Har har, nope. I do not have an OKCupid account, nor do I find any use in online dating sites since nothing (good) usually ever comes from them I've found.

You tend to get out of that site what you put into it. Some cities are better than others, but (as a guy) if you apply yourself and send lots of messages and optimize your profile to get a lot of exposure to high matches, it's not hard to get dates. I have used it and got a steady stream of dates. I think the trouble is that guys go into it not expecting it to require work, which it does. It is easy to be disheartened because things are stacked against you for various reasons (more men than women on the site, lots of creeps harassing women and poisoning the atmosphere) but that's the price to pay for being able to look for love in the comfort of your home.

As for meeting people through those sites that will become real relationships? I dunno. It seems to be as likely as it is with any other group of strangers you meet for what are essentially blind dates. Bars, dating sites; doesn't seem that different to me.

So what did you good gentlemen (and fine ladies, of course) do for the Superbowl? I went to my friend's apartment, and about ten people came over. We spent about $100 on wings and chips (would have been more, but originally it was only going to be 4 of us), drank a lot of beer and had a hookah going the whole time. Fun time, even if it was the least tense game ever. Some amazing plays by the Seahawks, but not the most interesting game in the end. Peyton Manning must be in a pretty foul mood right now...

I rolled up a character for a d20 modern campaign during the entire duration of the super bowl. Nobody else can top the nerdiness of that shit, so don't even try.

Unfortunately JS was right in that your location has a pretty hefty influence on how successful you'll be. My mom tried a few dating sites after she and my dad divorced, but, because she was living in a rural area (she and my dad had moved there from a large city after getting married, and she kept the house) she didn't have much luck - the kind of people who were single and in their 50s in that isolated an area tended to not have a lot going for them, to say the least.

I served as a designated driver for a family friend. Dude is 55 but coolest guy ever when he is drunk. Big laughs I tell you, big laughs. Plus I kept a drunk off the road so I did my good deed for the day.

I met a number of gf thru Irc, msn and other sites (I used Netlog which was very successful both for gfs and friends). Location was never a problem. We managed to meet both on my city or hers even if it was pretty far (one of them lived 700 km at south and we traveled back and forth). Of course, unless one moves out near the other that shit won't last much.

I can say that time was pretty fun. I knew tons of places and people and did many awesome things. I recommend to try it, it's easier than it looks to meet someone and to have fun. Something that was amusing was the quantity of really hot and smart girls using such sites. Hell, one of my gfs I knew that way was a model who was into death and black metal. It was the perfect combo for starters.

On the whole online thing- met my wife online. Engaged within two and a bit months, married within 6 (exactly six, as it turns out) months, 14 months after that no regrets whatsoever. Ahah a hookah isn't the same as a hooker... A hookah is a wonderful device you can use to ingest all sorts of drugs, herbs, and other sorts of items that will become extremely carcinogenic. I don't recommend using it frequently because on the scale of carcinogens, holy fuck is it bad. Hookahs are a part of Middle Eastern culture that has become popular in the West due to soldiers picking up this tradition and also because Arabic cafes are becoming more popular. And Arabic cafes that are generally worth going to are full of smoke from hookahs, like a smog cloud.

Online dating was more or less fun for me, in the end. I dated a girl from OKC for a while, but that didn't turn out too well. I met some interesting people and had some good times, but I ended up snaggin' a friend of a friend that I'm with currently. I know that if/when this girl and I split, I'll probably fire the old profiles right back up, but overall I enjoy meeting ladies the old-fashioned way. Especially living in a college town and being college age.
