But it seems like the newest Final Fantasy, FFXIII: Lightning Returns, looks good.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LExLeRPaNWM

There's actual monsters and it's not cutesy. Oh god FFXIII with Shiva being transforming motorcycle girls was so cheesy and corny. They had these brightly colored enemies and nothing was threatening. This has actual monsters like dragons and stuff.

There isn't some stupid capture enemies and make friends and wanna be Pokemon type stuff like FFXIII-2 appeared to have.

Lightning was the least annoying character so if the game is solely her then that's not bad. A monotone bland girl is way better than the rest of the cast.

It seems to be an action RPG using the job system where you set a couple of jobs to be able to switch in battle.

Here's one of the schemata, this game's name for the job system.

Not sure if they're finally doing the right thing to get the old fans back.

This game has sparked my interest, haven't really been interested in FF since X, XIII and part 2 kinda blows in my opinion, way too linear for my liking and I don't know the story didn't do much for me, still FF8 and FF4 are my all time favs of the series. I'm really curious to see how this game turns out.

Picked up on Sengoku Basara again, until I selected a glass moth, heh. Dies all the time and he's at level 21 :/

I don't have much faith in the "numbered" Final Fantasy games anymore (I just saw screenshots of XV and they look absolutely wretched) but I will support the series so long as they keep cranking out quality spin-offs like 4 Heroes of Light and remakes of the older games.

Basically what Kalachan said seems to imply it's trying to go the more oldschool route, and that's somehow just reminding me of X-2, which was obviously nothing more than an interesting combat system shoehorned into a fucking abysmal game. Color me not interested.

Can anyone give me a good reason to continue playing Fable? Because so far setting, writing and gameplay are pretty fucking underwhelming.

To legitimize calling it "crap from beginning to end"?
Because forcing yourself through mediocrity makes you appreciate good games all the more?
Because having it on your desktop is easier to explain than macaroni and midget porn?
Because its unrelenting hypnotic tedium can deaden the current conscious part of your mind sufficiently for you to reach a higher state of mind and develop a deeper understanding of reality itself?

Still not worth it.

So, for some reason I bought a shit ton of games on Steam during this sale that I will probably never play, especially with how busy I am with school. I got the Legacy of Kain bundle, Fallout 3 and NV ultimate editions, Eldritch, Alan Wake and Nuclear Throne (that one's actually not on sale but it looked fun).

Not a huge fan of the "voxel art" but Eldritch is actually pretty fun. The first world (Dagon) is pretty easy, but the second world is kinda tough, got through it yesterday, though and I'm on what appears to be either the final world, or the second one. Once I beat this world, I can open the door in the library (which is pretty much like the main hub, or starting point) and I'm not sure if that's the end or if there is another world after. Lots of fun monsters, monsters that you can't kill too. Unfortunately the game looks like it's gonna be pretty short, but for 12 bucks, I can't really complain.

Nuclear Throne is all sorts of fun! I'd recommend it, has the same type of control scheme as Miami Hotline, except it's just a top down shoot'em up rogue-lite. Pretty entertaining.

Is there a story through-line through all of the Souls game, or is it just one ridiculously hard and intense adventure after another?

And here's where our opinions split ways: Alan Wake is a huge piece of shit. Yeah, okay, the atmosphere is pretty intoxicating, but that doesn't make up for the single-gimmick gameplay and utterly dogshit writing. Horrible game, Remedy should be ashamed.

Could you be any more unnecessarily extreme? What you just stated is pretty much what's wrong with the internet. Everything is either the worst thing to ever exist, or the best thing ever known to man! What happened to things just sucking, but being okay with that and not egregiously offended?

I found virtually nothing redeemable about the whole experience, outside of some decent (but still lackluster for a AAA title) voice acting and some passable textures (that were constantly obscured and distorted thanks to the unalterable blur effects).

One of the very few games I own and have absolutely no interest in playing again ever. I didn't make it to the 10 hour mark. It's by far one of the worst games I've played.

EDIT: Alan Wake is a sweet game, I really enjoyed it.

I only endured 2 hours. It feels like a game for children, but not in a good way. Children deserve something more intelligent.

It's everything shitty about adventure games in one huge pack of disappointment. It's like they made a game out of the worst aspects of Zelda and made them stupider.

Clearly. I found the writing to be fantastic, as per usual from Sam Lake.

One of the very few cases in which a game‎ is better than the movie it was based off of.

The Riddick games are arguably better than the movies, even though I like the movies. The games are the shit though.

I never saw any Riddick movies, but I had a blast with the games. If only more movie-based games followed its example

Soo in the mood of starting a new Dark Souls character now and doing a playthrough. Already lost count of how many characters I've made :p

I'll probably go nuts this time around and do that Firelink Shrine Bonfire only challenge I've had in mind for some time now...

I second this. Alan Wake was basically 10 hours of pointing your flashlight at the same dudes and shooting them after.

I still remember busting my ass and finally getting invincibility in that game. I beat the timer by one second. Was so excited because I could finally run through the Silo level after detonating all of the c4 and just watch everything explode around me. That and seeing how far I could launch Dr. Doak into the air with the remote mines were two of my favorite things to do in single player.

I got into the beta for Hearthstone a bit over a week ago and have been having a blast playing that. The game itself is pretty simple, some say it's Magic for casuals. I can't really speak to that though. The game looks pretty great too, especially the animations on some of the higher end cards. Also I love how they made pretty much every part of the board interactive. Clicking on any part of it will almost always cause some silly effect to happen. Loads of time to be spent on this game in the future for sure.

Beauty of games. Different shit for everyone.

Just a shame the movies don't even scratch the surface of the amount of hard sci-fi potential the games presented.

I finished Dual Destinies. Probably my third favourite Phoenix Wright game after 3 and 1. The last case was certainly up to series standards. Absolutely batshit insane.

Apparently Battlefield 4 is completely unplayable on PC. Guess that's what you get when EA forces you to fix the beta problems less than a month before release day. Blue and red screens of death, servers crashing, half the people in servers getting spontaneously kicked, flying boats, flying jet skis, flying people (as in, climbing a ladder results in an invisible jet pack sprouting out of your asshole, Tremors 3-style), rubber banding, spawning in midair without a parachute, sound cutting out, wrong sounds playing, you get the picture. Appears to be less functional than Enter the Matrix was on release....though I haven't heard of any exploding PCs/Playstations/Xboxes yet, so it has that going for it.

I may or may not get it in six months when prices come down and hopefully the thing works. When it works it appears to be better than the last couple of releases.
