Borrowed Time - Of Nymph and Nihil, off Borrowed Time

Hmmm. The music certainly is quality stuff, but I'm not really sold on the singer. His wavery inflection seems like a bit of an acquired taste.

Storm - Innferd

This band is a grower. The folk melodies they use seem too cheesy at first, but the songwriting is quite competent and they don't take folk as an excuse to write bland riffs.

When I first listened to this album I didn't like it because of the vocals, now I realize I was an idiot. This is brilliant power/thrash metal and if you like good riffs(who doesn't?) you should give this a spin.

Yeah, it's pretty great. It's far more adventurous than the debut, and quite successful at it. It pulls the whole progressive speed metal thing off masterfully. What's not to love?

This album is awesome! People who think funeral doom is boring need to check this out.

Ulver - Nattens Madrigal... (Wolf & Hatred to be exact)

I only find myself listening to this maybe 5 or 6 times a year now, absolute masterpiece of an album... first heard it over 14 years ago now and I really think it only gets better with time...

Funeral doom doesn't get much better than the first two Skepticism albums.

NP: Tim Hecker - Virgins

I don't find this album as gripping and totally devastating as Ravedeath, 1972 but it is still a very good album nonetheless.

MGMT - Oracular Spectacular

Haven't heard this in some time. Somehow, it manages to make me think of childhood.

The Ruins of Beverast - Malefica

Hypnotising and not as intensive as some of TRoB other stuff. I could do without the clean vocals however.

Dark Lord - One Night in the City

Good enough heavy metal from Italy that sounds rather American in tone.

NP: Morpheus Descends - Ritual of Infinity

Classic OSDM. Catchy riffs throughout.

Queued:

Rainbow - Long Live Rock N' Roll

Sometimes you've just got to stick on something with great tunes that you can dance to.

Warrior - Fighting for the Earth (first listen)

USPM, based on failsafeman's review I should enjoy it.

Demilich - Nespithe

I struggle with this one. It sounds like good death metal, and I think I enjoy it, but sometimes it really seems to lack enough simple riffs I can bang my head to.

Because that's the only album people who buy t-shirts of album covers to up their underground metal cred have heard.

Judas Priest - Here Come the Tears

Bathory - The Messenger

One of my less-listened-to tracks from Nordland II, but definitely a solid one - legitimately very enjoyable, and perhaps one of the tracks which most strongly carries the style of albums like Hammerheart.

Hail of Bullets- III the Rommel Chronicles.

Holy shit. As much as I like the first two, they've finally got their shit together and wrote some great death metal songs. It's so much tighter. More Bolt Thrower- like, heavy grooves.

Aye, this is a beautiful record that, like many great albums, reveals itself more and more with numerous listens. I think the dynamics between the acoustic and black metal moments compliment each other well since the atmosphere stays consistent throughout despite the the audible differences.

-

Enshine - Origin

This is my first time listening through this one and I am impressed thusfar. It seems to be closest thing we are going to get to a second Slumber album and it lives up to the legacy of Fallout nicely. Jari Lindholm sure knows how to write some fantastic and engaging guitar melodies.

Forka - Empire Surrender

I saw them live the day before yesterday and had a great time. Listening to them for the first time now. As far as thrashcore goes, they're no Cataract, but very capably nonetheless. They have their own sound and do the best job at mixing hardcore aggression with thrash riffs.

Yes - Fragile

This arrived today. My first Yes album, the only song I've heard from it is Roundabout (which is awesome). Loving it so far. Jon Anderson's vocals are very soothing.

Funny cause I was trying to decide a representative song from the album for this:

I think it will be VI - Of Wolf And Passion.

Diablo Swing Orchestra - Sing-Along Songs For The Damned & Delirious

Arrived today, first listen, yaddayaddayadda. Once upon a time, this was my goto walk-to-school band. They were so weird, at the time. Let's hear what they've come up with next.

Nekromantheon - The Usurper Command

Bought a bullet belt the other day. I'm not saying that that fact is causally connected to listening to a lot of black thrash recently, but there's definitely the possibility.

I'm not entirely sure how to respond there.

NP: E-Type - True Believer

Some Eurodance which my friend just sent me a link to with little in the way of foreshadowing. It's quite catchy and has thus far had no effect on my wardrobe choices.

This post is a gold nugget in a sea of shit.

I just bought The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Band of Gypsys on vinyl so I'll be listening to a lot of that.

I know, right??

Metal Church - The Human Factor
The least frequent of the 3 albums with Mike Howe I've revisited until now but if nothing else, the kid came out to play on this one and coming off the grandiose Blessing in Disguise, I can understand the desire to produce something a little closer to street-level. This is really fun as all hell and should have been the album that finally launched them into greater consciousness, but I can understand both why it didn't catch on that way and why older fans of the first 2 albums just gave up. Still, this and Armored Saint's Symbol of Salvation are proof enough to me that American traditional metal bands still had plenty to offer in 1991.

Yes - Fragile

Not often I listen to an album twice in the same day. But this is fucking brilliant. I should have been listening to these dudes years ago when my stoner friends kept jerking off to them.

Death Angel - The Dream Calls For Blood

Better than the last couple of album I think, there's more interesting ideas dotted around but it's still nothing special. It's lived up to expectations then.
