Wait, Subricks finally all growd up? Nice man

NP: Appalachian Winter - Winterdance, can't sleep hoping that a bit of them will do the trick.

This Eternal Cold - Shadows Consume

Someone asked for the record this is on to be reviewed, so I'm listening to the first song on it. WOW. This is fucking horrible. Really crappy basement black metal mixed with even shittier basement deathcore.

Grand Magus - I Am The North

"The Wolf will riiiiiise
The end of liiiiiies
Corruption diiiiiiies
Freeeee foreverrrrr"

This chorus is pretty damn awesome to sing/howl along with. The leads rule, and the closing section is perfect. Fantastic song, off an album that while may not be my favourite, is still a wicked, rockin' one. God I love this band :metal:

Old Man's Child: Slaves of the World

not as bad as I was expecting like some people/reviews were letting on. It's def not as good as older works but I'm satisfied enough since I picked it up used.

Savatage - By The Grace of the Witch

Next to HotMK this is Savatage's best shit. This is a great song on a flawless ep.

Huh? I thought most people really liked that one. Galder lost me at Vermin, so I haven't given Slaves any listens yet.

I actually liked Vermin. Not as much as it's predecessor but it was solid. I have Slaves and might have listened to it twice. Maybe I should give it another go.

NP: Striker - Lethal Force

I really like this band. One of the better of the so called retro bands out there.

Gauntlet - 'til the Seasons Rush Away

Oh god, this album is fucking awesome. Really amazing Galneryus-influenced power metal. It helps that Yu-ta sounds a lot like Yama-B too.

^^ Yu-Ta has a pretty strong Tobias Sammet influence as well.

Skywings "Vice Versa"

Still digesting this - seems ok so far. But goddammit the drums sound like total ass.

Going old school death metal this morning with:

Cancer - Death shall rise
Disincarnate - Dreams of the carrion kind

and others to choose...

Kyuss - Wretch

Digging it. I haven't properly heard this in a long time. This was always one of my least-listened-to Kyuss albums. It really isn't too far off Blues For The Red Sun. The same tricks are here, just not as developed. It's got some really classic songs.

Desecresy - Chasmic Transcendence

I'm really enjoying this album. I really wish the guitars were better produced, but I guess that shortcoming allow the vocals to stand out more than it was on Doom Skeptron.

Kreator - When the Sun Burns Red

I started playing Coma Of Souls without purposely remembering this song is about climate change and the environment given that I just was on about it in another thread. That said, this album is pure awesomeness from beginning to end! It never gets old!

Sombres Forêts - Royaume De Glace

Compels a sense of the metaphysical significance and terrible beauty of nature. Thanks to Metantoine for introducing me to this band.

Deicide - Till Death Do Us Part

Believe it or not, I actually really prefer this record to Stench of Redemption and think it's their best since Insineratehymn. I appreciate the darker atmosphere and think Ralph's leads fit the music far more here than on Stench, where I think they sound really out of place. I also think the production sounds much, much better here than the more sterile sound on Stench. About the only large flaw I have with this album is some of the verses can get a bit bloated and long-winded, but it's not enough to subtract my enjoyment of the album.

Current playlist. A bit more death metal oriented than usual, some albums are getting spins after a long time in the shelf.

Dissection - Night's Blood

Fast and melodic, also kind of chaotic which I like. A very good start to an amazing album with a production that really clicks with me as well. I'm not actually very familiar with black metal (this can be categorized as melodic BM right?) but if there is more stuff like this it's really time for me to check it out.

Varathron - La Reine Noir

This song kicks massive ass. Basically Slayer crossed with sinister Greek brilliance.

Mortualia - The Sinister Shine

I really enjoy the repetitive, entrancing nature of the song, as well as the added layers that creep in here and there. However, I'm not a big fan of the "Wicked Witch of the West"-style vocals.

Bastard Chain - "Hellspawned" from Church of the Damned

This came in a death metal grab bag from Metallic Media that I received in the mail today. Enjoying this one quite a bit. If the rest of the albums I got are this good I will definitely be pleased. I will take a photo and post to album purchases thread when I don't feel so much like hammered ****

Dissection is a so unique band and their style has no comparison.

Back in the day, call their music black/death is the deal. Bands with similar (I repeat, just similar) sounds where Necrophobic of certain albums like Darkside and Bloodhymns, swedens Naglfar and their album Vittra, and the almighty Unanimated of masterpiece Ancient God Of Evil.

np:
Sepultura - Schizophrenia
ripping thrashing death from a distant past...
