Do they pick awful cities like Oakland and Baltimore because those are the only places with suitable venues, or do they do that deliberately as if to say, "if you were REALLY metal, you'll come down to these less than friendly cities anyway!"

It's probably the low cost of these venues that makes this possible, everything is expensive in Socal and the only comparably sized place around here is the Palladium which would probably cost 10 times as much to host for 3 days. It feels good that their economies do get boosted from these events, but goddamn do I wish this took place down here. Never been so uncomfortable in a neighborhood until I went to this year's CDF, seems like even if you kept to yourself you could get killed for nothing. Heard the same thing from people that went to MDF so there's that.

Hoping they can get a little bit of thrash on the lineup, variety would be nice. Maybe a final Nuclear Assault set

Just bought my 3-day pass. Been kicking myself daily for not going last year, so I'm changing that. It'll be my first metal fest and I'll probably be going by myself, so not gonna lie I'm a bit nervous. Just need to start saving up big time these next 5 months for the merchants and figure out a good hotel deal.

Staying with 3 friends (4 total) with a 2 bed room was about $160 last year but they raised the price by around 20 bucks, there's the Marriot 4 blocks up, and another one which is literally across the street from the new location. Don't know how much a smaller room is, and DO save up for the merch. I regret so much from all the stuff I missed out, including a Repugnant backpatch
