Looking for anything really similar to Satanic Warmaster's 'Opferblut.'

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7FbI4zsLb6A

The riffs are generally fast paced and they have this sort of very uplifting vibe to them. Not that I'm looking for 'happy' black metal like Deafhaven, but anyone that employs these soaring, 'epic' type of riffs would be great.
Thanks!

Are you familiar with Parnassus?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4X-o0y-ZsU

I knew about the band but I don't think I had heard them before. I will check out the album further, but to be honest the first couple of tracks bear very little variation. The keys seem to be doing the same thing over and over again, while the guitar goes chord progression up and down, blast beat/calm section/blast beat, rinse repeat.

As I said, I'll take a closer look into it but I don't have great expectations. Thanks though.

I would say yes. Andacht is rather polished and more modern sounding. Their earlier works are more raw and ghostly, Zyklus being my favorite but also Elixer of Sorrow is very good. I am not too familiar with their output before Elixer.. but I am sure others here could give an apt description.

Elixer Of Sorrow is actually very interesting. Damn it, another band with an extensive discography that I feel compelled to check out in its entirety! Well, guess I know what I'll be doing for the next few weeks then. :D

Ars Moriendi is much like Elixir of Sorrow, I think. Those two are actually my favourite Lunar Aurora albums together with (you might be surprised), Hoagascht. I also quite like Zyklus and Mond, and while Andacht is nice, it's not as good as their best albums.

I just noticed that I managed to misspell "elixer", which is so wrong given that even in Portuguese it's written the same way as in English... :nono:

Back to the topic at hand then. I've heard Andacht not that long ago, I think it was a couple of months back, but it just felt like that cool modern groovy black that despite being interesting is not exactly what I usually listen to. Elixir (!) though caught me off guard, and it's actually pretty good. I suppose I'll be spending some time with this band in the next few weeks, although I still have to decide how to attack their discography. It's going to be fun, he. :)

if you enjoy Emperor androdin check out Kataxu's 'Hunger of the Elements' -

Another worthwhile album is from Australia's Nazxul, check out their 'Iconoclast' release. Sadly not much from this camp since, they like to take their time.

If you can see past the NS Bullshit, same applies to Kataxu have a listen to Fanisk's 'Noontide', an enjoyable release and their best in my opinion.

Would Nockturnal Mortum's 'Lunar Poetry' be too obvious? My favourite release from them, though the production might not polished enough to your liking.

Not labelled as syntho black metal but still make great use of keys are Norway's Kvist, only one album but it is highly rated and a great listen. Thinking of them has also reminded me of Covenant also from Norway. Check out their debut album.

Shade Empire's latest has got some pretty strong reviews, they are a band never really clicked with me for some reason but they have some tasty keyboard work.

See how they go mate.

Ha, the black metal guru has returned!

On a side note, and regarding something you recommended me a while back, Finster has some interesting moments and I can see why you mentioned them to me. With that being said the album does feel a bit underdeveloped in many of its ideas, and I just can't pass past the obvious sloppy guitar playing. I'm a guitar guy. ;)

I've spent my fair share of time with Iconoclast, but the interludes just don't cut it for me. They break the flow instead of adding to a denser sense of atmosphere, and the album ends up loosing my attention. A crime I know, since there's some very interesting material there. I think I might have heard the entirety of Nokturnal Mortum's discography, and to be quite frank their old stuff has made me shy away due to how rough around the edges it is. Case in point, Nechrist. So you can see how I have some reserves in listening to their demo days. Kvist is awesome, known them for a while and I really like their take on the genre. Kind of 50-50 between Emperor and Satyricon. Shame there aren't any other bands (at least that I know of) playing like that. Going to check out that Covenant debut, which I think I've never heard because someone once handed me out a The Kovenant album when I was starting to listen to metal. Not a smart choice by whoever it was...

I'm on board with you regarding Shade Empire, never been a fan. In fact I listened to them again some months ago and my opinion about them only deteriorated. Can't say I've heard their newest, but is it so radically different from the preceding albums? Probably not enough to make an effort right?!

