I know I shamelessly plug this band all the time, but I cannot help it. It's no secret that Graves of the Archangels is my favorite death metal album.

There's little info available. I first heard about this through some insiders in the Greek scene, confirmed by some comments on the Greek Death/Grind facebook page.
Four days ago this became the new cover page for the band's official facebook page:

Image

So all we have is a confirmation that it's coming and a snippet of the artwork. Excited as I am? Discuss!

What?!?!?!? No... seriously? No way. Just. No. Way.

:hyper:

Edit: I really wish I had something more constructive to add. But yeah.. :hyper: That's awesome news!

I'm going to pretend that the band has literally been working on this album the entire time since the debut and it will be the best album ever released.

I was kinda assuming they were just going to fall apart due to inactivity and member disinterest, so I'm pretty glad to be proven wrong here.

I know for a fact that that isn't true (asked a member directly a couple of years ago) but I do love thinking they spent 6 hard years underground carefully crafting the finest death metal album of them all, haha. My expectations are sky high and I doubt they'll disappoint.

Well, Anastasis does run Nuclear Winter Records mostly by himself (at least it's always him replying to the mailorder) and Greece has been (and still is actually) in the shitter for the past years where economy is concerned. They have an unemployment rate of around 27%, so yeah I don't fault them for not "finding the time" to release a new album earlier.

I think people sometimes forget that there's more to life than just playing instruments and releasing albums, and I'm sure life is really fucked up in Greece nowadays. I'd say give them a break and enjoy the possibility of finally having a new album out!

Good news for any DM enthusiast, even if I'm not their biggest fan.

I love GotA! Pretty much one of the finest death metal albums of that decade. I can't imagine how they'd top it. No way can they do that...but if they did or released something at par, well it'll be safe to say that it'll be THE album of this decade.

Excellent, excellent news indeed. It has been FAR too long between releases, and this will be a instant purchase when it drops.

Yeah when i saw that the facebook cover pic was updated with this i clapped my hands and squealed.
They´ve been busy with the band recently. They played more live over the past 2 years than the time before that IIRC.
Can´t wait for this. If it will be as good as Graves it is a serious candidate for the best metal album of next year.

This should be pretty great, seems like there are quite a few metal albums to look forward to in 2014.

I think this is one of the most expected death albums of the year.

Good to hear that they're finally gearing up for another release. Not that I'm complaining about the fact that they've been up to Finland at least three or four times during these six years (which is a lot more than most foreign death metal bands playing this style), but will be interesting to hear new material. I'm hoping for something as good as Graves of the Archangels or maybe even Purifying Consecrated Ground, but as always, I'm a bit leery after such a long wait. At least live they're still as on fire as ever, perhaps even more so.

Definitely looking forward to this.

It's funny how everyone loves Graves... but not many people mention Purifying Consecrated Ground, which is even better IMO.

Nah. The EP is excellent, but it's only an EP. Graves was a complete work, an atmospheric behemoth with its own identity. The drumming is a little more colorful on Purifying Consecrated Ground, but the restraint shown in Graves fits the music better.

Oh, it's great! I had already spun that one like 9 times when I first gave Graves... a listen. It's only that it's much shorter, and of course people usually pay more attention to full lengths. They are regarded as more complete, rounded works (and they're usually better marketed) even when the EP's and demos have amazing tracks. That's just how it is.

I thought it was funny that their name had been popping up a lot lately. I shamelessly plug these guys a lot too, though, that's how I found out about them, someone else's rabid fanboyism.

I imagine the board members are in a "end to a Star Wars movie" type celebration. Excellent news, I had given up on it ever happening.

As someone who feels much of the OSDM revival falls short of the mark these guys are certainly a band that deserves the hype they get. Can't fucking wait.

Is it just me or Nuclear Winter Records seems to be dead? I can't find a working link for the website and the Myspace page has been brought down as well apparently. Did it close?

Nuclear Winter's site is down, that's all (for undisclosed reasons). It will be up again, but not anytime soon according to Anastasis.

EDIT: I do remember him posting in the NWN forums earlier this year looking for someone to help redesign the e-shop but that apparently isn't entirely why it's down. The label's still functioning, though, no worries.

I just found it strange you know?! New album coming out and suddenly the label dropping from the face of the Earth.

That one is good, as well as the Nuclear Winter - Abomination Virginborn demo. It's basically pre-Dead Congregation. Hell, the first song on the demo is called Dead Congregation.

As you should keep plugging them! They are well regarded in the underground now, but im sure there's tons of people on this board that havn't gotten into them yet. Im very excited for the new release, hope it doesn't disappoint!
