So I've been humming and whistling this tune for a couple months now and for the life of me I couldn't figure out how or where I picked it up only that is was oddly familiar so I eventually put it out of my mind and kept on humming. Then today like a bolt of lightening it hit me - it's the song that plays in the background of the dwarf miner's secret mythril forge in Shinning Force II. And that ends a completely pointless and useless excerpt into my day.

Shining Force and Shining Force II are a couple of the best RPG's ever!!

How do you guys feel about people throwing horns in musical settings outside of metal? I don't mind it in hard rock, and various near metal or heavily metal influenced genres (stoner, occult rock, certain types of punk). But, I'm very upset to see it used in say, an electronica setting, or the like.

It's really funny you said that Doomed because just a few days ago I saw a video or a picture, something to do with a big name in pop culture (though for the life of me I can't recall who the subject was), and there was a person in the front row throwing up the horns. And honestly it annoyed me way more than it should have, I'm not rwally one to be all 'man that's just for metal' or kvtly about anything but it annoyed the shit out of me for sure. Because frankly the horns are metal damnit and that's all there is to it.

It is an atrocity which is not to go without consequences. The usual punishment is to restrain them, force them to listen to Fallen Angel of Doom at high volumes for 12 hours straight and then ask them if they still feel like "throwing the horns".

If this sort of thing bothers you, what about metalheads throwing horns at non-metal events? Have they earned the right to do so, or do they need to resit their exams on metal etiquette?

I thought that the protocol for non-metalheads throwing the horns involved chopping their hands off

But in all seriousness; yeah guys, getting upset over that is kind of ridiculous.

On a completely unrelated note, I just opened my email after months of not using it, and it's riddled with hundreds of spam messages from a dating site. Yeah.

Posting this because I'm listening to it now and can't really think of a better venue to share it.
Funeral's "In Fields of Pestilent Grief" is a fucking awesome album.
The guitar tone and some of the riffs are just so fucking heavy. In juxtaposition to entirely female vocals of a semi-operatic nature, which I can see being somewhat of a hurdle to many people's enjoyment, but it's all beautifully composed. The kind of melodies that can stay with you forever.

I groan when I see people throwing the horns at non-metal shows, just like I groan when I see people trying to skank or whirlwind dance at metal shows.

It's the same thing when people try to mosh at Ska shows. It may be appropriate for Voodoo Glow Skulls or Leftover Crack or something but not at the fucking Slackers :nono:

Yeah...call me crazy but I can tell if the person has any idea what they're doing based on how they display the horns (for example, thumb out is a no-no)

I only heard the title track, but I thought the fast, blasty part in it was cool and the rest was just pointless. How blasty is the rest of the album?

Also, this is for the half-dozen or so people on this board who'll get this... I present to you my creation from two weeks ago, Yellow and on the Wheat:

As for the "horns on non-metal shows" thing, I don't know, that depends. If the music is something heavy/energetic, I don't see the problem, it makes some sense. But sometimes I get the feeling it's kinda out of place, it doesn't make me feel "OMG HERETIC BASH HIS FACE WITH A MANOWAR ALBUM", but just kinda like  . Although it's not like I see it often, pretty much the only examples I could come up with were bands which do have something to do with metal, e.g. Porcupine Tree.

Man, that reminds me, when I was 14 and they were pretty much my favourite band I was going to go see them. I go to the show and it's cancelled, there's a notice on the door to go to this record shop get your money back and see the opening acts for $5. It was a little basement show, really violent moshpits, and the Rebel Spell were really good. So later I talk to the head of Fat Wreck Canada and it turns out they all went their separate ways trying to sneak into the country, going through Indian reserves and what not. It turns out the one guy who got caught ratted everyone else out.

So out of the last 15 days or so I've only gone to bed sober twice. Perhaps it's time to take a break after tonight.

The rape thread made me want to dig this quote out. I don't think I should post it there because they're trying to have serious discussion, but I'll post it here:

I was just reading through that thread while listening to "Get Lucky" by Daft Punk and the inappropriateness of it didn't even hit me until the song was almost over.

Well yeah, but a memorable one.. His few other thousand posts of bland, overbearing-teenager stuff lost to the sands of time, only the "quality" remaining. Pbsisbad will be in our hearts long after the solid, unremarkable posters are forgotten.

My sig quotes are subject to unnatural selection. The weaker of the two gets dumped when a superior one comes along. The intervals get longer and longer until I find the ultimate royal couple of über-quotes. Then, finally, the breeding can begin.