Kataxu... oh wow, that song was fucking gold! This is going on top of my "to do list". :D So, Fanisk too right? And should I bother with Eldrig as well? I usually don't mind the NS stuff if the music is actually good, but the funny thing is that the guys playing in NS bands rarely do anything good from where I'm sitting, so we usually avert one another. I don't know how I'll feel about having a swastika hanging in front of my head though. But then again if the music is good...

Phew, got some homework to do. Thank you for your "spiritual guidance". ;)

PS: I know I should be in bed already (got to work early in the morning), but damn is Noontide a "different" album or what?! I really need to listen to this with a clear mind, but so far they sound very "Wagnerian" in a cool kind of way.

It may be a little bit more into DBM territory and not particularly Urfaust-ish but I really like this demo by Tardigrada released in 2012. you can give it a listen herehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83F2PlR15nM.

BTW: I did not see you report yet of Aurora Infernalis on LoM. How did you like it? For me the band of the evening was Lugubrum.

The Ardbeg Wizard: I hope I'm not insulting your expertise in black metal by asking if you've heard Sarath from Norway or Cosmic Church. Those should fit the bill quite well. I don't know if the lyrics are too satanic or evil for you. Cosmic Church is thoroughly and utterly satanic, but the lyrics are far from the traditional aggressive, hateful kind, and more spiritual and ritualistic.

Edit: STORMM recommended me Malacath as a similar band to Laster. I haven't tried it out yet, but they have some EPs on bandcamp.
Edit: Malacath should fit the bill excellently. Also, thanks STORMM! Besides that, you might want to check out Stridsmenn. It's somewhat faster and more active, but it's fairly melancholic and not overtly hateful. Very good riffs.

Noontide is very different, I love the intro and 1st track, a fantiastic start to the album. Also check out the other two releases androdion, they are very good and yes Eldrig are similar too! Sadly Fanisk has called it quits earlier this year which was sad to hear. I hate NS but if the music is good I just ignore the lyrics. Glad to see some was to your liking ;)

Oh, and while I am on are you familiar with Obsidian Gate?

I'm still in the process of checking what you've recommended. I only voiced an opinion on Fanisk because I went into it expecting to bear though a couple of tracks and actually couldn't stop listening, trying to understand where it was going and all. But I have Kataxu and Covenant lined up as well. I think I should give them some today if I can have some alone time, he he.

I only know Obsidian Gate by name, and that cover art is familiar. And looking at the similar artists tab, yeah I'll give them a shot as well. Thanks bro!

Black Twilight Circle is a group of Mexican Americans wishing to emulate the "kult" image of France's Black Legions in order to drum up interest in their bland music. Red anarchist black metal is the leftist/hippie/crusty response to National Socialist black metal.

Anything similar to Jute Gyte?
I mean, instrumentally speaking, the vocals could be similar or not...
To specify better, I think it sounds like DSBM, I mean... For the cheesy and repetitive riffs... Except that it's upbeat rather than depressive.
yeah, I think that's what I like about it =P

The black twilight circle is a group of Americans (with indigenous backgrounds) that play raw atmospheric black metal who strive to reconnect with their ancestral past through chaos worship and a resurgence of ancient ways. Some of my favorite acts are Muknal, Odz Manouk, Absum, the Rhinocervs recordings, and Acualli.

RABM is just another political expression in the black metal world. Yes, it is music against fucking fascist scum who play NSBM, and while I don't fully support "Red Anarchy" (I myself am an anarcho-primitivist), I do fully support anyone who wants to express their disgust for all nazi/fascist fucks, homophobes, sexists and racists. As someone familiar with grind music, Grindcoremaniac135, you should find something you like there since most grind music is politically leftist and anti-fascist.

Thanks for the rec. as well, however, this didn't really capture the sound I was looking for. The depressive atmosphere was there, but it wasn't quite as sonic and aggressive and the speed wasn't there.

EDIT: I listened to the newer album, and it had everything I just said it didn't haha. Thanks dude.

