Well, the idea was to scare(kill, decapitate) them, but if they laugh it could work as well. :D .

I am sure me wearing tights would have the desired effect

Nokturnal Mortum - Ukraine

Dying to hear the new album

Manilla Road - Gates Of Fire

So many wicked tunes on this album. Haven't heard the middle trilogy in a while. I'm keen to know how the length of it makes me feel after all this time.

Aosoth - III-2

About to pull the trigger on either this album or Arrow In Heart, and I'm having a tough time deciding which one to get, as they're both fucking amazing, dissonant, violent and atmospheric. Choices, choices...

Sounds like it's time for the only logical move-- heads or tails.

(2012) Lunar Aurora - Hoagascht is nice for me.

This song is just...so heavy, awesome track from the best album of these guys.

I could only get into (2012) Gojira - L'Enfant Sauvage.

Arrow In Heart is it!

Blut Aus Nord - Liber I -II

More savage than the Sect(s) trilogy, but no less atmospheric and twisted. Nice to have this on cd finally too.

Not sure but if they do it will be Godly. To be honest I love all their stuff except To the Gates Of Blasphemous Fire.

The Finnish black metal sound is a very fascinating one, especially since these guys claimed to have hated the Norwegian scene

Corpsegrinder - Consumed by the Underworld

Been looking for this demo for ages. Finally found it. Pretty good old school death metal.

Dead Congregation- ' Morbid Paroxysm'..
finally got around to this track, and i am seriously blown away..
Spoiler: show
Morbid paroxysm leads to despair
Insanity springs eternal
Lucidity fades to its demise...

Disintegration of the soul
To the existential void

Sanity ordains me not
A servant of paramount chaos
On perpetual orbit in the cosmos

Ocean Machine - Death Of Music

So powerful, and emotional from ol 'eavy Devy. A seriously inspired and monstrously evocative track. As an album, Biomech is pretty much perfect.

Dark Tranquillity - Yesterworld

Always been a big fan of this band, new and old. This was one of their best early songs

Thevetat - Transmigration of Souls

Picked up their demo, Disease to Divide, on a whim based on the cover art and later discovered the connection to Ceremonium via Thomas Pioli. It's definitely solid death metal, albiet nothing that hasn't been heard before. Will be on the look out for whatever the band happens to put out in the future.

Black Sabbath - Anno Mundi

By far the best song of the Tony Martin era. From the peaceful intro to the grooving verses to the AMAZIG OVER-THE-TOP chorus. The little interlude is put right in between to sort of cut down the emotional intensity before it goes back to the madness this tune possesses. Flawless in every possible way.

Nargaroth - A Whisper Underneath The Bark Of Old Trees

This song is so beautiful. From around 4:30 until the end... Oh, those synth parts that come in! It's the type of song you can immerse yourself into, and just drift away.

Toxik - Think This

First time hearing this-- awesome intro, though it was ruined by that whole 'mingling voices' gig it had going toward the end. Unfortunately, the rest of the song was an absolute fucking disappointment.

Both Toxik albums were underwhelming to me as well, although the Think This title track is my favorite of theirs.

Corum - Cry for Help

Completely legitimate prog/thrash from 2000. A trio with a guitarist that almost performs the occasional keys and shares singing duties with the bassist, and at their best they almost sound like a thrash metal Sparks or something. This is one of more "normal" tech-thrash songs, but still nice and crunchy. People with interest in that kind of thrash (especially early 90's Mekong Delta and Thought Industry) should give them a shot.

not entirely awful for a Deathcore band,i've definately heard worse than this, this shit is groovy and doesn't get lost in neverending change of riff patterns.

That would also be my preferred format (we're posting on a metal forum aren't we?), but I am fairly partial to other instruments like piano or saxophone as well.

Strings and some electronic arrangements I like (but in small doses). Personally, I want to see power metal with a lot of electronic elements - like recent Blood Stain Child gone power metal. I've heard some doujin stuff do that though. There is some Russian band called Hammerforce that does this, but I thought they sucked.

Quote:
That's also been my experience with most of my favorite bands. Those youtube thumbnails call to me or something.

Hell, album covers, band pictures, anything. I find bands via twitter and concert posters over there too. Sometimes I check out bands by who's talking to who over there (Japan's scene seems to be pretty tight). Most of this stuff I couldn't find on mp3 even if I wanted to, so I've been buying stuff based on very little to go on - for the most part, I've been pretty lucky so far.

Quote:
You're killing me over here man. Thanks to you, I've got like 5-10 more artists I want to check out, but I can't just blow a bunch of money on albums like I really want to.

hehe I could namedrop stuff like crazy :P But yeah, it sucks how expensive shit is over there. I use HMV Japan for larger orders, and places like S.A. Music or Disk Heaven for smaller orders.

Their scene seems pretty healthy at the moment. There's a LOT of good up and coming bands, plus some ones from the mid 00's resurfacing and releasing good albums: eg, Longinus, Prophesia, etc

This will pass most people by, mainly due to the language barrier, Engrish/bad accents, and I find a lot of this stuff has a pretty high learning curve. Internationally speaking, I think Japan's scene will always be a niche market (yet it manages to be completely self-sustaining).

Quote:
New Legend was the first song by Galneryus that I heard (and it's still one of my favorites, I bought One for All – All for One based off of just that one PV; definitely a good buy) and I certainly wasn't expecting those vocals. Would be interesting to hear.

Kizuna was the first song that hooked me, New Legend was the second. I think I like Everlasting a bit more than that one now though. I can't wait for their older stuff to arrive in the mail, I should've bought those aeons ago!

Quote:
I think it's because the general picture of a handsome male is more on the feminine, slender side as opposed to the usual “manly, man” picture you have over here in the west. So counter-culture (or ex-counter-culture anyway) stuff sort of pushed that further. But yeah, you really get used to it after awhile and it stops being surprising.

Things seem so weird over there, I wonder if things over here are going to start to seem really boring? Like, they put a pretty strong emphasis on presentation over there, whereas over here its normally pretty bland or non-existent. Like, I've always had a tendency towards weird/experimental shit, and I think I'm getting my ass handed back to me on a platter haha

I've found a lot of power metal over there (esp. in the doujin camp) that's really fucking weird. And it doesn't sound forced either - over here, such things would sound totally forced, over there they don't even break a sweat. In fact, it sounds rather genuine/endearing.

Quote:
Well, that's another to add to my list. Looks like I'll be into Japanese power metal for at least another year. Looks like they have a new album coming up soon as well. I really like that last track too; it's quite interesting.

"Chronostrings" I can't wait for (my next uber-priority). The album cover is really neat. Then again, I like power metal album covers over there a lot more than the crap over here.

Quote:
NP: Galneryus – Destiny

This is the epic on Resurrection, and it's nothing short of amazing. God, that middle section.

Indeed, one of my favorites by them. That song (along with some of Light Bringer's stuff) may have turned me on to the bass guitar. The bass/guitar tapping solo is insane, plus I like how the drumming goes along with Syu's guitars perfectly. Actually, Junichi is pretty underrated, IMO - he wastes most power metal drummers. Mind you, a side of me would rather put Galneryus in prog metal than power metal.

My Material Season "Awaking to the Piano Dramatic"

Pretty nice melodeath - I think I prefer this to their first 2 albums.

The Falll of Every Season - Amends

Very few vocalists can match this guy's cleans and growling combo.
He's also a very good musician, competent in both metal and the soft emotional stuff
