Kenso - 麻酔part2

Quite possibly the most underrated prog rock band of all time. This is some really great stuff.

Trenchrot - Necronomic Warfare

The OSDM-revival isn't a competition, but Trenchrot win anyway. Fantastic, skull-crushing, Bolt-Thrower inspired goodness, with a beautiful closing outro. This is the kind of band I feel the need to endlessly recommend to people.

Steel Assassin "In Hellfire Forged"

I'm glad they re-recorded some of their old songs. I kinda wish "Cobra" was on this though.

Krisiun - Bloodshed

Finally got around to checking out this band, loving it so far, great atmosphere and some crushing percussive rhythms. Very much encouraged me to keep delving into their back catalogue

Mercyful Fate - Gypsy
Anyone else spinning DBtO in celebration of its 30th anniversary? 1:21 always gets me good. So fuckin' groovy!

Edit: Didn't see that MF-DBtO anniversary thread.

非知ノ知 - やんごとなき五月蠅
Just weird and massiv shit. Messed up experimental, jazzy, noisy stuff from Japan.

Just finished listening to (2014) Darkspace - Dark Space III I for the first time.
This band is quite solid!

Edguy - Two Out of Seven

This song is right, music journalism really is just bullshit. Catchy tune too.

Inquisition - Crush the Jewish Prophet

Really like how Dagon pronounces "Crush" in each chorus slightly differently - different emphasis.

The Contortionist - Language

The album is ok. They are really trying to be Deathcore Cynic. This is sort of like their deathcore equivalent to Traced in Air. I expect their four album is just gonna be spacy prog stuff.

Burzum - En Ring Til Aa Herske

Pretty sure this has become my favorite Burzum song, if I had to pick one.

Ketzer - To Each Saint His Candle

Fucking phenomenal black/thrash album. Every riff, note, vocal line etc are perfect. Plus is still has room for some lead induced atmosphere. Awesome :metal:

The first track of the new album. It is awesome! It sounds a little different from Darkspace III, but the atmosphere is good as always. Especially recommended on bright nights with lots of visible stars.

Is that what it was about? I thought it was just Sammet making more penis jokes, as he is wont to do.

Nope, it's a goofy rant about reviews in magazines. Obviously tongue in cheek, but he's said in interviews before how little he thinks of music journalism, and it's something I've come to agree with myself. Making a career out of arbitrary numerical ratings on others' creative work just seems kind of silly to me.

Electric Wizard - SadioWitch

It's... eh, it's not bad. Tone sounds like it's trying a little too hard, but it's quite distinct for it. More or less standard Electric Wizard fare otherwise; exactly what I was expecting. Enjoyable, but not enough to get me really excited.

I don't think that The Contortionist will ever release another album that I like again. Exoplanet was fantastic, and I haven't liked anything they've done since then.

Disgust - An Horrific End

Very aggressive, straight-forward crust from '93 with members of Discharge and Extreme Noise Terror. Very catchy track despite being utterly derivative. Kind of a pointless side-project given the pedigree involved but if you can't get enough d-beat, this is worth hearing.

Dissection - The Somberlain.

I normally prefer SotLB, but I heard a Youtube video where the uploader took the 3 acoustic tracks from the album and put them together. I figured I'd give the album a good listen again.

Deströyer 666 - Unchain the Wolves

Been a while since I listened to this, and I'm enjoying it more this time. Pretty consistently righteous.

Drowned - Letzter teilbarer Strahl

Idola Specus is pretty fuckin' awesome. Loving the production and the deep, doom-laden vocals proclaiming a sermon of darkness.

Enslaved - Frost (album)

I'm warming up to see them on Saturday with Wardruna. I just can't get into them... I love Norwegian black metal, I love viking metal, but Enslaved is just so boring. I appreciate their talent, but something about them does not appeal to me at all. EDIT: I'm not talking shit about them, just venting frustration over not understanding why I never got into any of their albums, when they should be ideal for me and my tastes.

I can't understand what's supposed to be so amazing about this band.

Did you try with (1994) Enslaved - Vikingligr Veldi?

Anubis Gate - Beyond Redemption

Even as over-long as this album can be, the songs are too good to ignore it.

edit: Oh man yeah, I forgot how awesome this album was.

I can't understand what's supposed to be so amazing about this band.

I've always thought very little, especially when stacked up against a better version of that sound like early Katharsis stuff, or just associated entities like Desaster and Absu. I do like Terror Abraxas quite a bit though, their EPs often seem better than their full-lengths.

Currently listening to Rise of the Imperial Hordes by Krieg (out of curiosity as the furor around Krieg/ Nachtmystium thickens), none too bad I suppose. Good, dire atmosphere for what is basically a faithful iteration of raw black metal. Superb choice of album cover too.

Rebellion - "Through the Fire"

It's just okay. Painkiller worship meets German heavy/power. Functional, but hardly novel.

Edguy - Space Police

I like this album way more than I did Age of the Joker. I think I also like it more than the latest Avantasia, which was a humongous disappointment. Just lots of great hooks everywhere, and only a few tracks feel extraneous.

Erebus Enthroned - Trisagion

Well. Wasn't too keen on the debut by the Watain inspired Aussie black metallers, but holy fuck, this new album seems to be spitting fire, and the artwork owns.. It has a burly, mean sound, which is still rough around the edges, but with loads of malevolent power. Might have to pick up a copy.

I have to check the full album but it sounds very promising, and the slightlty cleaner production helps a lot.

Cruel Force - Necromansy (Bathory Cover)
They did a great job in covering and even put in a bit of their own style. I found the covers of other bands rather weak, also Necromansy is one of my favorite Bathory songs.

Audio Kollaps - Freiheit und Lüge

A.K. is a top-five d-beat/crust band for me because they liberally add elements of death-grind, Teutonic thrash, and Bolt Thrower-esque groove to their tunes.
