I'm compiling a list of band names, album titles, song names, labels, performer aliases and anything else related on my blog, I have a few but there must be loads more, I got about 30 from a Reddit post I made yesterday.
Can you guys think of any or prove/disprove anything on my current list?
They seem to just pop into my head fairly often and I want to have a static list of them.

Cool, now I finally understand Spawn of Possession's name.

What about the band Diabulus in Musica - do they claim that's unrelated to the Slayer album?

interesting list, some more popped up in my head:

Vomit The Soul (italian brutal death band, reference to Cannibal Corpse song)
Deathevokation (US old school death metal band, name is referring to a Dismember song)
Revel In Flesh (German osdm band, reference to an Entombed song)
Casketgarden (Hungarian melodic death metal band, name is referring to a Dismember song)
Necrophobic (Swedish blackened death metal band, name is assumed to be a reference to a Slayer song)

Wicked guys! I'll be adding anything suggested to the list.
There has to be loads of movie ones too, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Evil Dead etc inspired

One thing I hadn't considered until just now is names that are identical: Mortician, Manticore, Deranged etc

Vader named after the amp cabinets from memory?

Sunn o))) apparently based its name on the amplifier brand,

and since you mentioned Vader, it seems that the origin of the name 'Eagles of Death Metal' somehow relates to the death metal band Vader, must have been a really trippy stoner conversation....

I can add the following based on their respective MA pages:

Sepultura - The band name comes from a Portuguese translation of Motörhead's song "Dancing on Your Grave" which is "Dançando Na Sua Sepultura"
Hate Eternal - The band's name comes from a Ripping Corpse song that appeared on their 1992 promo EP.

Actually I could get quite a lot of results with a google search of name+"taken from" and name+"comes from" on the metal-archives domain. Most results are quite underground bands though, obviously seeing the massive amount of bands listed here. But you might want to try that to fuel your list ^^

If you want to add more obscure occurrences, we have a local band here in Belgium called Bloodrocuted, with a name obviously taken from the Deathklok song. I also came across a small Seattle-based label called Kreation Records, obviously based on the german band Kreator (even the logo has the same style). Funnily enough, they specialize in doom :D

The band I used to play in, Unholy Massacre, borrows the name from an Incantation song.

Sunn o))) [based on the amplifier brand] _yes this is true

Vader [named after the amp cabinets]- As the death metal band? No. Vader amps didn't exist back then. it was named after Darth Vader from star wars

The band's name was inspired by Darth Vader from the Star Wars film series
"Interview with Piotr Wiwczarek" (in Polish). Archived from the original on May 3, 2006. Retrieved January 27, 2006. "Piotr Wiwczarek: Ale, oczywiście, to Darth Vader był naszą inspiracją: postać tajemnicza, brutalna, pełna mroku, inteligentna, zgorzkniała, ale czasem romantyczna. Zupełnie jak muzyka, którą gramy."

Since fictional characters seem to be acceptable criteria:

Caladan Brood take their name from a warlord in the Malazan Book of the Fallen series
Aptorian Demon also take their name from the series
Aragorn from Lord of the Rings

And there's probably 50+ Lord of the Rings band names I'm forgetting right now

Also Into Darkness take their name from the Winter album

Shouldn't these be grouped under "Albums" (first one) and "Songs" (other two)? The OP is a tad confusing regarding this, sometimes things are sorted by what is named and sometimes by what they are named after (though mostly the latter).

Anyway, here's a couple. All have explanations in their additional notes as to their etymology:
http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Las ... 3540355131
http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Aft ... 3540348332

http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Zuckuss/2038
http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Ishimura/3540339117 (Although confident, I'm not entirely sure the name origin is correct here or if it was just taken straight from Japanese. You'd have to ask SLK since it's his band.)

And here's an interesting one, a linguistic pun based on Carcass:

Also, including obscure brutal death / grind bands might make the list grow too long.

I don't listen to Cesspool of Vermin, but I'd be surprised if their name was not a Cannibal Corpse reference. (And I advise not looking at their album cover.)

Black Beasts is probably named after the Bone Awl song, Black Beasts.

Fields of Rape is named after a Death in June song, too.

I don't know what your limits are in terms of what/how much material the band has released to count, but Funeralopolis a death/doom band from Switzerland is named after the Electric Wizard song.

Funeralopolis [After the EW song]
Iron Man [After the Sabbath song]
Dunkelheit [After Burzum song]

Sabbath Jam [Eyehategod song]

I think I'm doing this correctly? I'll come up with more.
