Truthfully, I've only listened to all the Caval-era albums(see what I did there?) and just because of those I'd put them in my top 20 favourite bands. A couple years ago I bought "Against" and "Nation" and thought they were rather weak and ended up giving them to the pawn shop for 1$ each, that's how much I didn't like them. So I'm wondering if there's albums with Derrick Green that aren't so bad? I read on their page here on the archives "Recent albums show a stronger thrash metal influence again (2009-now)." are they worth checking out? or even the albums prior to being thrashy again?

Nope. Don't bother. You'll just be disappointed.

Sepultura is one of my all time favorite bands, but naw, no Green albums really stand out as anything much. Roorback isn't too bad, has a few cool songs, but the rest are defintely more Groove Metal than Thrash.

In my opinion Dante XXI and Kairos are the best albums from the post-Max Caval-era (yeah, i saw what you did there)

I checked out a couple songs from Kairos on youtube and it sounds pretty decent but nothing I'd spend my money on but much better than Against and Nation that's for sure.

I remember A-Rex being like a worse version of Against so you can at least avoid that one.

I put it there for reference as he said he didn't see the thread, and the subject matter is pretty much the same.

Against isn't THAT weak, sure, it's far from a masterpiece, but has a few convincing songs i'd say.
Skip Nation, that album is just fucking terrible, by ANY standard
Roorback is pretty good i'd say, it's alternative sure, but it's worth a try atleast.
Dante XXI is pretty damn good.
A-Lex isn't as good as it's predecessor, and has been deemed Sepultura's worst album after Nation, but I think it's decent.
Kairos is pretty damn good, didn't like it at first, it still sounds dull and at times boring, but it's good.
The Mediator... pretty damn sick, probably the best of the Green era...

Except for the facts I really like A-Lex (though it's pure groove metal, I recognise) and I wouldn't completely trash there mastershit Nation, I agree with each word from LeMiserable. Have a listen to some songs from each at least, maybe you'll get disappointed, maybe you won't. It's not that bad after all, if you don't mind how great Sepultura had been in the past.
