What you think of the furry fandom? Are you into furry art? I am a huge fan of furry art. I also read some furry webcomics.

Can you please try to explain to me the appeal of the furry fandom? I personally cannot understand why furries are so unanimously outspoken about their passion for the art and subculture. It seems embarrassing, and I can't comprehend what compels one to become involved with it, much less publicly associate with it in places where furries aren't particularly known to congregate.

I have no idea what the appeal of furry is, but I'm only mildly annoyed by it. It seems like a weird fetish (not necessarily a sexual one... though I'm not entirely sure about that) surprisingly many people enjoy and want to share it seems. Well, maybe you can clear this nescience about furries and explain a little more.

So it's now official, I have no faith in humanity whatsoever.

It's really not much different from any other fandom, as far as I can tell. There's a range of involvement and interest among its members, and they hold events wherein like-minded individuals can share their enjoyment of said fandom. Trying to rationalize why people are interested in... just about anything, is pretty silly, I think. Preferences toward mediums or styles (in the visual arts, for example) are just... preferences.

One sees a fair number of furries at anime conventions, generally pretty amiable folks. I have to say, I'm quite impressed by anyone who can go a full day in one of those fursuits, they seem like they'd get extremely warm and exhausting for the wearer. It's interesting to me how much of an overlap there is between the furry fandom and the transformation fandom, the latter being a pretty unique thing in its own right that I don't really see discussed much anywhere. OP, is that something that you're a part of as well?

As far as webcomics... well, I'm not really a big fan of those in general, and the one that I'm going to mention isn't a furry comic per-se (as far as the author is concerned), but I'd imagine that there's also some overlap in fanbase: Bittersweet Candy Bowl. Quite nicely done, and I'm glad that I was introduced to it, all in all.

I think it has something to do with the same ideals behind the cosplay world, where instead of being the character you want to be for a day, you can just be anything at all you wanna be. so its kinda like a more or less disturbing alternative to a mask, whether the face shows through the "outfit" or not.

-edit-
I'm not into furry play or that shit but I watch a lot of Heroes of Cosplay
