I've heard that song referred to as the Big Bang of metal. It pretty much is.

Dismember has some seriously heavy stuff. Even their more recent stuff. Check out the track "Europa Burns". Crushing great riffs abound.

Also,

Katalepsy - E.N.D. (Evidence of Near Death). Devastating.

I'd go for the UK band CONAN.

Some people say that Crowbar is the heaviest band on earth. Well maybe on their combined weight, but in sound Conan beats the shit out of pretty much anything I've ever heard in my life.

To me listening Conan feels like getting crushed by whole galaxy while bulldozed with Jupiter. It is just so massive.

I've seen them live couple times and first time I saw them my legs went totally numb during first song. During second song I lost the feeling of my arms. The sound wave literally pushed me back. I couldn't feel completely my legs for a couple a days.

Same happened last time I saw them and well I can say that my bones also hurt for couple a days.

So yeah. I'd vote for Conan.

Metallica - For Whom The Bell Tolls, but played at 33rpm.

I honestly like it better this way. Sounds like Cathedral.

Conan

Thorr's Hammer (Heaviest female vocal doom band ever easily)

That riff on "Dopethrone" (the song) is probably one the heaviest moments in music history. One time I played it at a friend's house, cranked it up and the floor literally shook beneath us.

Misery - Godspeak (2nd song off of the album Revel in Blasphemy. Crushing from start to finish)
Illdisposed - Submit (Album. Heavy, muddy, sludgy)
Bathory - Blood, Fire, Death (Album. Released in 88'. The heaviest shit I'd heard)
Portal - Sludgy, muddy, crushy
Kataklysm - Their guitar tone is so strong but their early stuff is crazy heavy
Gojira - The Heaviest Matter of the Universe. That song will strip bark off of you
Sepultura - Roots. Listen to it or see it played live and you'll understand.

Is this 'shitty' list better now princess?

Nah, still pretty shitty!

To contribute to the thread, I'll add Horrors of the Black Museum, some very fucking heavy and slow French trad doom with only bass guitars.

I've always associated heaviness with a slow tempo; something that creates gravity, that crushes. I don't find fast and furious particularly "heavy." Here are some of my favourites:

Thor's Hammer - "Norge" - Like a wounded dinosaur looking for a place to die.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYWGiNLbmhs

Skepticism - "Pouring" - I never thought an organ could sound so monumentally spine-crushing, but toward the middle there it's just.....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=au-kLeo0jq4

Elite - "Taake" (could only find live version) - This is fast, but note the half-tempo in the chorus and the long, held "taaaakeee.." That's what makes it moving and heavy to me.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zcBGPcRgpI

Fallen - "Morphia" - The way the chorus is composed of nothing but the word "morphia," with the last syllable slowly descending note by note until you just can't believe how low his voice has gotten. The "extremity" of this and the crushing tempo give you chills. That's heaviness.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFP1jvqa6Iw

PS. Ah, I see someone beat me to Thor's Hammer.

I would also like to add Blood Red Throne's entire Altered Genesis album for it's brutal and massive palm mute rape.

Gotta agree with Claymanonfire about Nails. Unfortunately only a handful of songs are listenable (I'm not a fast grindcore fan). But when they nail it, well ...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4nV8WV-EDY

Also, I recently discovered this pummeling masterpiece of a song by Necropsy ...

Some guy just handed me this band's demo at a metal fest a few years ago and I wish I could thank him in person, that two-track CD was some of the most crushing Tech slam I've ever heard. 80,000 Dead is heavier than a Samoan mosh pit.

Because it's inherently "heavy"?

I wouldn't call that heavy, but thank you for posting this, I been looking for some really good Japanese power metal, and this really fits the bill, thanks.

The nastier, more vicious sides of industrialized metal often cranks out some of the heaviest material out there.

Nivathe is perhaps the heaviest thing I've heard:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3P05luwNDg

The Axis of Perdition's debut is insane:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_095Z9RSf4
The following EP, Physical Illucinations, reaches even higher degrees of devastation and is an all around better work, but it's fleshed out with a lot of dark ambient material, so it's not the full-on, non-stop assault of the debut.

While the are a very, very different band now, Anaal Nathrakh's debut album, The Codex Necro, is up their with earlier Axis in terms of aesthetics and sheer immensity:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eApC6GVJtHg

Finally, Gnaw Their Tongues' Eschatological Scatology is incredibly dense, with an atmosphere in the same area as the other three:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZLrwNjAddM
And even more intense (though less musical and much harder to get a handle of) is De Magia Veterum's Deification:

Lots of nominees that I'd already have chosen like Anaal Nathrakh and Dragged Into Sunlight have been named but a few who haven't IMO are:

Gore Lord (heavy and perverse as fuck)
Warhate (Insane War metal band that released very little material)
Rebvblika (insane Mexican death/black metal)
Axis of Advance (very heavy War metal)
Proclammation
Goat Penis

More that I can't think of at the moment.

Necrotic Mutation is pretty fucking heavy.

Come to think of it, this does remind of me 'Tomb' a little bit. That album and 'Butchered' were the benchmark of DM extremity at the time they were released.

It does sound like early Cannibal Corpse. The 80,000 dead was so nerdy it put a smile on my face. I think they've beaten Suffocation. I've heard people say Devourment, Mortician and Brodequin but I think they're horrible. Early Disgorge is better.

Although I agree with Conan being crushing and heavy as fuck, but I'd go with Bestial/War metal for being the heaviest.

bands like Bestial Warlust, Blasphemy, Revenge, Goatpenis, Sadistik Execution, Sarcofago, Truppensturm, Baphomets Horns, Damaar, Battalion, ...
