Here's a simple question: How best to paint on black denim?

I used a stencil and acrylic paint on mine.

Thanks. That's great, I actually have some acrylic paint lying around. Got a little free space between the two large backpatches and wanted to get a bit creative there. Maybe a pair of evil looking eyes or claws or something, but I don't have a good template yet.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Inhumanist, why don't you put a row of buttons instead? I dunno about painting claws or evil eyes, if you can pull it off sure why not. But if it fails, might ruin it.

I'm in the process of collecting patches. I hope to have the metal-vest ready in 2-3 months. I have a question. It's a rather simple one (I know it's got to do with individual preference), but should I go in for a blue or a black sleeveless jacket?

I think I can pull it off, actually. Probably gonna use stencils anyway, but what I lack is a template. I'm wondering if anybody knows any cool motifs from album covers etc. that could look good on my kutte. I've never seen anybody with buttons on the back of their jacket... doesn't seem like such a great idea. Rivets are an option, but only if all else fails.

Personally I think black vests generally look better except when you're going for that typical thrasher or retro look.

Okay apologies. Since I'm new to this, my metal-vest lingo is really poor. I think I meant rivets, those tiny metallic things (buttons?). What you are referring to as buttons might be badges in my case (am I still doing it wrong? haha) :/ Never mind.

Regarding stencils, check out some punk websites. I used to have friends who'd stencil the shit out of everything and make tshirts etc. You can perhaps take some cues from there.

Yeah, I'm more inclined towards a black vest too.

I never know how to make the final stroke on such projects, but I think I'm pretty much done now. Still need to add the wires attached to his face though. The idea is to make them with actual thread rather than paint them on.

Does anyone know of a good way to remove glue from a patch? I've had bad luck in the past with iron on patches and would prefer to sew them on. I heard acetone might get it off but i wondered if anyone here has tried it?

Hey guys, here's my vest in progress. Probably not the most amazing thing to look at an unfinished vest, but I have 2 Q's for you guys.
1st: Do the patches on my vest look small or is it just my vest envy clouding my vision? The vest itself is 25 inches tall x 21 wide (For scale) and the Begotten patch (My biggest) above Anti-You is 4 inches x 3 and a bit. They're not big bands so I guess the size of the patches is relative (Ha). I have only ordered from one record distro so far (Depressive Illusions), so that could be why, considering a small label might not be able to afford larger ones.
2nd: Do any of you have problems with the button up part of your vest curling outwards, henceforth causing your front shoulder patches to get hidden? I've been trying to pin-point why my collar and button up part keeps covering my Woods and Varg patch, and I think it has something to do with both the broadness of the shoulders being... well, not that broad, and the shallow indent where the button up meets the collar (Like the lapel, forgive my lack of proper terminology)

Bonus points if you can guess where I bought my initial vest without googling the label. I have a weak spot for their dyed denim products, but I definitely don't enjoy the other crap they sell. /shame

Aye, and the Annorkoth/Framtid patches aren't sewed yet, as I only just discovered I liked Framtid. (Distro sent me a random patch for my free one when I didn't specify)

I only saw two individuals with a red vest. One is you, and the other was fucking Gylve Nagell, so kudos for that. It looks cool and original.

Been slowly working on a second vest recently - plenty more patches to go, but it's finally reached a "critical" level where I can wear it without it looking a bit bald. Going to see about removing the few yellow smudges from the stencilling process too, when I get the chance.

I'm really pleased with how they turned out - it's synthetic velvet. Was worried it might look a bit "SS Officer" but it seems to be all right.

I spent months searching for a used black jacket in my size, fucking impossible to find so I bought a shitty cheap light one and dyed it. In the light you can tell it has a blue tint but I actually kind of like that.

Probably not going to add too much to it, if anything. I like simple with clean lines. Might make another one that's a bit messier eventually.

Damn, this is awesome. Well done, dude! It's simple yet very nice, are you gonna add more patches? I have so many patches but I'm not sure if I want a packed vest, might do two...

I've put a few more on since I put those pictures up, might upload a new picture of the back later today when I get home. Likewise, I've managed to hide the ugly yellow smudges around from where I accidentally got the fabric-paint smeared, which I'm very pleased about. A few of the studs have fallen out lately, but I'm going to replace them soon.

There's room for a couple more patches still - I initially wanted to put some more on the front, but I don't want to cover the red-velvet at all now, unless I change my mind later.

EDIT: Here it is;

Anyone ever patched up a workshirt or something similar? I have this shirt I wear as part of my business casual attire at work but I realized it might make a pretty badass substitute for a vest. It's like one of those safari shirts where it's got sleeves meant to be rolled up, pockets on the front, epaulets, etc. I think it'd look pretty sweet with patches so I might do that.

That's basically what my vest started as before I tore off the sleeves. It works Well I think but you could even patch a cotton T-shirt like my brother did. I would just recomend that if you don't have the greatest sowing skills that you take it to a tailor and have them patch it up so they are on tight considering you might have to wash it.

I own a patch with that logo too, but some day I realized all my favorite Enslaved albums use this one instead. I don't think there are patches of it though.
