^That was great. Reminds me of Oroku.

I'd like hardcore in the vein of Terror, but without the whole "look how fucking hardcore we are you guys" sort of lyrics.

The Gun Club has that bluesy punk thing going on at times.

Seizures wasn't bad at all.

If any of you are into Kickback, there's a new Kickback / Vomir 7" available from GSR distro. Pretty interesting match-up...

Can someone rec me some good post-punk albums?

I already know and love:

Death in June - Till the Living Flesh is Burned
Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures/Closer
Beastmilk - Everything (not too sure if this is post-punk)
Some Bauhaus tracks

I haven't been diving into this genre a lot yet, so obvious recs are welcome!

I recommend the Japanese band A.G.E. and their album "Exploding Insanity" which came out in 1999 to anyone looking for a unique metalpunk/crust band that incorporates elements of black metal into their sound. Oh, and did I mention that they have songs that go for 10+ minutes?!

Just get Killing Joke's entire late 70's and 80's output, minus the abomination that was Open the Gates. Seriosly, its possibly the most timeless influential haunting post-punk ever put to tape.

Also, try the Cure. When they are on, they are ON.

And if you wanna move alittle out of the darkness, yet still feel mopey try the rather brilliant The Chameleons.

Check out Ceremony's latest album, "Zoo". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RWgVOCToTk

Their earlier stuff is straight up powerviolence/hardcore, then they moved onto old school 80s hardcore and now they play pure retro post-punk, these guys are genius! (Apparently they're another "hipster" band though)

Pink Turns Blue has a post-punk-y vibe to them. You might like later era Husker Du as well as Swans.

Ceremony was a pretty good band then they got lame as fuck. Trash Talk is just lame.

Thanks everyone! Been getting into early Swans recently too, some pretty insane shit! I'll look further into Killing Joke and also check out the post-punk stuff by The Cure. More recs are welcome!

EDIT: Listening to The Chameleons - Script of the Bridge right now, and liking what I'm hearing!

Finally got around to picking up a physical copy of Direct Control's Buck Town Hardcore :hyper: But I also picked up a few other records from bands you guys need to hear for some great 80's style hardcore.

First is the 7in S/T by Operation eat Shit that covers their short discography:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q65vuOFFQwE

Second is a band called BANXTHIS! with their s/t LP

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R61ZD-_u34g

Third is a band called ED with their Nailed to the Board LP

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FhJx_90VOy8

Excited to get these delivered to my door.

I really don't think there is a band that is better then Jerry's Kids. So full of energy.

Direct Control is awesome. I wish the guy would start it up again in Rochester instead of Obsessor.

Can anyone recommend some albums that stand out in a band's discography for being more akin to thrash/crossover/traditional heavy metal or just plain out there and weird compared to the rest of their punk albums? I'm thinking of how Cro-Mags' and English Dogs' middle eras or even Discharge's Grave New World and Massacre Divine tend to stick out.

"Animosity" by Corrosion of Conformity is a really good thrash album. Way more metal than their earlier releases. You could check out COC's 1990's stuff too but that is closer to southern rock/Black Label Society type metal.

C.O.C.'s one of my all-time favorite bands, and among the first that I love to bring up to the old farts that think all metal - mainstream and underground - died once the calendar ticked over to 1990. :-D I guess I was slightly unclear, which is entirely my fault. I'm thinking more along the lines of the following:

1. punk/hardcore/etc. 2. punk/hardcore/etc. 3. punk/hardcore/etc. 4. "the oddball" 5. "maybe another oddball" 6. punk/hardcore/etc. 7. punk/hardcore/etc. ...and so forth.

I'm interested in those "oddballs," not necessarily those that marked a wholesale change in the band's style for the duration of their career afterward.

Ya know, as familiar as I am with them by name and their significance and so forth, I've never actually delved into any Exploited albums at all. May as well dive right in now and enjoy their entire career for what it is.

I haven't but the cover art alone has certainly piqued my interest, and the fact that it was created by the band is deserving of praise. Quite subversive as so much of the artwork then was, but not in an "overt" way if that makes sense. This should be fun...

Just thought I would share Misantropic. I like crust and d-beat from time to time and there are a lot of good bands but rarely ever stand out for me. This one really caught my attention though. Awesome riffs and the vocalist is a woman who really belts it out.

