After seeing the Super Bowl 50 halftime show last night, I felt that we need some actually talented bands to play in that show. Who would you like to see play in it? I'd like to see bands like Metallica, Rush, Foo Fighters, Deep Purple, and Van Halen play in it.

To be fair, Bruno Mars and Beyonce did okay. I liked their little trade-off and they can all dance pretty well, personally. Coldplay were less good but they seemed to get the crowd's attention, which is all that's really needed.

Asking a metal forum who they'd like to see at the Super Bowl probably isn't going to yield too many serious answers. I mean, I would like to see 1349 there and play a ferocious song or two from their Hellfire days, but that will literally never happen. ;)

I'd love it to be some pretentious avant-garde stuff like Laurie Anderson or Kayo Dot, just to see the incredulous look on the faces of the fans with their giant foam fingers wondering just what the fuck is going on.

Enochian Crescent with the former singer cutting himself. Or maybe Anal Blasphemy.

I would've watched the thing, but it came so damn late around here.

I don't really give a shit. I kinda like having some lame act do it since it gives you a nice break to get more snacks or go take a dump or whatever.

But in the spirit of the thread, Anal Cunt with a hologram Seth would be really great.

Should've had Matt Barlow sing the national anthem.

Since I'm listening to it now, Marduk opening with "Christraping Black Metal" and closing with "Night of the Long Knives."

As far as bands who are a realistic choice, definitely Metallica or Black Sabbath.

My ideal Super Bowl performance schedule: Sebastian Bach sings the anthem with a halftime performance by The Beatles featuring Jack and Meg White playing John and George's corpses like marionettes, plus Dave Chapelle dressed as Rick James

Marduk have a song called Night of the Long Knives? That's sick! The first Leiber story I ever read.

It's mostly boring crap until about 3 minutes in. Then they play one of the greatest black metal riffs ever. Then it goes back to mostly boring crap.

If Dio were still alive, then he'd make a kickass halftime show.

Powerwolf would be my choice. I feel like the grand setting would be very fitting of Powerwolf's bombast and epicness, it would just be awesome to watch the band perform in such an environment. On top of that, unlike a lot of other epic bands, they have a strong "fuck you!" attitude about it all that would benefit the experience in many ways :).

Corey Taylor doing solo-covers or Page and Plant are the two that immediately come to mind.

First off, it seems kinda silly to be complaining about Beyonce while exalting the Foo Fighters. They're both kinda boring musically, but they're both talented in the sense that they know what people want and are very skilled at delivering it. At least the Beyonce performance had some cool stuff going on with the whole Black Panther aesthetic.

Anyway, in the realms of totally unrealistic expectations, I'd like Matt Bower/Skullflower to play. It's totally impenetrable and totally brilliant musiic and it would make my day.

But in the realms of more realistic expectations, I wish institutions like the Superbowl would exalt some mainstream-alternative Pitchforkcore type music. Bands like Animal Collective and Bright Eyes are pretty accessible, and they're making music that's often quite emotionally stirring. I think it'd be nice if they used their massive influence to expose people to something they otherwise might not have discovered.

Creed. Can you honestly think of anyone more fitting for this sham of a show?
