Black Trip - Goin' Under

Traditional heavy metal. Good shit, but mostly fillers imo.

Sykdom - Dead Men, from Under Krigen

Giving the full album its first spin now. So far so good.

Sombres Fôrets - Automne

This band is best appreciated at dawn after a rainy night when there still is a thick mist between the hills. But I think most things are.

Fullmoon - The Wolfish Initation

Amazing demo. Felt like playing some good Polish BM as I fly to Poland later tonight :P

Alice Cooper - Why Trust You
I have no idea why, but recently I've been listening a lot to Alice Cooper. Fun music somehow.

Just listened: Depravity - Silence of the Centuries

Probably my favourite Finnish DM release. So good.

NP: Count Raven - Storm Warning

Perenially overlooked, Count Raven is fantastic, though I'm not very familiar with their other albums yet.

Queued:

Conqueror - War Cult Supremacy

Not usually hugely into the whole bestial BM thing but today I'm in the mood.

The Austrasian Goat/Neige Morte split (first listen)

Well, it's marked as funeral doom in my library and it's not overly long so hopefully it'll be decent.

Doom/No Security - Bury the Debt, Not the Dead

Fantastic crust split, some of both bands' best material (although not quite up to War Crimes/Police Bastard level for the former).

Corsair - Gryphon Wing

Very cool prog rock from 2012 with really interesting usage (tasteful) of leads.

SubRosa - Borrowed Time, Borrowed Eyes

Been semi-interested in checking this out for a while now. "Sweet Leaf" esque riffs with vocals that remind me of Blood Ceremony or Castle and weird violins overtop. Strange. I kind of thought it would be more harsh and extreme a la hardcore or something, maybe I got the wrong impression. Sounds cool though.

NP: Comecon [Megatrends in Brutality, 1992] - 4/11. The Mule (02:06/03:21) {160 kbp/s}
Could have used a chunkier drum sound (it's weak for what the music is) but otherwise it's good Swedish DM

Vista Chino - Peace

Pretty good continuation of the Kyuss legacy. More rocky, but as long as Brant Bjork's behind the drums I don't care about much else. Kinda makes up for the shittyness of the newest QOTSA album.

Do it. SKR is supposed to be coming out with more reissues.

Cannibal Corpse - Tomb of the Mutilated

The best album by Cannibal Corpse imo and a true classic in death metal. Eerie 'tomb-like' atmosphere combined with a pulverizing brutality. Too bad they lost that atmosphere after this one. Perhaps only Gallery of Suicide and Vile retained some. Butchered at Birth obviously has that same necro-feeling, but the songwriting and especially the production is not that brutal compared to TotM. Still, I enjoyed their later efforts, especially The Wretched Spawn.

Truppensturm - Fields of Devastation

Again, something totally necro and brutal. The vocals contribute intensely to the ambience, controlled but beastly at the same time. The breaks give that rush of adrenaline that you want in your metal. Excellent.

New York Dolls - Pills

Some interesting and relaxing rock music. I like it.

Dimmu Borgir - For All Tid

I quite enjoy this album. Also, Stian Aarstad (aka the Phantom of the Opera) looks remarkably out of place. But I love his synth-work.

One of the best punk albums ever, and the second half basically laid the foundations for sludge:

Nightingale - Dreamreader, off Nightfall Overture

Call me crazy, but I prefer the re-recordings heard here over the original versions.

You're not alone. The re-recordings bring a crisp energy to the early compositions, and since both exist, we can choose freely between the uptempo rock on Nightfall Overture or the ethereal, dreamlike mood of the original versions. It's just a shame Nightfall Overture is so damned hard to find in physical form; I must have chased it down for about three years before I finally got a copy.

Yeah, certainly. I mean, I like the originals and everything, but the NO re-recordings are just so very lively and fun..... I was not aware that obtaining a copy was so damn hard though. There go my hopes of obtaining one, considering my location :annoyed:

Well, the thing about Nightfall Overture is that only 500 copies were ever pressed, back in 2005. It's a shame that it never saw "wide" release, but I found mine on an eBay auction, so I reckon there's always hope no matter where you live.

But hey, at least it's easier to find than that Nightingale box set from 2009 that's limited to 40 copies. christ on a crutch. :|

Ninnghizhidda - Nailed Upon a Cross

Erra - Dementia

I've listened to this song probably 20 times in a row now. My favorite song of the year, just maybe. Those final 2 minutes are pure bliss.

Argus - Beyond the Martyrs

One of the best newer heavy metal bands of today. Amazingly powerful voice, great epic production and aggressive riffs

Acoustic version from the Retinal Circus album. Devin's acoustic tone with all the echo is just unreal.

Beelzefuzz - Lonely Creatures

Another promising band ascending from the land of doom aka Maryland. Great balance of doom metal, hard rock and psychedelic textures.
