Manilla Road "Crystal Logic"

Haven't played this in awhile. Great stuff, of course.

Bauhaus - Burning From The Inside album and Bela Lugosi's Dead EP
Pfft, Gothic Rock my ass... Bauhaus were always more on the experimental side of Postpunk in the vein of other bands like PIL or Cabaret Voltaire. I have no idea why they always get lumped in with that "Gothic"-thing.

Bethlehem - Dictius te necare
Always a terrific experience in true extremity. The vocals are a major turnoff for most people, but i love Rainer's performance on this album so much. For a native german speaker like me, the lyrics are a special bonus, even if they are a bit on the dadaistic side. And the Maiden-cover "Wo Adlers wagen" (Where Eagles Dare) on my edition is truly hilarious.

Kode9 - Memories Of The Future
One of the many examples of true Dubstep with meaning and message, miles away from idiots like Skrillex.

Oathbreaker - Origin

From the 'Maelstrom' album. A very good band.

YES! :wanker: Manilla Road is just too damn underrated for what they are.

Godflesh - Like Rats

Streetcleaner is heavier than almighty fuck. This is what everyone should listen to when they're wielding colossal sized axes and maces with malicious intent.

Fall Of Efrafa - Pity The Weak

I still have no idea how these guys got so many ideas from Watership Down, really. It's great though, even if the vocals are kinda boring, even for d-beat.

Graveland - Sons of Fire and Steel

When the drums kick in I get goosebumps every time. Very rich sound, too bad Graveland rarely gets this good. I've listen to all their (his) albums now, and Immortal Pride stands out to me as the best.

The Autumn Project - "Between the Smoke and Mirrors" from A Burning Light

This is very relaxing music. Been sitting back in my old man chair listening to this album and I'm now finding it difficult to even move.

Blut Aus Nord - The Work Which Transforms God [album]

Got through Memoria Vetusta I on the way to-and-from band-practice today, which has painted today as something as a Blut Aus Nord day - now moving on to this album, which is the one which introduced me to the band. It has perhaps one of my favourite album titles, and more than enough moments of shrill, frozen beauty to satisfy.

Iron Maiden - Killers

Whenever I might do something stupid, like lose my faith in heavy metal and start my career as a majority whip or something, there is this particular album out there ...

People talk about early Godflesh being fucking heavy but personally I find a band like P.H.O.B.O.S. far heavier and more suffocating when it comes to industrial metal. Was just never too sold on Godflesh, I guess.

NP: Graveland - Following the Voice of Blood

Been on a bit of a Graveland kick recently, and this album has definitely been a grower. The first few times I didn't think much of it, all the tracks felt like they blurred together, but now that I've spun it several more times it's come into focus a lot more. Pretty damn good album, definitely on par with Thousand Swords, I just wish "Raise the Swords" didn't have a totally useless final 3 minutes that drag on so pointlessly.

@raumr I know what you mean! Immortal Pride has a really nicely developed sound with good synth integration. The extended track lengths allow for a greater degree of immersion, it's nice. That's a really sweet battle interlude toward the end of "Sons of Fire and Steel," as well, kind of chilling with those ghoulish drums in the background.

@Ancient_Sorrow Good man  Memoria Vetusta...such a beautiful album. That majestic riff from "Territory of Witches..." has to be one of the most memorable I've ever heard.

Dead Can Dance - Amnesia

I love this album almost as much as the best in their back catalog (Within The Realm Of A Dying Sun, Spleen And Ideal, The Serpent's Egg), and Brendan Perry's voice is as wonderful as ever. Brings back great memories of when I saw them live last February in the glorious Sydney Opera House.

Black Majesty - Falling

This album just gets better and better each time I hear it. Competes with Silent Company for their best work.

Exceptionally good - I was listening to it a minute ago. In fact, I'm skimming through the Dark Descent bandcamp on the basis that just about everything they put out is top notch.

Currently checking out Lvcifyre - Night Sea Sorcery.

The atmosphere is good, and I'm pleasantly surprised. I wasn't sure if this was going to be one of those legitimately good underground bands, or one of those ones which the grand council of underground-metal-hipsters simply decided was flavour of the month. Fortunately, it's legitimately good stuff.

The Chasm - Manifest My Intervention

Man, I miss having time to listen to these guys' albums in one sitting. Way too hard to find time anymore. Great riffs and momentum though - in my top five favorite DM albums ever.

Elan - Empty Apparitions

This is the worst black metal song I've ever heard. There's experimental, and there's terrible. This band is the latter. If I owned a full album from this guy I would review it, but I only own this one song from a compilation.

I'm actually going to post a link to this because it's so bad. Here you go, have fun.

Nevermind, the song actually isn't on YouTube. Probably because no one liked it.

Twisted Tower Dire - Firebird

This album 'Netherworlds' may be my favorite from these guys. Not as immediately catchy as Crest of the Martyrs, but I really dig the production and overall vibe. Could have left off 'No One Left to Blame', however.

Fallujah - The Flesh Prevails
Have typically been turned off by Techincal Death Metal especially with Deathcore influences, but these guys are something special. Shout out to Autothrall's review on this album, you sparked my interest.

Solanum - Spheres of Time demo, 1998

Nice EP of atmospheric synth music arisen from the ashes of dungeon synth project Depressive Silence. Thanks to the Asmodian Coven blog for this.

Arghoslent - The Grenadier
I've always brushed these guys aside under the assumption that they're just a shitty bigot death metal band, but after finally being bored enough to check out Hornets, I really like some of these riffs. The lyrics can fuck off, (though admittedly they weren't as blatantly "I hate anyone that isn't as white as me" as I expected them to be) but there are melodies in some of these songs that give off a heavy Running Wild vibe. Definitely not gonna feel bad about torrenting their discography though..

Metalhead - Bringer of Evil

After listening to that dreadful new HammerFall album, I needed a heavy dose of real metal. This is actually fun stuff even if there's absolutely no originality. I like it.

I had previously only listened to their latest album, Voice of Steel, but this material is fantastic. I can see why Caladan Brood would be influenced by this material.

Every Alice album is great. Constrictor and Trash included!

NP: Sadus - Torture

I never jumped on the Sadus bandwagon for Swallowed In Black, but Illusions is awesome. Crazy fast ripping stuff.

The new album was a bit of a dud. Except for this song. Which is incredible.

Kreator - Reflection

Never understood the hate for Mille's vocals on this album, they're in my not so humble opinion the best from the entire Kreator discography, I mean, just how pissed can you sound?

I had never thought that CF are influenced by them, but maybe you have a point, I should check Goat Horns again, so many years without listening to it!

Crushed recommended these guys a short while ago for fans of the Canadian band Ephemer, just remembered to check them out. He hit the nail dead on the head. This is quite incredible stuff.

Blut Aus Nord/P.H.O.B.O.S. - Triunity

Only just in the middle of the BAN portion thus far. Definitely liking this a lot, some massive riffs going on here. I can't say I like the live drummer as much, partially due to the kinda flat production but also the inhuman quality of the programming was always a special part of their sound. I guess the switch was inevitable in a way, even if only for experimentation's sake, but I do hope they won't abandon the programmed work entirely from here on.

"Mirkwood Sonnet" by Thy Catafalque

Microcosmos is so much more immersive than anything else Thy Catafalque has made that I don't want to leave it behind sometimes. Such a beautiful atmosphere.