Insomnia is only 16minutes for an album but give it a listen here.

Just heard, and ordered Complete Control - reaction. Love the UK82 overtones and the speed never relents. More on the punk side of the fence but can't stop listening. Recommended for those who just want a fast paced punk album.

Not many songs on YT but: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ka0Jdvy8NBY

Maidenpriestmanic, here are some albums that really helped rope me into crust punk:

Dystopia - Human = Garbage EP
This is a twisted blend of crust and sludge. From the epic riffing of Hands That Mould to the dynamic instrumentation of Stress Builds Character and from the unforgettable baseline of Sanctity to the braying distortion and horrific samples of Love/Hate, this just might be my favourite crust release of all time. There's only 5 songs, but goddamn do they pack the quality in. Dystopia have lots of stuff worth checking out, but this is the cream of the crop.
Spoiler: show

Behind Enemy Lines - The Global Cannibal
This is like thrashy hardcore after injecting a barrel full of steroids. These guys have fairly accessible song structures, but they stretch hardcore to its limits and go directly for the jugular. Featuring thoroughly researched political lyrics that are much more than the if you're not as far left as me and believe everything that I do you're a total nazi!! tripe of many crust bands. Their artwork is provided by their multi-talented drummer.
Spoiler: show

Nausea - Extinction
Classic. They do just about everything right here. The dual male-female vocals are amazing, the drumming is dynamic and the songs highly original. It's really a shame they didn't put out more (not so much into all their demos and whatnot).
Spoiler: show

Some more bands you might want to check out are His Hero Is Gone, Tragedy, Ecocide (very sludgy) and Filth. Checking out Amebix's discography is mandatory.

No mention of (my personal favourite) Unrest by Disrupt?! For shame sir, for shame... :p

Sure it goes up and down between brutish crust and grindcore, but it's such an intense album that it's difficult not to recommend it. This coming from a guy who barely even listens to hardcore and punk. It's absolutely mandatory, and will actually let you have a broader notion of where crust comes and goes.

Now, I know some people will frown on me for saying this, but also try Disfear later albums for some "fluffy" anthemic and melodic crust with a meaty (nearly Swedish) guitar tone. It's your basic d-beat with a lot of hooks and catchy choruses and features names like Uffe Cederlund and Tomas Lindberg.

There's also Tragedy if you want more melodic catchy crust. I'd say go with Vengeance for some of their best stuff.

I must admit that I have not heard that album (or any Disrupt album for that matter) in its entirety. They were always a band that I thought were cool and would listen to songs from here and there but never sat through a full length for whatever reason. Guess I'll have to give the album a spin.

Also, ain't nothing wrong with Disfear.

Ugh, don't listen to it through there. That's the Relapse 2007 remastered version of the album, which makes it sound extremely clean, too clean actually. I was unsure if I'd buy that version or not and when I went to check out the differences between the original master and remaster I nearly barfed. The album really looses its grit when you listen to the remaster, it sounds so tame and clean. I hate that remaster... :grr:

Glad you like 'em, maiden. They were not only what really got me into crust punk, but they also peaked my interest in sludge, which brought me to doom and from there the rest is history (it's not hard to guess where my username comes from - too bad I tacked that fucking 4 on, really wish I could change it).

You were right about Disrupt, Androdion. I'm really digging it, it's rough yet rockin' and I dare say a bit catchy. I definitely remember some of these songs from my big crust phase when I was 14-16.

Glad I could convert another soul into Unrest (cheeky pun I know). :p

I really dig the girl that does backing vocals in some of the songs, does anyone know if she recorded anything else with any other band, or with one of her own? She... fucking... rips!

Curious fact is that Misery Index is to blame for me liking both Brutal Truth and Disrupt, he he. Sometimes a good cover is all you need to go digging up. I think I should also try those recs you gave above, that is when I'm in an angrier mood (been jamming mainly trip hop and atmoblack lately).

Hello guys, anyone knows bands sounding like Foreground Eclipse? I mean, blending J-Pop with post-hardcore.
I don't know if this is post hc or screamo, since I'm no expert in those genres, but would appreciate some recs (:

Someone show me a better example of a non-crust band covering a crust song. Come on, I dare you.
