I mean what kind of stuff do you think he used? obviously a lot of treble..reverb..but I really like how it sounds, it gets to me. I want to recreate it. Where would you start?

Sounds like a really cheap combo with the bass turned all the way down. there is a lot of noise in the recording. ton of fuzz and white buzz that's due to both the amp and how it was miced.

From my experience, the buzzsaw sound is created using 2 sources of distortion (perhaps pedal+amp or pedal+pedal). Just mess with the settings until you find the sound you like. As for the reverb, I agree with the guy that posted above me, that comes from the room/mic placement/how it was recorded, but you can obviously also add reverb with a pedal, or later on your computer.

The BOSS MT-2 Metal Zone is actually pretty good for this kind of BM tone. A lot of mid and high end combined with fairly over the top distortion, so it creates a similar buzzsaw sort of tone. I think it's probably about the only thing the Metal Zone is good for...

That's not true, I can get a decent enough traditional thrash/DM tone out of the MT-2 with some tweaking. It's just that it's overall voicing tends to to lend itself to this dsbm foshizz.

I also use the MT-2, and while you can get a lot of distortion/fuzz, you really need another source for the buzzsaw sound. I combine it with a line-6 because that's all i have, but if I put the drive just halfway up on both i get the buzzsaw.

I'm really thinking there are some single coils involved. Guitar could be anything really, anything from a single coil Strat to a Mustang or even some cheap hollow body.

It's an awesome tone, could it be more than one guitar overdubbed?

This may sound really stupid, but if you're not plugging your guitar straight to your computer, it may be useful to keep a longer distance than usual between the amp and the recorder.

Sounds like it has two different kind guitars. One has more natural sounds and is "mixed" more down. Most likely they recorded drums in their rehearsalplace and guitar playing can be heard through that channel. After that they recorded one or two additional guitars through distortionpedal & line-in. By that one can get inhuman sound (line-in sound) where you can hear melodies (rehearsalplace sound with cabin)

And important thing is that overall recording has really thick brickwall compression that boost guitars.

Thats my theory. That youtube has really low soundquality so cant be sure. But thats how many classic demo recordings has been built.
