Bah! Only fools and Christians use that corruption of the word. Woden's day!

No. Halloween is not really celebrated in this heathen colony.

It's not celebrated here either, but I celebrate it on my own because fuck Halloween is awesome. The only places where it's usually celebrated are English institutes, and I'll be helping to organize this year's Halloween events and activities at the one I attend. As for a costume..... Well, I think that I'll be going as a plague doctor. Halloween needs more of those.

This might be nitpicking and semantics, but I wish people would learn the difference between "underrated" and "unknown". It's not the same.

I mean, saying "Vomit Sodomy is SO unknown" is more true than "Vomit Sodomy is SO underrated", if the band can't be found on the net, doesn't distribute its works except through the underground, and keeps a very low profile. Something cannot be underrated if it's unknown, because you can't rate something you're not familiar with. Duh?

This goes for about, oh, 97.5% of the bands anyone ever calls underrated on the net. A deathgrind band from Jakarta that has distributed 31 out of the 66 copies of a CD-r demo and played three gigs with a total cumulative attendance of around 17 people is not underrated, it's just obscure and unknown, no matter how good the guys are in their trade.

Now, kids, see here: MacMoney uses the term correctly in his usual context. He means that the band's name is known among the sheep, but they do not appreiate the music. Of course, if we talk about the minority that actually understands music, Blind Illusion is very highly rated.

And then there's Merkstave who are an outlier according to your logic; they are both under-rated and unknown at the same time.

They are the most kvlt ov Black Metal bands. Aside from that one band who doesn't have a name.

I second this. And third. And fourth. People who cry that US thrash was all-same stuff should go and listen to Blind Illusion's first album.

Also that album shows that you can have a really crappy production (which it has but that is part of the charm too) and still come out on top.

Christian Death's Only Theatre of Pain - good googly moogly what an atmospheric and draining album. The perfect blend of punk attitude and dreary romanticism. Just really cool to listen to actual gothic rock. Great stuff.

I totally agree. Great album, bone-chilling atmosphere and those vocals. Technically it's death rock but it does not really matter because there was so much genre overlap in that kind of music that labels were kind of useless. If you liked that and do would like a more punk-based, horror-inspired stuff check out T.S.O.L. on their album "Dance With Me". Awesome gothic/death punk.

Wow! I really liked that track - powerful and energetic and the melody does not spoil that. Awesome! I will have to look into this band.

Great indeed, that's my favorite album of that style. Perhaps my favorite aspect of it is the production, how it has so much space and creates an atmosphere that fits it perfectly, can be filled by just the drums alone at the beginning, the drums and bass, everyone together, when the guitar is making noises... it has such a perfect feeling that seems like we'll never hear it again with the somewhat thin sounds and a lot of space in the mix. Seems like gothic rock today tends to have a brickwalled, forced atmosphere as well as drum machines most of the time, not the dreary, thin production of the past that really fit it perfectly.

Interesting read. Seems like the ward you stayed was suckier than the usual I hear of. Did you brought your own music or you could only listen to cds that were already there?

Holy ballsacks - Deafheaven's Mogwai cover of "Punk Rock/Cody" on their split is crushing.

My favourite part is the lead guitar tone. It reminds me of StSanders video on Yngwie Malmsteen.

Yup. That song is from a digital full length. It may be laughably atrocious, but it should be in the Archives.

I definetly can feel the rage in his voice.

The new Oranssi Pazuzu track is the greatest thing I've heard this year. The new album might turn out to be their best one yet if this is any indication.

Have you listened to the vocalist's previous band? Kuolleen Intiaanit it was spelled, I think. Not as good as OP, obviously, but they're highly listenable as well. Bit goofy though. And not metal.

Yeah, I have listened to a couple of Kuolleet intiaanit songs. They were alright. A little bit simplistic and shallow though, I guess OP spoiled me.

Since the thread about it got locked before I could type it out, I'll say this about Tobias Sidegard from Necrophobic going in the can for beating his family.

Don't wish harm on him. Firstly, it makes you look like a bloodthirsty asshole, and there are enough of those in the world already. Secondly, it brings you down to the level of a person like him, wanting to resort to violence to punish somebody.

I can certainly agree with that. The revenge mentality so many people have against people like him sucks almost as much as the dude himself.

When people say that, they don't care about being "brought down to his level", they just want to see a scumbag getting fucked up. Evil done on evil is acceptable, or something.
I don't wish any particular harm to him but I also I wouldn't feel any sympathy if harm did come.

I don't think it's as much "I want to see him get beaten up in prison" as it is "I wouldn't especially care if he got beaten up in prison."

EDIT

If in fact it turns out he's guilty. It would not be the first time that someone got framed for domestic abuse. Let's just wait this one out and see what the court says in two weeks.

For digital releases: "Only finished, professional albums." - We invoke that rule in these cases. We'll accept well produced, longer demos, but reject "full-length albums" that are unmixed bedroom black metal or complete shit like this.
