad, but leans a little toward too raspy Swedish Death Metal sound

Cursed - Head of The Baptist
Nope. Doesn't do it for me.

Thanks for the recs.

Here's a couple more chuggers I own ...
Darkapathy - Corpse Ritual
Facebreaker - Zombie Flesh Cult
