Ever notice that half-way through the solo, Quorthon just starts playing the notes to a funeral march?

Will have to check that out.

Push from (1985) The Cure - The Head On The Door (2006 Deluxe Edition) CD1 (The Original Album).
AMAZING band!

Mad Architect "Journey to Madness"

Just got this CD in the mail today - seems promising so far.

Manowar - Black Arrows

Fucking bass solos thrown in the middle of albums, ruining the flow of the album. So irritating.

Sepultura - Morbid Visions/Bestial Devastation

It pisses me off how the band themselves and all their post-90s fans disown this record: the best stuff they've ever put out.

Even worse, choosing the weakest/least memorable track on here ("Troops of Doom") as the only one still played in sets nowadays..... :(

Damn, that wicked guitar tone on the Bestial Devastation section far predates that "chainsaw guitar" sound of Swedish death metal!!!

Opeth - Reverie/Harlequin Forest

This song is tied with Ghost of Perdition as the second best song on Ghost Reveries. The Grand Conjuration is the best song on the album for sure.

A lot of negativity surrounded this release, but I still find it enjoyable and very fitting for my current "Woe is me" mood.

Really? As far as I could tell, everyone (me included) really seemed to like it. I barely remember anyone speaking ill of it.

Theocracy - I Am

Power/prog metal done right, with some truly intense moments all throughout.

"Cold Of Ages" -
Ash Borer

Finally giving this a listen, it has a tad more melody than Bloodlands and their self titled but that isn't a bad thing, it's like if Agalloch decided to play Funeral Doom. Very excited that they're playing at Stella Natura.

Madlax OST - Madlax

Yuki Kajiura is a goddamn genius. Also, for many of the shows she does music for, she's the only highlight. :<

Recently listened to this band for the first time and was impressed, very good, a shame I had written them off earlier as just another dull cascadian bm

np: Sad Legend - s/t
Nice ghostly atmosphere, and good use of melodies on black metal without sounding saccharine.

Sonata Arctica - 8th Commandment

The more I listen to Ecliptica, the more it displaces Reckoning Night as my favorite album of theirs.

"Ecliptica" was the only album of theirs I could ever get into for whatever reason.

NP: Alhambra "Siegfried"

Female-fronted Japanese neo-classical power metal. Side-project of Galneryus' keyboardist.

Seasons of the Wolf - Ghost Woman

I'm enamored with this. Metal fit for the gods!

I can't even imagine what it's going to be like seeing them live, and in the middle of an Alpine forest! I'll have to make sure to take lot's of pictures for the nature thread.

Runemagick - Invocation of Magick

I've been on a little bit of a Runemagick spree lately, listening to a bunch of their albums. Great death/doom, and this one is no exception, with long songs and killer riffs, backed up by sweet drumming. I wish they would make some more albums because I really like what they're doing, but it appears it may be all over for them.

This is such a great album. Listening to it at night with the lights out is a great experience.

Just listened: Marduk - Nightwing

NP: Marduk - Heaven Shall Burn...
This one is way better than Nightwing. Nightwing just seems to be a tad boring compared to their other stuff. The bass tone is righteous though.

Overkill - Ironbound

One of the best on the allbum. I like it better than the opener, although having the first 2 tracks total to 15 minutes is a bold move.

Impaled Nazarene - Post Eclipse Era

Highlight of the album. Even though I love every single second of Nihil (my favorite album of all time) this song is just slightly above the rest.

Lithotome - Comavoid

Ooooh yes, more dark, dissonant, pulverising death metal that comes complete with some Lost Highway quotes. Buying this right now.

Fleshgod Apocalypse - Labyrinth

This is...nowhere near as bad as I've been hearing. It won't top the 2013 list for me, but it's still quite nice. Of course, I only got it today so it needs further listens, but I like this. :) I guess it's not as symphonic as Agony, in that it's in-your-face all the time, but there's still a hundred things going on here. I suppose some people don't like that, but it works for me.

Bathory - Blood on Ice.

Not nearly as good as anything from Hammerheart, but it was Blood on Ice (the album) that got me into Viking Bathory back in 1998. I listened to Blood on Ice until I burned a hole through the CD. 15 years have passed and I keep coming back to this album!

Hammerhead - Viertel Vor Neun

German HC punk, much like Black Flag but heavier.

Slayer - Die By the Sword

Can you believe it? Just got this yesterday. Never heard this before. I'm not so hot on Hell Awaits-Reign in Blood era Slayer. South through Seasons is great though. But this is ultimate metal. I think it's the best I've heard from them. Next to get: Haunting the Chapel.

Virgin Steele - Mind, Body, Spirit

Still trying to get into these guys. Don't get me wrong, I like them, but I've yet to find anything absolutely worshipful about them, as so many people here do. So far 'The Marriage of Heaven and Hell, Part 1' is my favorite album I've heard. (I have that one, 'The Marriage of Heaven and Hell, Part 2', 'Invictus', and 'The Black Light Bacchanalia'. I could have sworn I ordered 'The House of Atreus, Part 1' a long time ago, but it never arrived.) David DeFeis has a good voice, but he sounds like he's restraining himself a lot on later albums - literally, like he's singing quietly. It kills a lot of the energy the music would otherwise have.

Lykathea Aflame- Bringer of Elvenefris Flame.

Except for the vocals, the arrangement is pure Rush. Just sped up. Actually the whole album reminds me of Rush. One of the best metal albums ever.
