I love the vocals on here but it does get monotonous. A little variation would have taken this very close to perfection

Very good album, the artist who did the cover art is doing the cover for my project!

NP: Cult of Fire - मृत्युकावीभत्सनृत्य

A very strong album, it's dissonant, ethnic and with some post black elements.

Mortiis - The Stargate

This album's second half is where it's at. Quite an extraordinary record.

Thou Art Lord - Das Messer

Listened to "Regal Pulse of Lucifer" on my car before, now giving it a proper listen at home. Sounds like a thrashier, faster, early era Rotting Christ. Which is, of course, a very good thing.

Chastain - Fortune Teller

A friend in facebook posted a link of this song. I liked the cover art, so I figured 'why the hell not?'. And let me tell you, the song really packs a punch! Amazing Heavy/Power Metal song with powerful female vocals, crisp and melodious guitar riffs, and thundering bass and drums. Highly recommend it!

Gernotshagen - Widars Klagesturm, from Märe Aus Wälderen Hallen

This album is going quite perfectly with the cold, Autumn rain going on right outside my window this morning.

Edguy - Wake Up Dreaming Black

One of their most underrated songs - killer riffing, some great drum bits and a driving, hard rock chorus.

Dub Buk - Лють нашої вiтчизни

These vocals just slay (in lack of a less American way to put it). There's plenty of cheap keyboards and near schizophrenic variety going on, but it still avoids being cheesy. It's like these guys accidentally recorded a great black metal album. Only their other efforts prove that they're not a one-hit wonder. Probably one of the most underappreciated black metal bands out there right now.

Captain Beefheart - Ice Cream For Crow

First listen, I believe. Think I've only heard the title track a few times. Such a weird band.

If you're a big Burzum fan, you'll love this hour long interview with Varg and his wife about the recent controversy.

Clan of Xymox - A Day (Where are You)

I really like this album. I'm going to put on SLK's Kamikaze Pilots demo, though. :)

Cradle of Filth - Shat Out of Hell

This is a good opener (after the intro track). Fast, high energy, and not too long.

Funeral Circle - S/T

I think the guitars (especially the leads) could be brought closer to the front of the mix, and I'm not the biggest fan of the vocals but overall happy to hear this finally come to fruition and I think it's an improvement from their EP. More similar to their demos but with more variance and a different atmosphere.

Univers Zero - Présage

Really getting into this song, with all the classical instrumentation more associated with them and RIO and general, but really hard and driving rhythms. Almost spy movie prog or something, love it.

Great find. That's my least favorite song from the album, but it's still excellent. Very distinctive and incomparable album.

god this song is so good. It's like my once a year drinking bing and I'm like 6 in within 30mins and put on some Nach because it really does sound better at least the last two albums with I guess something in your system be it just plain alcohol.

Hour of Penance worship done right. Brutal and unrelenting, and I'd love to hear some more in the near future.

The vocals took some getting used to but I appreciate them now. I find some of the songs have too similar riffs but overall I'm satisfied with this release. I got one of the t-shirts as well and it's a quality print. Never heard their demos or EP before, though, I'll have to get around to that.

Manilla Road - Witches Brew

Went to the ren faire today and I guess it got me in the mood for some epic heavy metal.

Terminate: Acending to Red Heavens

Great album, I just don't remember them on the ep being so buzzsaw using the HM2. Not that I'm really complaining sounds great.

Still my favorite song off Altars.

Virgin Steele - Angel of Death

Mystic and emotional - that final chorus is pretty overpowering in a sense. Still I wonder what this could have sounded like if it had a proper production, more audible guitars and real drums.

Sinister Realm - The Tower is Burning

Pure, unadulterated Candlemass worship. I love it.

Bloden-Wedd - 7th Gate

Great power metal. Speedy like Helloween or Gamma Ray but the vocals have a very archaic, epic 80s quality to em...always a favorite album.

Altar of Plagues - Mammal

It's been a long time since I listened to this band, and this re-visit is reminding me why. The first track is pretty strong and the second, though similar in structure and approach, just isn't nearly as good as it's built upon a minimalist foundation that's just not as interesting. By the time the 8+ minute filler track rolls around, disappointment really starts to sink in. This is all prep for the latest album, which I haven't heard yet but have sort of a morbid curiosity about.

Atlantean Kodex - Sol Invictus, off The White Goddess

Not crazy about this, but it's certainly better than the debut. I dig the singer's John Archness. Could use meatier, clearer guitars though.

The Ruins of Beverast- Spires, the Wailing City

I like the new album, but this is definitely the worst song it has to offer, and probably the worst song Meilenwald has written. It takes almost four minutes to get off the ground, plods along (this is coming from someone who likes funeral doom), does a quick little tribal dance number, and ends. Kind of shocking, really.
