Obliteration - Styxerian Path (Into Darkness)

I love how Cetlic Frost/Panzerfaust this album sounds in some parts. It's like doomy Celtic Frost death metal.

Seriously, I don't understand how, mostly, this is the only song on Addicted! that draws any ire. I know it's cheesy, but it's a fucking love song, come on. Just 'cause it's a love song doesn't mean he isn't serious about it.

I like that song. The guitar tone is warm, the melodies catchy and the aim honest.

Still have to get Retinal Circus. I'm circling around the CD/DVD package instead of the boxset due to lack of funds.

Absolutely agreed. Also, I went with the CD/DVD package, too. An absolute must purchase, that was one fucking hell of a gig. Wish I had have been there in person. I've seen the man live, it was incredible. Great guy, too. Very humble, and friendly.

The Devin Townsend Project - Life (By A Thread version)

Oh man, this song. THIS SONG! You ever get depressed, throw this shit on and tell me you don't feel like a million bucks.

That's my favorite Devin Townsend clean-vocals-only track. His vocals here possess a sort of sincerity, which makes the song so damn beautiful.

Hey Jasper, instead of posting larger-than-necessary album covers throughout this thread, how about you give us your comments on what you're listening to? Be it a song or an album, the rules of the thread are to actually add something, not just state.

I'm quite happy I managed to find a hard copy of this for a semi-reasonable price (by Japanese standards, at any rate).

Anti-Depressive Delivery - Chain Of Foods

Such a fucking good prog rock album. Reminds me of DSotM-era Pink Floyd fucking Road Salt-era Pain Of Salvation with Black Sabbath playing in the background, and having a sense of humour about it.

Just heard Halloween off of this album in the car so I got home and figured I'd listen to the whole album!

Anti-Depressive Delivery - The Best Of Anti-Depressive Delivery

Hard to say which I like more. This third album or the second (Chain Of Foods). Both really polished the sound from the first album, upping the prog rock and lessening what little metal there was.

Les Discrets - La Traversée

Man, this band rules. I don't understand why they aren't on the Archives though; they're every bit as metal as Alcest. But that's neither here nor there. Awesome anyway.

Armoured Angel - Hymn of Hate

Straight forward death metal done right. Very 'rock-and-roll' driven riffs that are fun but crushing. AA are kings in their own regard.

Awesome fucking choice there! That whole EP is a stormer - an unsung classic. Saw these guys live way back in '94, and they opened with this exact number, which is still my favourite Armoured Angel track to this day :metal:

Damnation - Eternal Black

Some very cool relatively obscure Swedish black metal that rips.

People love sticking thrash on as a catch-all term to justify choppier riffing patterns. I swear, I've even heard people call later-era Limbonic Art "black/thrash".

Obliteration - The Spawn Of A Dying Kind

Stunning death metal. Huge, loping, angular riffs with a massive lumbering bass dragging it's broad knuckles over the the thorny ground.

Circle - Torpedo Star Throne

I'm preparing my Aktor review by listening to another Jussi Lehtisalo project, perhaps his most famous too. This album, Katapult, is one of their explorations into metallic realms.

Emyn Muil - Túrin Turambar Dagnir Glaurunga - Death of Glaurung

If you're in the mood for some epic black powered by Tolkien then you better give this 2013 release a listen. Lots of melodies and samples in the vein of Stronghold and LMHSYF, good vocals, excellent production. Perfect for November 1.

Mr. Bungle - Mr. Bungle

Arrived today. First listen in quite some time. I remember this one being funkier than what came next.

EDIT: Oh god, I forgot how hilarious this album is! So unabashedly juvenile!

Atlantean Kodex - Enthroned In Clouds And Fire

I picked this up purely because Empyreal said (in this very topic, I think) that it was his album of the year. I'm reminded why I generally listen to your recommendations. This album is thunderous, epic, monumental. If anyone here is into 'epic doom' and hasn't heard this band yet, I'd go ahead and check this out ASAP.

Death Strike - Pay to Die

Before this I listened to Poison - Further Down into the Abyss compilation CD. Both that and Death Strike - Fuckin' Death CD came in the mail from Hell's Headbangers today. I also listened to Ravi Shankar and Jefferson Airplane on vinyl today. Before that it was Darkthrone from when I woke up.

Yeah, I don't really get that crazy about Bathory-influenced stuff, but The White Goddess is so well put together and has quite a bit more to it than that. I can really hear the passion in it. I really like how succinct the songwriting is; they are long songs but you don't get any of the usual space-wasting crap or ambiance you usually get with bands like this. I mean there are some little interludes, but the songs themselves are doing things for the entire runtime, using every second like it counts. Really masterful.

It's been a few weeks actually...

I'm glad other people on the boards know of them!! I did a quick term search for Armoured Angel and find myself and only a handful of others talking about them. Really is a shame because I think of them as Bolt Throwers' equal. So fucking jealous you had the privelage of seeing them live. I wasn't even conceived yet, hahaha.

Blut Aus Nord - Epitome 2. Perfect soundtrack to this bleak and miserable day. I always considered the 777 trilogoy to be my least favorite of BaN's works, but now that i'm revisiting I think I have a change of heart.

Armoured Angel - Myth Of Creation

Primal, pounding and threateningly heavy death metal from a band who never really got massive attention. The Stigmatyr and Mysterium EP's are as solid as it gets.

This might be my favourite FNM, I think. Nice blend of genres while still keeping the core sound intact.

Decrepit Birth - Metatron, off Polarity

Now, I watched an interview where the vocalist stated that psychedelia in general was a big inspiration behind this album's creation. Certainly, the mix of trippy elements and tech death seemed very interesting, so I decided to give this a shot.

Bill Robinson is a fucking liar.

The best music video I've seen in recent times... still doesn't change my opinion that the one Portal album I have (Outre) is all I'll ever need from the band.

Manilla Road - Metal

Holy shit. Pretty great. Abominatrix summed it up quite well in his review: "If you close your eyes, you can almost imagine being in some slightly ramshackle bar somewhere (probably Kansas!) seeing these guys play their young hearts out, and it's such an exhilarating feeling."
