That's one of my favorite Sepultura songs! Arise in general is a great listen.

Medicine - The Buried Life

Dreampopgaze.

I'm not sure how to describe this. It's a strange blend of Tribal Ambient, Dub and Psybient. interesting stuff.

First time in Robin Storeyland, iAm? ;) Stick with his early '90s catalogue and you're golden...

The term "psybient" fills me with impotent ire.

NP: Falkenbach - Laeknishendr demo

A solid, early slab from Falkenbach, pretty rich despite its painfully "demo" recording quality, which is almost laughable at times. Cool and pretty unique stuff, in any case, tainted mostly only by the plodding pacing of "Blond" and the retarded, spastic drums in "Infernum."

Any amount of ignoring Dave Mustaine is right by me. ;)

Solstice - The New Dark Age II / Legion XIII

Music fit for kings - a huge, medieval sweep. I love this already.

Pasadena Napalm Division - 100 Beers With a Zombie
Humorous and energetic. The thrashy parts are good when Kurt Brecht puts in the effort, but the punky parts are really bad.

Also:

Ten - Red
I totally love the Celtic rebellion thing, and the acoustic part is pretty cool. Not to mention the solos that never stop shredding for the entire song. Too bad the rest of their music is boring 80's worship.

Really sickly guitar tone

Well, yeah, he's an ass, but he was a very talented ass back in the day. Not to mention that he wasn't as fucking crazy.

You know, I listened to Solstice, and while I really liked what I heard, I just couldn't get over how inappropriate their vocalist is for the kind of doom they play. Dude sounds like a NWOBHM singer, and while good, he just isn't as commanding as the rest of the music.

Seasons of the Wolf - Wings of Doom, off Once in a Blue Moon

Fucking badass stuff. Like a mix of King Diamond, Metal Church, and Black Sabbath.

Well, Solstice is mixing epic doom with heavy metal AND they're from England, so having some ties with NWOBHM is pretty appropriate in my opinion and even encouraged! Hell, a mix of doom, NWOBHM and prog would be/is totally INSANE!

I met plenty of cool people at Wings of Metal this week end including the singer and guitarist of this Ontarian band, influenced by Solstice. Cool stuff.

Also guys, check out Magic Circle, they released one of the best albums of 2013. They were phenomenal live.

NP: Manifesting - Descension Through the Seven Forbidden Seals. Cool occult death metal.

I'd prefer a deep bassy tone like the Briton Rites dude for Solstice, but the guy they have works really well too, and his thin, wavery voice is starting to grow on me - it sounds very English. The music and songs are too good to deny either way, trust me.

I actually like their singer. It's just that I don't think his voice is a good fit for Solstice's music! :-P Although New Dark Age merits a few more listens. Probably later, once I'm done with Once in a Blue Moon.....

Shining - Vilseledda Barnasjalars Hemvist; from VI: Klagopsalmer

This is fantastic. Awesome riffs. Every time I listen to Shining, I feel like I should listen to them more, but then don't get around to it.

I should listen to them some more...

Hey, Grief, put a sentence or something with what you're listening to. I like some of the stuff you post so to hear more of your thoughts would be awesome.

Easily one of the heaviest breakdowns I've heard. Great old school thrash riffage that just breaks out of tons of interwoven tremolo leads. Basically the climax of an hour long ritual.

Great album. Before its release, I was a little apprehensive about its length, but those fears were not founded because it's awesome. :)

Spektr - Cypher

So I'm just about finished with my first listen and I might now have to rearrange whatever top 5 I had for 2013, because this album is an absolute beast. Incredible black metal fused with ambient and lighter touches throughout, and they managed to do it without vocals, too - a first even for this band. After six years of silence, Spektr return at the top of their game again.

Click that, and you'll know what I mean. After a minute + 50 of build up, it unleashes with that blistering as fuck riff and the screams to back it up. Utterly relentless!!!!

Goddamn that's good one, close to my favourite track of theirs ever. Brendan Perry's vocals alone on that are beautiful and transcendental. Spine shiveringly untouchable.

Spearhead - Stormbearer

Strange mix of Bolt Thrower-esque riffs, leads and what have you, coupled with Under A Funeral Moon vocals. Only a half-dozen listens in on this album, but it does strike me as rather ill-fitting. More attention required.

Parasite Inc. - Back for War

The first good thrashy gothenburg melodeath album I have heard in a long time. Not original, not threading new grounds, just very solid and catchy stuff.

Yes , Transcendental, a transcendental experience, what describes the DCD atmosphere perfectly . and finally yesterday i paid a little more attention to the other tracks : Persephone , Cantara, Windfall, Dawn of the Iocnoclast ... man, i really like this album .

The masterful handling of the dynamics are really what make that album. In a different context, the riffs might just be 'meh', but the combination of the edgy production and the fact that that riff comes out of fucking nowhere really give it the heaviness. So cool from a music theory perspective too!

Spektr - Cypher

Yep, again. Listened to this a few times since I got it and I can't get enough. It's probably on par with their previous works, which are all incredible. Another big winner from this very unique black metal band.
