I am looking for OSDM with good guitar leads. So please only recommend stuff that has some solo work in it. I thoroughly enjoy the OSDM style, but want just a little flash along with the it.. as far as lead work id prefer more of a melodic standpoint, not "Slayer" fashion. I cant stand super guttural vocals at all, unless its used sparingly then I can look past it. I would prefer not so muddy production. Bands ive been getting into lately are Incantation, Funebrarum, Dead Congregation, Vomitory, Vehemence, Bloodbath, Cannabis Corpse...

You need to check these out, and this is just the tip of the iceberg...

Vorum

Binah

Necros Christos

Claws

Drowned

Mortem

Embrace Of Thorns

Beyond

Drawn And Quartered

Cryptborn

Ataraxy

Good luck...

first of all, thank you for a reply!

Vorum - Good stuff, I like. production lacking just a little bit. But still, I enjoyed it.

Binah - I love how grooved out this is. I like it better than Vorum.

Necros Christos - first band ive at least heard of. riffs are simple compared to the two former bands... but catchy as hell. prob the most evil sounding so far. Yes, Im approving. As the list progresses, I like each band more.

Claws - I like the vocals, but something about the way the drums sound kind of put me off. Doesn't impress me as much. a little too doomy in parts. not terrible, but just OK.

Drowned - I dunno, the song just kind of came and went without leaving me with much of an impression

Mortem - Another one I know! woo! hah, anyways. vocals, production, musicianship are spot on. Although guitar leads somewhat remind me of Slayer, forgivable. Great track. Im sold.

Embrace of Thorns - The album cover is fucking sick! But, I couldnt really get into this one. Kind of like Drowned, it came.. and it went.

Beyond - Relentless! I love the tone of the bass. Murky! I guess the only part I dont enjoy are the barked, fast paced vocals. But I can look past that because the music is great. A keeper.

Drawn and Quartered - Yes! Excellent. thank you, thank you, thank you! Leads scattered everywhere, heavy as fuck riffs. And the last minute of the track is the icing.

Cryptborn - Not bad, but didnt catch my eye. the buzzsaw guitar tone is always hit or miss with me. the outro to the song was nice though.

Ataraxy - Wow, what a song. Fucking Killer! the best for last?

Thank you again, especially for linking the bands. Drawn and Quartered, Necros Christos, Mortem, and Ataraxy. You didnt disappoint!

I'm glad to see other people who appreciate the lead guitar work of Kelley Kuciemba. He is quite skilled, his style is unique, and his playing is definitely more emotionally and atmospherically evocative than the vast majority of death metal lead work.

Requesting some SLAM-Y, THRASH-Y, death metal that riffs hard, if there is any out there that is. A better picture would be basically deathrash that i enjoy (Ghoul, Pestilence, old Death, Solstice) + ( slam-y, heavy parts) = ?

Visceral Throne - their first album is death/thrash and their latest is light years better, though you may prefer their first offering entitled "Before The Nothing (2010). For their second album hey crafted a brutal death style that riffs hard, called: Omnipotent Asperity (2012).

Aren't you actually talking about Deadly Remains? Visceral Throne only has 1 full-length out.

Here are links to the second album:

Yes. Thanks. I was a bit tired after the Dying Fetus show last night and still seem to mix those albums up sometimes. Both are orange-themed covers. Deadly Remains is the band I meant.

However, Visceral Throne's 'Omnipotent Asperity' is pretty awesome, too. :)

I already know of Deadly Remains. I listened to their first album and it was to fillerish and not straightforward enough like thrash should be. There last album was just pure slam which i dont want cause it bores me. Same for Visceral Throne. Again im looking for deathrash with heavy chuggy riffs maybe even some grind.

I don't understand the second criteria you mentioned. Harsh grunted vocals are a key staple of death metal and while many bands do incorporate clean vocals, a band that is entirely clean vocals would really be pushing the definition of "death metal" to other places.

Or when you say "clean vocals" do you mean vocals that are actually intelligible? Like, they don't sound like GRRRR URRRGGG HRRR GHHRRR all the time, and sound like actual words while still being harshly growled.

Septic Flesh is the best symphonic death metal band I've ever seen, and one of the best metal bands period. They are heavy as fuck, and the album "The Great Mass" has much more dynamic songwriting than their other work. Check out "Five Pointed Star" and "A Great Mass of Death". Lots of orchestral and symphonic emphasis too, and the vocals are "clean" in the sense that you can understand what they say 80% of the time.

- Eternal Tears of Sorrow are another great SDM band, though not as heavy as Septic Flesh. The vocals are also easily understandable, no lyric sheet required.

If your looking for symphonic metal music with more clean vocals and growls taking a backseat, you'd be better off looking at symphonic metal like Epica (listen to the song "Deconstruct" by them). However, if you want symphonic metal with growls as the foreground and clean vocals as the backsupport, Septic Flesh is the way to go.

Looking for bands like Demonoid, death metal with virtuoso soloing. Not really like the Brutality style though.

Thank you but that one's a little obvious, if you don't mind me saying. I admire most of Ralph Santolla's body of work anyway, and for me the soloing is the best thing about Stench Of Redemption anyway.

Is that a good or a bad thing?

Do you know Disaffected's Vast? It's very quirky and old school sounding, maybe it could be at least partially what you're after.

Not a bad thing. By the way, Crypt Of Kerberos wasn't really what I was looking for.

Disaffected sounds much better, thanks!

If you liked Vast then check Sacred Sin's Eye M God from the same year, and with the same vocalist. The albums bear some resemblances here and there, although Sacred Sin is a bit thrashier altogether. You might enjoy it. ;)

Drawn and Quartered is really scratching an itch (with a battering ram). Clattering drums, cacophonous and thundering but focused, good "traditional" guitar tone and reliable structure. Dude .. shit is brought hard. Anything like this would be welcome.

A note, though, I'm not into vocals more nasal and ngrrr ngrrrr than this. I'm into this rumbling, thick gutteral -- never the buggered pig.

Thanks. Recognized, but not exactly familiar. I actually got to see them play once, when I went to behold Grave Miasma, but DC's sound was so bad I couldn't make it out worth shit. Kind of a waste, if you ask me. The selections I've attempted from them haven't really done much for me. I guess I just found them capable without being energetic in the way I'm wired for. Something about their sound .. I'll see if I can formulate a better comparison later.

edit: Holy fuck .. Innumerable Forms. Reminds me a little of Helvetron's production, but more of the driving I'm looking for. Strong.

Hi guys, this year I haven't been that updated with new death metal records, I've only heard a few like: Carcass, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Immolation, Gorguts and Ulcerate. (Gorgust and Ulcerate being my favorites, the other being ok, good, but nothing really stellar to me)

So, I'm asking for new releases that you have enjoyed this year, every form of death metal is cool, just name some of the records that have growed on you, and I'll give them a listen n_n

Thank you.

Welcome.

Here's another couple. Backyard Mortuary. The name sucks but the tunes are still cool, probably a bit off base though...

Centvrian from the Netherlands are some pretty intense stuff.

An old favourite of mine from Australia - Psychrist.

Bout all I got right now :(
