Strings and some electronic arrangements I like (but in small doses). Personally, I want to see power metal with a lot of electronic elements - like recent Blood Stain Child gone power metal. I've heard some doujin stuff do that though. There is some Russian band called Hammerforce that does this, but I thought they sucked.


Hell, album covers, band pictures, anything. I find bands via twitter and concert posters over there too. Sometimes I check out bands by who's talking to who over there (Japan's scene seems to be pretty tight). Most of this stuff I couldn't find on mp3 even if I wanted to, so I've been buying stuff based on very little to go on - for the most part, I've been pretty lucky so far.


hehe I could namedrop stuff like crazy But yeah, it sucks how expensive shit is over there. I use HMV Japan for larger orders, and places like S.A. Music or Disk Heaven for smaller orders.

Their scene seems pretty healthy at the moment. There's a LOT of good up and coming bands, plus some ones from the mid 00's resurfacing and releasing good albums: eg, Longinus, Prophesia, etc

This will pass most people by, mainly due to the language barrier, Engrish/bad accents, and I find a lot of this stuff has a pretty high learning curve. Internationally speaking, I think Japan's scene will always be a niche market (yet it manages to be completely self-sustaining).


Kizuna was the first song that hooked me, New Legend was the second. I think I like Everlasting a bit more than that one now though. I can't wait for their older stuff to arrive in the mail, I should've bought those aeons ago!


Things seem so weird over there, I wonder if things over here are going to start to seem really boring? Like, they put a pretty strong emphasis on presentation over there, whereas over here its normally pretty bland or non-existent. Like, I've always had a tendency towards weird/experimental shit, and I think I'm getting my ass handed back to me on a platter haha

I've found a lot of power metal over there (esp. in the doujin camp) that's really fucking weird. And it doesn't sound forced either - over here, such things would sound totally forced, over there they don't even break a sweat. In fact, it sounds rather genuine/endearing.


"Chronostrings" I can't wait for (my next uber-priority). The album cover is really neat. Then again, I like power metal album covers over there a lot more than the crap over here.


Indeed, one of my favorites by them. That song (along with some of Light Bringer's stuff) may have turned me on to the bass guitar. The bass/guitar tapping solo is insane, plus I like how the drumming goes along with Syu's guitars perfectly. Actually, Junichi is pretty underrated, IMO - he wastes most power metal drummers. Mind you, a side of me would rather put Galneryus in prog metal than power metal.
