Masterplan - Warrior's Cry, off MK II

This certainly sounds better than the rest of Masterplan's drab bollocks.

Winterlong - Winterlong

Great power metal. Proof that low-budget is the way to go.

Yob- The Great Cessation. Hard to hear the stoner in this but its crushingly heavy. I like the drum production.

Deafheaven - The Pecan Tree

Still the best album I've heard from 2013.

Napalm Death - Death By Manipulation

This disc just rules, of course. Whole bunch of classic EPs plus a few live tracks. Mass Appeal Madness ep may be my favorite ND recording.

Kula Shaker - K

Seen this described as the Sgt. Pepper's of the mid-90s. Gonna have to agree.

Tiamat - A Deeper Kind Of Slumber

The more I listen to this, the more I prefer it to Wildhoney (which is still fucking great).

Agalloch - As Embers Dress the Sky

I haven't listened to 'Pale Folklore' in ages. I still really like it. The only thing that detracts from it are the female vocals, because her style doesn't fit the music; she's way too operatic.

Samhara - Samhara tandava
I'm investigating Black Doom metal, so yeah, I've beed hearing lot's of stuff. I like this one, but I will need to listen to it a couple of time to read into the music.

It's actually on the Official band youtube channel, so here it goes.

Tides of Man - Young an Courageous.

I'm loving their new take into post-rock. Can't wait for the new album.

Yeah I thought I'd hate this album, but it's so mellow and meditative. Really won me over, even if I still dislike the cover art.

Blut Aus Nord - Epitome II

I've just made a play-list of all three 777 albums, and I'm going to keep it on 'til the end - this is going to be an interesting couple of hours.

Suture: carnivorous urge to kill

re-recorded version

Suture: Skeletal Vortex

re-mixed version.

I don't know the re-record version of carnivorous sounds good but parts don't hit as hard as they did originally or even on the demos. oh well

so far the remix of SV sounds pretty decent. almost blackens it more.

Anti-Depressive Delivery - Chain Of Foods

A modern prog rock masterpiece. Sounds so '70s.

Opeth - Closure (Extended live version)

I like to call this song "nutjob prog music", because that's what it is. A nine minute long fusion tune that just goes insane near the end.

If they play the same set for the whole tour, Rotting Christ will probably be playing largely new stuff - they're on great form though!

Huldrelok wrote:
Unholy shit! that looks like a killer show, does Rotting Christ ever play their old demos/albums? That would be a treasure to see live.

They did, in fact, play new stuff but I never could really get into this band anyway.
I enjoyed Negura Bunget's short set and new stuff (this trumpet!).
Twilight of the Gods is a fucking joke.

They'd have been really good on an entirely different lineup - they didn't fit very well on the tour, and the crowd really made sure they knew it - it was a bit sad really, you could tell Alan Averill was getting pretty frustrated that the crowd weren't taking to it very well.

NP: Vader - Come and See my Sacrifice

One of my favorite Vader tracks; definitely a good summary of the bands foot-stomping aggression and intensity.

Ehh, I think it's slightly better than Wildhoney. It flows better than that album does and is way more consistent. Wildhoney has a cool music style but wasn't as developed as it could have been.

NP: Nightfall - Aye Azure

Unique, Arabian melodic death/black metal with blazing tremolo picking riffs and a odd songwriting style. Pretty decent so far.

I was thinking the same while I was watching them and seing his face.
Imagine yourself in a somewhat embarrassing project and having to tour for it with that crowd reaction show by show.

Great, raw, atmospheric black metal.

queued: Blodsband - Intolerans (demo)
Awesome black metal, kind of Ildjarn-ish.

also queued: Every Burzum record

As always.

Argus - By Endurance We Conquer

The new Argus album has been giving me a good kick in the ass. It's like a mixture of Iron Maiden harmonies, Dio's vocals, and Black Sabbath's riffs; proper heavy metal! This first song has given me goosebumps after repeated listens.

I thoroughly enjoyed it too. Not quite as catchy as its predecessor, but still highly recommended.

The Ruins Of Beverast - Apologia

I still find the new album too filler-y/directionless, but it's also still TRoB. Epic way to start the day.

Just about the most vicious song they've ever done aside from The Rape and Ruin of Angels.

Myrkr - The Awakening of the Shadow

Excellent Irish black metal dripping with icy malice. The heavily echoed/reverb vocals are outstanding, as is the c..c..cold as fuck riffs. Very, very black indeed.
