Sacramentum - Far Away From The Sun
A classic Necrolord piece and it fits the music just perfectly.

Both Cormorant albums have amazing artworks, the complete designs are mesmerizing.

Mastodon has some amazing album covers, with the exception of their last albums, all of their material is gorgeous.

I love the vibe of Ahab's The Giant. Perfect cover for a perfect album.

Holy Moses' Finished with the Dogs is one of the most bad ass and thrashy album covers ever, so great, musically and visually.

I love most Ulver's artwork, especially the first three. Perdition City has a certain sci-fi/noire vibe to it that I really love.

Thanatos - Realm of Ecstacy and Emerging From the Netherworlds.

I'm at a library, so I cant post pics on here. But when these arrived last week, I couldn't get over the great use of color that these had. Especially RoE. Some of the times during my listening sessions (by the way, get 'em if you haven't) my eyes will sometimes get distracted by the awesome skull from EFtN or those amusing, but somewhat creepy, faces from RoE. It took me a few glances to notice the people at the bottom.

Eric Philippe, you are a fucking genius!

Bestial Warlusts "Vengeance War Till Death" is the mother of all album covers.

+1 - I love the artwork and (of course) the music of "Perdition City" a lot.

Besides many classics from Ken Kelly, Derek Riggs and Ep Repka, other faves of mine are these Bal Sagoth covers which portray their
pulp drenched scifi fantasy epicness just perfectly (yes, even and esp. (!) the one for "Battle Magic")

Spoiler: show

Image

Also "In Luft Geritzt" by Dornenreich is some kind of perfect imo. Very simple approach but coming along very powerful (in terms of "imagery")

Spoiler: show
Image

Though I'm not a fan of their music (besides "Visor Om Slutet"), Finntroll's album cover for "Nifelvind" is just great. Both in style and colour choice.

Spoiler: show

I also like covers bands/musicians have taken from images of Arthur Rackham (e.g. Graveland), John Bauer (e.g. Mortiis), Frank Frazetta and Theodor Kittelsen (e.g. Burzum)
However I somehow don't see them really as album covers but more as the pieces of art / paintings which they originally were and as such for me not quite fitting here...

Some non-metal album covers I absolutely like/love are:

all the stuff Mark Wilkinson did for early Marillion and Fish, so detailed and great:

Fuck yeah, forgot about that one... brutal cover!!... has always been one of my faves (might be my favourite actual album "artwork" i think) ...Blood and Valour kicks ass too...

I like Impiety's Dominator cover too, has much of that same fuck you feel to it...

Sometimes I like the amateurish "quiet kid's high school notebook" approach, such as Spiculum Iratus' Summa Anti-theologica or Begrime Exemious' Visions of the Scourge. Musically, the latter is vastly superior to the former, but SI does have a kind of US West Coast BM charm. The BE on the other hand is a demonic slaughterhouse of epic proportions and I don't even know what genre it is. Black, death, thrash, doom, but somehow more vicious than any of them on their own.

When I first saw Slagmaur's Domfeldt art, I was pretty sure I'd have no choice but to love the music. Happily it was even better than expected: "hateful carnival music played by an orchestra of mannequins" is pretty much how I'd describe it. You can just smell the mustiness in this photo.

One of Necrolord's more underrated/overlooked pieces. The heavy blue mixed with that particular concept makes for one desolate and foreboding as hell art.

Yeah, Blood and Valour is awesome too, hadn't seen the Impiety one before, there is a definite similarity there!

Holocaust - Primal
The power, atmosphere and pure honesty in this album is just incredible. And while the cover is simple, it is very memorable and fits the music especially well. Also it's kinda ironic that my budgie died while I listened to the album...

possibly to some of you this is just another "nature" cover, but the choice of colors is great and the overall atmosphere
really underlines the album's title as well as the music...

Another one that deserves a shout is In Your Honour from Black Majesty. They seem to have similar cover art for all their albums, but this one in particular is just a beautiful piece of work.

I have that Mystic Circle album - in fact, that's one of the first ever black metal albums I got, and it's because of the neat coloration scheme they have going on.

Damn, every time i see those Marillion covers i get a huge smile in my face... They should be my favorite band ever (specially with Fish... he was the man). Mark Wilkinson also did the cover for Iron Maiden's "Live At Donington", one of my favorites Eddies ever drawn.

Also, every cover that Daniel "Selfdesecrator" Corcuera has done. That guy has some genuine talent: http://www.metal-archives.com/artists/D ... ator/46709

This may be way too in depth but I feel I must: Cait Sith wasn't ridden by anybody, albeit it was a cat (?) riding a moogle but it was controlled by a double agent working for Shinra.

It's ironic that the Mexican Disgorge has one of the worst album covers I've ever seen (which I posted in the 'worst album cover' thread prior to this) but in this one, I post an album cover from the American Disgorge which is probably one of the sickest brutal death covers ever.
