So far, nothing is known about the album except for the title, the release date, and the cover art. However, judging from the cover art, I think they'll be providing lyrics about both ancient and modern war history, which hasn't really been done before in the band's history. Also, the cover art hints towards songs about Greece and Japan, two countries which have only received one song before.

Sweet! I enjoyed Heroes a lot more than I thought I would (same goes for the band in general), so I'm looking forward to it. Mostly looking forward to the next tour of NA.

The most intriguing part of that cover is the winged Polish hussar. I really can't wait until the tracklist comes out. That's when the fun begins - trying to connect the song titles with history and guess the connections. The new lineup nailed it on Heroes so I have no doubts about the quality on this one. Clearly it's a concept on famous battles where one side was outnumbered. A whole album of 40:1 more or less.

A headlining American tour is most definitely a go for this one.

It will happen. They're one of the few power metal bands that has broken through in North America and they're pretty willing to tour here.

Looking forward to the album. I don't love any of their albums except for Coat of Arms, but I do enjoy all of them to some extent. They were a ton of fun last year at Wacken!

I'd guess based on the cover art that the songs will be based around heroics in the face of overwhelming odds. The Winged Hussars are famed for completely crushing vastly larger foes, and the greek hoplites were the best fighting force of the classical world when it came to fighting less organized and larger armies. Not sure what the samurai and modern soldiers represent, but I imagine there are several instances that could be used.

That's weird. I was thinking about Sabaton earlier and how I haven't listened to them much. New album on the horizon; maybe I'll give 'em another shot.

I loved Carolus Rex but I'm guessing much had to do with the subject at hand and that they lyrics were in Swedish. Much of the other stuff I've heard is just to cheesy, even for me. I will listen to this and give it a try however. The cover art is nice. According to the bands they wanted to depict warriors from different times that they will sing about on the album.

Carolus Rex is the best album Sabaton done. That album is amazing. Don't care for Sabaton outside that album aside for a few songs here and there. I listen to it in english of course, the swedish one? no chance, come on, Sabaton is a sing-a-long band. The concept helped a lot, yes.

Heroes was cool. I will listen to this one for sure.

Loved Heroes and Carolus so I'll get this one. Saw them open for Amon Amarth a couple years ago and at Wacken in 2013 and they were a fun live band so a tour would be great.

After only having a copy of Primo Victoria for the longest time, I finally got around to buying a copy of Carolus Rex a couple days ago. Curious to see how this one turns out.

Their last 2 albums were actually listenable in-full, so I'm led to believe they're getting better, and thus I'm looking forward to hearing this one.

Sounds like more Sabaton!

I like the band, but they have the same problem that a few other bands such as, say, Amon Amarth have. That is, when they already have a good number of albums under their belt that are very similar sounding, it's hard to get too excited about a new release because it's unlikely to offer anything beyond more of the same. Nonetheless I'll be sure to give it a listen.

This is interesting. I'm wondering if they'd get someone to do falsetto, or just straight Sabaton it. Either way, could be a sweet cover.

The song they posted is basically more of the same. Nothing too special. I really like the sound of the one they previewed at the end of the video though.

Terrible. They jump from lyrical theme to lyrical theme and just modify their stock formula slightly to fit the album's current historical focus. It's so thinly veiled it is insulting.

Yeah, that song is so plastic it might as well be a Dollar Store knock off of a Toys R Us toy. Awful. I used to like this band, they sounded pretty fresh on the early albums and Art of War had some good stuff on it, but damn, they haven't evolved at all. The overly polished sheen and the poppy drum beats and the familiar vocal refrains and layering - this is junk food music. The equivalent of going to McDonalds, but for listening to metal music. Utterly banal.

After listening to a few songs from this band, I'm starting to realize why every Sabaton fan I know is a teenage girl (no offense to them or Sabaton, I know nothing about this band). Is there a certain few albums from them that are actually really good? So far I haven't really found anything good.

I don't know which one's you've heard, but I've always thought Carolus Rex was pretty great start to finish. Other than that though they're pretty cookie cutter-y.

"The Lost Battalion" is a lot of fun, but "Blood of Bannockburn" suuuuuucks. Sounds like the album's gonna be hit-or-miss. As usual.

Feel the same way. Not a huge Sabaton fan, but I've been getting into them more lately, partially due to the insane catchiness of the former song.

http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/guitar ... s-sabaton/

Swedish metallers SABATON have parted ways with guitarist Thobbe Englund.

Thobbe will play his final gig with SABATON in August in the band's hometown of Falun, at the group's Sabaton Open Air festival, as part of a release party for SABATON's new album, "The Last Stand".

The band states: "We wish him nothing but success and good luck in the future, and we salute him for all the good years and the fantastic moments we shared both on and off the stage!"

Says Englund in a statement: "Today I have decided to announce my leave from SABATON. Why? …many may ask.

"There is this thing that I truly believe in, and that is that one should always follow the heart.

I have in recent years become more aware of what would make me feel real happiness and content, and that is to expand my own creativeness in combination with a somewhat stiller life, where I will not tour all year round at the speed of light.

"Unfortunately, as a consequence, I will not be able to meet all of you wonderful people out there, which is sad, and I'm really gonna miss you all.
But I will still be making music, of course, and as I am writing this I am making plans for the future.

"During the many years of touring with SABATON, we have become like brothers. Together with the best crew in the world, we've had a true blast and there is a bond between all of us that cannot be broken. Therefore I find no reason to be sentimental, because brothers and sisters are friends for life, and the future is bright!"

"The Last Stand" will be released on August 19 via Nuclear Blast. The follow-up to 2014's "Heroes" was once again produced by Peter Tägtgren (PAIN, LINDEMANN, HYPOCRISY) and it "marks a brand new chapter in SABATON history," according to a press release.

I'm a big Sabaton fan, but I have to wonder if the revolving door of band members is due to Broden. I think he's hilarious, but it seems like he controls the song writing process.

In regards to the two songs, I am disappointed in both. The lyrics for 'The Lost Battalion' look like they could be copy-pasted from any number of Sabaton songs. 'Blood of Bannockburn' actually sounds like a pop song. Considering I listen to a lot of poppy power metal ballads, I don't usually say that about songs. If the chorus teaser for 'The Last Stand' is anything to go by, there should be some better songs on the album.

Edit: Lion From the North on Carolus Rex sounds exactly like Coat of Arms. That's my only problem with that album.

Another new song alert! "Shiroyama"

OK, this one sounds better than "Blood of Bannockburn".

It's the best single they've released, but it's still boring.

Can someone explain to me how they have become so big? I keep seeing festivals line-ups with their logo higher than superior classic bands. I guess good marketing is underrated.
