I'm looking for some good symphonic metal!

If you'd like to help me, keep in mind that:
- I DON'T like growl, actually I'm not ready for that, I don't like it. (Haggard :'[ )
- I usually prefere MALE voices (Random example: Eternal Tears of Sorrow - Sea of Whispers)
- I don't love symphonic-power metal, here are some exceptions:
* Blind Guardian (Age of Time, Ninth Wave)
* Sonata Arctica (The Days of Grays)
* Avantasia (Seven Angels, The Tower)
- I really like concept albums (Ayreon)
- I love classical music and I go crazy when I hear metal covers of classical music (Apocalyptica, Dark Moor)
- I love choirs (Ghost-Year Zero) and operatic voices (expecially male) (Charlemagne - The Bloody Verdict of Verden)

Well, I already knew Kamelot and I prefere Roy Khan (their previous singer); actually I am listening to Ghost Opera and it is pretty good, The Black Halo is next.
Uh, if you like Tommy Karevik, may I suggest you "The Theory of Everything", from Ayreon? He is the main character and he is amazing!

"Il Tempo degli Dei" (eheh, it is my first language) is really good; unfortunally there are some "industrial" elements. Gonna listen that album anyway, it seems really interesting. Thanks!

I really need to check out more of Ayreon and I also haven't listened to Khan-era Kamelot yet, but I recently picked up one of their early albums. Karevik is one of the more unique vocalists in power metal and he moshes during shows, so what's not to like?

Uh, may I suggest you "Rule The World", from Ghost Opera, or "Twisted Mind", from Avantasia's The Scarecrow? This one features Roy Khan and Tobias Sammet.

If you haven't heard The Black Halo, you haven't really heard what Kamelot are rightfully best known for. The three albums before that are all essential too, but TBH is basically their magnum opus and one of the best rock albums of the 2000s.

For this thread, OP, have you tried any of The Dogma or Aquaria's music? Great stuff.





Ashes to Ashes is a more unconventional band. They have a much darker sound. But you may like them:



Royal Hunt is a sort of symphonic rock band with spices of power metal here and there, but they've been around for ages and have always put out good stuff. Their new album is excellent:

Maybe Thaurorod? They had 3 vocalists but I recommend you listen to the first demos, since the other two are pretty bad.


I think his name is Vladimir Luppi or something, but he has a really great baritone voice.

Well well, thank you so much guys! I listened to every song you linked, here are some comments:
- Aquaria: I should listen that song one more time, it is not that easy... but I like it!
- The Dogma: they are from my country! I really liked that song, I cannot wait to listen one of their albums!
- Ashes to Ashes: here the sound, as you said, was much darker, and I didn't love it. But I did love that amazing choirs!
- Royal Hunt: they were probably the easiest to listen, anyway I really enjoyed them. There was a lot of Symphonic elements, here!
- Thaurorod: you are totally right, that voice is sssssso good (singer's name is Vladimir Lumi, I think he actually sings in Aberrant Vascular and Severnaja)! I am not sure it is symphonic, but I liked it anyway (even if there was some growl in the second song... If I'm right...)
- Fairyland: they were probably a bit too melodic. I like Dark Moor because of their classical covers, of their singer's voice and because some of their albums are not THAT melodical. Gonna listen something from Fairyland anyway, probably their latest album "Score to a New Beginning".

I'm not too familiar with Therion, but they have multiple vocalists (male/female).

Yeah Therion sound right up your street - the "purest essence" of symphonic metal, with barely any overt power metal influence. And lots of choirs!

Keldian are a band you could try: a little more power metalllish, but very smooth and not too "bouncy" or anything; they also have a very nice male vocalist and a strong smattering of choirs.

Ehy guys, thank you so much for your suggestions. I listened to them and here are my opinions...
- GALNERYUS: they use a lot of violins and I like that. Unfortunally I don't really like their singer's voice... but I'll listen to one of their albums anyway (probably Vetelgyus). I don't love J-Music, the only band that I actually like is Yousei Teikoku... uh, and Linked Horizon.
- Therion: eheh, I already know these guys, they are amazing! Vovin is probably their best album.
- Keldian: interesting. They are not exceptional or amazing, but they surely are interesting. Don't think I'll listen them again, they are not what I am looking for right now. Sorry!

Glad to see you came back, my friend! I listened those songs and here it is what I think about them.
- Dragonland: I already knew Dragonland and that song is definitely the best i have heard from them. Unfortunally it seems that they are way more "power" than "symphonic". I liked anyway some songs from their latest album... what's your favourite Dragonland's album?
- Ancient Bards: cool story, bro! This band sounds interesting, gonna listen more of their music!
- Forgotten Tales: I don't think they are symphonic... Anyway I didn't like it, sorry!
- Dreamtale: these guys are power metal too... but they sound pretty good. Probably, one day, I'll change my mind and I'll listen to them.
- Heavenly: I think even this band is power metal. It is way more interesting than Forgotten Tales, but actually I do not love this.