It's worth nothing that a fat majority of the Black Twilight Circle bands are just Eduardo Ramírez starting up like 92 projects for each new idea he gets. Also, Rhinocervs (and associated projects such as Tukaaria, Odz Manouk, Absum and Glossolalia) technically aren't part of the BTC, though they occasionally interact with Crepúsculo Negro in order to contribute to splits/compilations and whatnot.

Okay guys, I'm a black metal n00b. I've found that I can't like the BM that most "true metalheads" seem to like.

However, I'm looking for a band that has a sound similar to God Seed. To me, they have an "epic, boasting" sound that is thanks to the riffs and Gaahl's amazingly inhuman voice. I also like that it's not too blasty as the drums are not taptaptaptaptaptaptaptaptaptaptaptaptaptaptaptap throughout the entire song.

When you listen to "The Wound' or "From the running of blood" you feel like you are an epic Satanic knight in Skyrim who is marching forth on the planes of ice and snow to a Christian castlechurch with the intention of having your Satanic Knights kill everyone there.

The coolest part is that they do this without the use of symphonic/orchestral elements.

I'm looking for a band similar to this:

- Acceptable production (not sounding like it was recorded on a Fisher Price toy)
- A pseudo-epic sound created by good riffs and good vocals, not from symphonic elements
- not to focused on the blast beats

I can't think now of nothing too similar to God Seed, but still on your last three requirements, I guess Diamond Eyed Princess, Kroda, or even Slechtvalk would fit.
Don't be fooled by Kroda's begginning of song, they may start the songs with some symphonic elements, but they abandon it when the riffs start.

Checked them out, they're cool. I don't like the vocals much but instrumentally it's great. Maybe if I force myself to listen to it enough the vocals will grow on me and things will be good from there.

Holy crap, listened to the first song an I'm already hooked. I'm very picky when it comes to black metal so the chances of a band satisfying me is very rare. However, Sargeist is totally awesome. Great vox, and have that pseudo-epic sound, and it's not constantly blasty.

Thank you both for the recs, thank you very much indeed.

I guess that is a good point, but it's insignificant. Most of the newer projects that are coming to the label are all new members, and as far as Rhinocervs, they are not directly BTC, but they are a part of the ideology they carry. I just saw what that one dude posted, and thought it was a dumb, fucked up definition, and I wanted to set it straight.

As far as the God Seed request, I know it might not sound like God Seed at all, but I feel like it fits the other descriptions well (powerful vocals, epic without the excessive synth, and not overly blasty...although don't get me wrong, they do have some songs that have a lot in them).

Drudkh.

EDIT:

I forgot to mention that you might also like Mgła.

Anyone know any good post-bm bands similar to Vagrond, but with more fast parts?

Any more? I'd like at least 3 total please!

It's a bit hard (at least for me) to think of something too similar to Vagrond,
but still... Some post bm bands with fast parts that come in mind would be Harakiri For The Sky, Altar Of Plagues, or Dressed In Streams.
Personally I like Dressed in streams the most, too bad they are a bit too hard to find.

Humm... I have two requests:
First, anyone knows some depressive black metal, with an atmosphere that is upbeat/uplifting? If that makes sense heh.
I think it's actually possible, if you think of depressive black metal as its set of contents: The large songs, made by the unending and memorable riffs. Basically, something similar to Jute Gyte or Svarti Loghin, but it could be different, I dunno... As long as it's depressive bm with a good atmosphere.

And second, are there black metal bands which blends martial industrial/military music on their songs?
yeah, NSBM bands may sing about war and stuff, and even have some quick interludes with martial passages, but never heard one actually BLENDING the genres.

Any recs?

I always thought Kriegsmaschine had a decidedly martial feel to their stuff:

The break in this one has drumming that's like a combination of metal bass drumming with a marching snare:

Then the title track has those militant sounding chants:

Thx man, this sounds interesting, I'm going to hear with more time later.
But you linked the same song twice, hehe. Was it meant to?
